It all depends on how guys hug. If the hug lingers for a little too long or if it's a two armed hug...yeah, there's cause for concern sometimes if you are an affected party. Guys do the one arm quick hug, usually with a strong pat on the back to ensure masculinity. The other arm has to stay safely at the side.

Us men are a fickle bunch...

Everyone hugs everyone at my school, except for me. I'd never even seen other people hugging regularly until I left private school, so I'm not really comfortable with it. I used to yelp when I'd get hugged at first, but now I just go rag-doll. It's kind of become a running joke with my friends. XD

I did hug my best friend before she moved away, though. :'D

People of both genders hug me a lot. I keep telling them I'll cut their throats but it only seems to make them more enthusiastic oh well.
That was me about 2 and a half years ago.

Nowadays, I gave up on that shit since it's a lot easier to just hug them back, and it makes everyone more happy. (And I don't go to jail!)

Anyway, none of my male friends that are my good friends are very into that, and most of my female friends that are my good friends know me from a long time ago and don't think I like hugs because I used to preach stuff like I thought it was derogatory and that girls shouldn't be expected to make physical contact with me just because they're a girl, let alone hug someone who says "wheres mah hug *****," etc, etc, etc.

But there are people I don't hang out with much who loveeeeeeeeee hugs, so of course I hug them. I just don't feel personally inclined to hug every living thing that talks to me. Hell, I hug my computer more than most people.

I still don't see why a wave isn't sufficient, or a handshake, or a smile, it's just a greeting. Maybe if you haven't seen the person in a long time, I understand...I dunno. I just don't know why it became so popular. I know other guys who do it just so they can rub up on a girl's chest. I know girls who do it because they feel like they have to in order to stay friends with people. Cases like that bother me.

If it's simply "we're friends, yeah!" then I agree with it. But I'm more of a morbid person than most, and I'm usually not so perky unless, say, it's the first time I 5 starred knights of cydonia or something. (even then, it's not like I hugged paul, but we were happy)

I'm not much of a 'hugger', my close friends and family members normally ask me first (which I appreciate). But that's just my personal preferance, I don't think there is anything weird in friends hugging (male or female).

I hug my friends, and they hug me!

No seriously, if you have helped each other out and you can depend on the guy/gal for being your friend, then a hug for saying "Hi" is just fine...

Hugging is a lot like swearing in that the more you do it, the less weight the gesture carries.
true enough. But you don't want to hug too infrequently ever, or the gesture feels false on the rare occasion when you do break it out.

Sorry, no. I have.... issues with being touched. Hugging everyone can be a bad idea for that very reason.

However, if I know the hug is coming and if it is someone I am VERY VERY close to, hugs are fine.

(People, if you touch me and I tense up and shake, that means I am trying very hard not to beat you off of me, scream, and lock myself in an empty room. That does not mean I am uptight and need to be hugged more.)
