There are many people who don't even consider themselves hardcore gamers that still love a good retro title, as long as it's fun. That's why Starcraft sold eleven million copies. World of Warcraft doesn't look great, but everyone plays it because just about any modern computer can run it, and it provides fun, not graphics (your mileage may vary, I know mine does, but the numbers don't lie.)
Final Fantasy 13 lowered my standards. (it sounds odd that a AAA-title in a well-recieved series of games that I personally love makes me think this way) I played that game and for the thirty hours I did, my thoughts were "Hey, I should play FF7 again. Man, FF9 was great. Tales of Vesperia was an awesome game. There's a lot of stuff in FF12 I haven't experienced. I should finally beat Legend of Dragoon one of these days."
