Depends on the friend. I'm not down with much physical contact generally. Some of my friends are too touchy and always hug me. Others are much more restrained, and I don't mind hugging my best friends, as we don't see each other that often, and we're more like siblings so it seems kinda natural. Yeah it's weird, but my boyfriend doesn't mind so it's all good.

Well I once stood out side somewhere with a free hugs sign but that was more as a joke. Even though I did give over a dozen hugs.

Big bear hugs.

Where I come from, the common greeting between friends is a kiss on the cheek, regardless of sex. People who can't take simple hugs because they think I have a thing for feeling them up are just insecure and are hung up on sex, which is somewhat of a trend here in the US (thankfully, most of my friends demonstrate against that). Don't let 'omgz-mah-personal-space-is-invaded' people bother you. Forgive them for their pretentiousness and their choice to give you shit because they can't be comfortable around friends or with physical contact. That's just pathetic. There's personal space, and then there's insecurity.

I sometimes have the obligatory 'man hug' between guy friends but nothing too long lasting.
I don't feel like I need to prove I'm straight by hugging a guy friend and neither do I think it's 'gay'. In some cultures many people kiss cheeks to greet each other, I see nothing 'gay' with that either.

Hugging's wonderful, I do it often. When drunk it's hard to stop me.
Hell yeah, when I'm drunk I love contact with my mates :D

i dont hug my friends... but thats because i just dont like hugs :p

we've worked out a system where if they want to give me a hug, they just pat me on the shoulder a few times, and vice versa
i only hug on special occasions and when they're really upset

Nope. Man hug maybe as in one arm round the back, quick pat maybe, but not in the same way I'd hug a chick.
I do that for family, girls, and guys when they ask me. I don't think I have ever asked someone for a hug, and it has always been women who ask for the hug. Of course, they always seem disappointed afterwards because they think I am not "doing it right."

I am just not touchy-feely of people, I practically jump when someone touchs me.

Personally, I've always preferred hugs to kisses.....there is so much more je ne sais quoi with a hug...it's the best feeling in the world when it's with someone you love....

In summation,I concur entirely with the composer of the above thread...there is nothing wrong with hugging your friends, be you male or female...in my opinion, I think there'd be something wrong with you if you couldn't hug your friends when you want to....

I'm all about the hugs....x x x

You are a female. You get all the benefits of being able to hug people. You can have "boobie fights" with girls, and rub them on guys as a unspoken message.

If we rub our codpeice on someone, we are considered weird.

Oh how sexist life is.

I give a hug where either I feel one is expected or one is deserved.

Most of my female friends expect one, so I go ahead. Some of my good guy friends expect one as well, so I similarly oblige. Thus, unless you've done something particularly kind or look very miserable, you're unlikely to get one.

Notable, however, is that I sort of have some personal space issues but only when it comes to people being close up in my face. Hugging somehow doesn't bother me.

You have babies. I am held to a inconsiderable standard and will die because of people pushing me to that standard at an early age.
