Yes. Nekos. ("Catgirls" to you Yanks. Neko is the "proper" term for them.)
Reason? I guess since I have a personality that is decidedly feline.
Neko is the Japanese term for them... and...
some might say that it's a bit of a weeaboo (wapanese) term.
Catgirl is not a "Yank" term, it's simply a Western term that conveys the meaning of the term more clearly to English-speakers.
Yes. And Neko is indeed the Japanese term. And from a combination of them most likely inventing what Westerners call the "Catgirl" in popular culture, and it sounding more "professional" than Catgirl, I said it was proper. But there was a reason it was in quotes: No one can really say what you should call them. Especially since they don't exist, outside of fetish-shop frequenters with heavy willing suspension of disbelief. (I kid. Well, mostly...)
As far as saying it was what Yanks would call it, it was just a generalization. Nekos are
very popular in America, depending on the circles we're talking about.
I would know. I
am American. I just like to act like a pompous Brit. (On the interweb, of course. I act like that in real life, people would think I'm "gay", more likely than not.) Why? Hell if I bloody know. Just for fun, probably. Like everything else I do. Now sod off, I'm going to go make some tea. And I'm not even kidding. The tea I make is freakin' awesome. It's got honey and lemon in it. Quite good.
Although I admit that, again, you can call them whatever you want. It's like tomayto tomahto, but with different spellings included. Although, yes, the latter (Neko, of course.) will only be readily recognized in
some Western circles. (Like this one, for instance!) Catgirl is less...uh...can't think of anything better to put here, again. So I'll just say "professional" again. What do I mean by this? Hell if I know. Just seems more proper, somehow. ...Maybe that's what you meant by "weeaboo"...
Addendum: Okay, I stepped on my own foot there. Somewhat. Now that I remembered that neko pretty much just means cat, I remembered something. They're called Neko
mimis. Cat ears. And then remembered the reason for that above awkwardness: I thought that catears made more sense than catgirl. Mostly because the usual Western catgirl is pretty much just a woman with cat ears and tail.
Because woman aren't the only nekos out there, cat
ears doesn't have a sex attributed to it. Plus the "real" ones have the whole shebang. Claws, elongated K-9s, matching hair color all around (Actual hair, ear fur, tail fur.), and cat's eyes. Not particular to the usual catgirl. There, now I sound less odd. Well, probably.
