do you have faith in humanity still?

I suppose I must have some, if I didn't have any faith in humanity I'd probably just off myself and get it over with. That said, what faith I do have in humanity has been small ever since I heard about the Greek Olympics in my world history class all those years ago. The idea that people could have a conflict so great that they would go to war and kill each other, then they could consciously stop fighting to go play games for the Gods, and then when it was all over they could go right back to killing each other... that just says something so depressing about the human species. We have the power to NOT kill each other, but we choose not to use it. It's hard to have a lot of faith in humanity after realizing that.

Hmmm ... if I look back on the past two thousand years, and look at the cultural, scientific and moral/ethical/social progress we've made since the times of slavery, colonialism, feudalism, the Crusades, the Reign of Terror during the French Revolution, etc., etc., all I can say is that we were never quite the paragon of high ideals and spotless virtue. So many horrible things have happened in the course of our history that the things happening today are mundane in comparison.

Yes, crap still happens. People are killed. People are tortured. People suffer.
But give us some credit. Europe as a continent hasn't experienced war in over fifty years. We've eradicated much disease and improved the quality of life in the Western world to an unbelievable degree (compare it to the state of things at the turn of the 20th century). We recognize human rights (not something to be taken lightly).

I think we've made progress. Yes, things aren't perfect (hell, in some places, things are absolute shit and will be for the foreseeable future, as unfortunate as that may be). But as history shows (I'd like to think anyway), we have the capacity for growth on a grand scale, influencing whole countries and their foundations. Change can happen, it simply needs the right catalyst.

After reading about Korean rice-wine with drowned baby mice floating at the bottom of the bottle, no. Delicacy my ass.

As said in the Galaxy Song from Monty Python's Meaning of Life: "Pray that there's intelligent life somewhere up in space 'Cause there's bugger all down here on Earth"

Yes. Every time I look at graveyard. If you can spend time and effort (and money, so important in out society) on someone who's no longer here I think people will put the same into living people.

I still have faith in humanity because even with all the complete idiots out there making it seem as though we're doomed, there's a (probably) equal number of people doing the exact opposite, just we don't notice them as much.[/quote]
I agree with this, i think the stupid people get in the news, cause we are like o wow look at that, and the smart people don't because what they do seems normal. So we just think everyone is stupid because its mostly what we see.

I do, but I'm not exactly sure how real the faith is.
Without that faith, I can't hope that all the knuckle-draggers at school will spiral down in life until not a single person cares about 'em.

I don't like faith. It's belief in something without a proof.
I'd say I believe in humanity. After all, we did some quite awesome things, haven't we?
Also we're a very successful species... sometimes too much so.

Yes, because I'm an optimist. I genuinely believe that things will be all right

Also, because of my huge-mugous ego. (If I'm still here, there's still at least one good human left, right?)

I believe that humanity as a whole is going to be doomed. But there are persons that are still worth believing in. But, I'm also a pessimist. I have a fairly negative outlook on life, then I don't get disappointed when I expect too much. But there are probably other reasons involved.

No. The few good people in the world are not enough to redeem us as a species. Why we haven't been wiped out yet is beyond me.

At the risk of sounding like a ZP fanboy, there's a lot of sense in Yahtzee's theory that it's safer to assume that everyone and everything is rubbish until they prove otherwise. That said, I'm nowhere near as pessimistic about everything as I used to be, in fact I'm about as optimistic as it's possible to be while retaining a healthy level of cynicism.

Im pritty much shure everything's going to be alright, not withought bumps over which we keep falling, no of course we cant avoid that. About one side having complete triumph over the other is absolute nonesence, there will always be balance and I know that even with one side having overweight at about 90%, the 10% have all the chances they need to rise up. Im shure weve all noticed that we work harder under pressure, and circumstances like insntiction drive us to accomplish the impossible. Saing all of that, there is and wil always be hope in humanity. Individuals, good and bad will show themselves and thats just being a course of history.
And by my history records, we do learn from our mistakes, too bad we forget about them, or just never knew what happened before, hence the expression "He, who doesent know his past, doesent have a future". Im sure some of you noticed we have books which is a good source of information :p + school which we so loved to ignore .
