Oh god, another "OMG DO YOU KNOW GIRLS MIGHT LIKE THIS THING THAT I PERCEIVE IS ONLY LIKED BY GUYS???" thread. I see one of these per month on every forum I'm a member of, damnit!

To answer your question: I am a girl, and I like video games. >:[
Oh, these threads seem to crop up here about once a fortnight here. You'll get used to them eventually. And welcome to the Escapist, noticed you joined today, have fun, stay out of the basement etcetera etcetera.

OT: Yeah, I know a few and I have a girl-friend who likes games. And I know a couple who happen to be pretty big Bioshock fans.

Thanks for the welcome and the heads-up. XD I'll try to keep my blood pressure on an even keel. And can't I just peek in the basement...?

Oh, and I have a Rosie right next to my bed. This one [http://static.letsbuyit.com/filer/images/uk/products/original/183/95/bioshock-big-daddy-rosie-deluxe-action-figure-18395793.jpeg], as a matter of fact. :]

Limited in realm of experience here, but if they're not all about Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts especially, then they don't play much more than that. Oh wait, DMC too. Most of the girls I know who play video games are limited to these, and aren't really gamers. I know there's a much higher percentage who play all kinds of games, but none of them ever went to my school.

My sister will play any of the games I want to play with me, and uses me as a sort of tool to go through things she wouldn't want to do personally but wants to know what happens, like Silent Hill 2, Shadow of the Colossus and Fatal Frame.

Quite a few actually. And they aren't just casual gamers either, with them having played titles like dragon age, bioshock and assassin's creed, they have good taste too.

No problem. And that's a good idea about the blood pressure. XD And...well, I warned you, it's up to you if you wanna see the horror for yourself. Just head down those stairs there. ...*Runs away from basement* XD

Huh. Firstly - how did you manage to cram every single X Factor competitor ever into such a small space? Secondly - AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH

I remember being surprised when I found out that a girl I was seeing happened to play World of Warcraft when I still played. That was nice, actually :)

In real life I know some girls who "like" video games. I have only met one girl that can tell me the names of the Gears in Gears of War, the story of Modern Warfare and Modern Warfare 2, the names of Tidus' companions in Final Fantasy X, or what the Flood is. So I guess what I'm saying is that I've met girls who play for fun or because they think it will get them attention (it does), but I've rarely met one that I would call a gamer.
Case in point, one of my coworkers said, "Hey, I can prove I'm a nerd. The cake is a lie."
I replied, "Impressive. What does it mean?"
"The cake is a lie."
(Sigh) "What's it from?"
"A video game."
Yeah...those are the types of girls I've met.

Hmmm... of the top of my head, 10 of my best female friends play games, and one of them is very knowledgeable about them (that is, she doesn't just play WoW, Modern Warfare and whatever other AAA is hot at the moment). My girlfriend, also, loves gaming, and it's one of our favourite activities to do together.

My ex despised them. Probably a contributing factor to our break up after 3 years in fact.

My best friend quite likes them and we play on xbox quite a bit. She's on these forums actually.

I know a few at my college. A few at home too, but they're much more rare there. My girlfriend likes them, but that's largely because of me: she's a literature major that got very interested in the medium as we discussed it, among other awesome and complex topics, and now I've been introducing her to gaming as a storytelling medium (as well as the fun time-wasters). She really loves it so far, and we've really barely gotten started. We're playing through the Halo trilogy in hopes that she will get used to first-person gaming and get to play the philosophical awesomeness that is Bioshock, and we got through Portal, and now she's playing Final Fantasy VII (the most important game in my own understanding of video games as an artistic medium). It's more than a little awesome. :D

Yes, both my fiancé and my sister are gamers, and so is my best friends girlfriend.

Yep. Any video games in general? Probably double digits.

Plays a lot of games? Three come to mind right away.

I know a few (apart from myself, that is). They're mostly from the anime club I frequent, though.
