I was so psyched until I reached the end and it said "United States only", why do they always do that? Every contest, job offering, trial etc. Each and every time, they wait for the end to tell us that the majority of us can't apply. (Not only the Escapsit mind you) Meh, good luck to those who can though ^^
We get sent NTSC stuff, so it wouldn't work in PAL territories - and also, shipping things overseas and internationally is a headache and a half. Apologies to all of our readers outside the US, but it's just not feasible :(
\

If it's in dvd format Aussie players may have issues on some tv's (Ace Ventura used to play in b&w for me) But most of the new TV's can handle it pretty well and as for region issues a cheapo $50 dvd player will play most any region.

All that said I understand the point's about shipping fee's I tried ordering something from an american online store once and while they offered the service the price was almost $50 still I shall be crying myself to sleep tonight at the lost opportunity damn you dreamsmasher's damn you all.

Incidentally I would of gone with death note drawing comparison's of the anime, real action movie, and relight vision's of a god
and princess mononoke and how much more violent it was compared to miyazaki's other younger audience oriented works. not that that is a bad thing loved the movie

Well, I guess that is a very good point. I guess I cannot cry too much considering all the people that use this forum and don't live in the US and would like to have this job.

As qualified as I am to apply for this, I suck at meeting deadlines. Also, I only watch it with the native (mostly japanese) language with english subtitles, I just can't watch most dubbed animes. (Not my fault most dubs suck) I also like the more obscure ones, liking only Gurren Lagann and Ouran High from the ones on that list.

I'd rather give the position to Miki anyway, since I lack the imagination for reviews.

Rrgh, I could literally spit across the US border.
Stupid Canada; stupid Montana. AND I could talk for hours about TTGL, though admittedly I watched the Japanese version back in 07. Never could watch the English - I much like many others fell victim to "THAT'S WHAT KAMINA SOUNDS LIKE IN ENGLISH?!" Syndrome

I'd love to review but there are a few draw backs
1, I don't have enough knowledge on Anime (Much to my annoyance)
2, I wouldn't be able to keep to the deadlines.
3, My spelling a grammar would appal you
4, I'm English

I'm sure there are more but oh well XD.

PS. Good luck entrants!

A request to whoever posts these things on here: Can you please state country specific things either in the title or at the very beginning of the article? It is extremely annoying to read all the way through and then discover it's USA only. The same goes for competitions and whatnot.

I also fail to see why it's USA only considering it costs very little to send a DVD sized package worldwide, not forgetting the fact that we could always buy them ourselves. I have the whole season of Death Note (and am currently watching it funnily enough) so could quite easily review it.

Dammit.
I was really getting my hopes up, until again I saw
Due to format differences and international (and overseas) shipping fees, this position is open to residents of the continental United States only. You must be 18 or older to apply.
Hell, I can get the animes easily enough not to need them shipped to me... Two of those animes I watched and enjoyed...
But then, due to my location, I am already out...
Just like last time :(
Waaaaaah!

United States only? Damn, and here I could write a god damn existential report on Death Note and Princess Mononoke (or anything from Ghibli, really).
Still it's unpaid so I suppose I'm not missing out much.

I was for several months part of London MCM Expo's radio station as the their big "Otaku". Every month they use to get a new person in but apparently this didn't happen for me and I had a great time being part of the team.

Sadly I'm in England, otherwise I'd be at this like a shot! I loved being part of the anime industry back in the day and wouldn't mind returning to it.

Oh...my! I have to say I pretty much jumped out of my chair and danced around my apartment when I read this article. I'm really excited to give it a shot!

I have only one question. I'm currently a college student with a decent enough schedule to pursue this and in need of some good volunteer service to boot. Is the "still in school" part going to be a potential concern? Or is it merely a matter of time management abilities?
It shouldn't be a problem at all as long as you can still meet the deadlines (and they're hardly rigorous deadlines - every two hours (or four episodes) = three days' time).

I have mixed feelings about this. A few years ago, I'd have leaped for joy at this kind of offer, but I've since come to accept that anime is like any other entertainment media. In other words, it's dominated largely by garbage and mediocrity, with the occasional sparkling gem to be found if you go looking for it. The promise of free anime is not really enough to make me want to add the additional responsibility and deadline on top of my already mountainous piles of college work (you know it's going to be a bad semester when you start the first week out by buying 15 books). That said, as a writer I see this as a potential opportunity to boost my (currently nonexistent) career and that's a serious plus. But is it enough to make me want to take the job?
Well, let me ask a few clarifying questions. First, how often are you looking to have a review? Are we talking a once a week thing, once every two weeks, once a month? Secondly, are there any restrictions on the method of review, aside from the above-mentioned length?
Basically, how much work would you be demanding of me? Because, while I'm not afraid of work, my schooling takes precedence over all other things and if the demands of this are going to interfere with that, then I must decline.

And on a side note, I just wrote two anime reviews on my DeviantArt page as an attempt to experiment with different forms of writing. I'd like to think that the second one was actually a really good review. Alas, neither of them was on the list. Although I could easily do Mononoke Hime - it's one of my favorites.
As said above, the length of time depends on what series we send to you. Usually it boils down to one, maybe two every month.

I for one don't approve.
I mean, I don't mean to diss the Escapist, but come on man!
Anime reviews?
Removing Unforgotten Realms?
Constant news posts about Pr0n?
What's going on?
There's also that USA only thing you just went for.
Why?
Think the rest of the world can't speak english well enough or something?
It's the trade language of the world!
I'd be surprised if I went to a country that didn't have people who knew it.
Once again, don't want to diss the Escapist, but that's just my opinion.
Because format differences are a pain, as are international/overseas shipping. It has nothing to do with language or culture or writing ability, just plain cost-effectiveness.

Please refer [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/6.168091#4523451].
Referred. What about other places that are NTSC? Like i unno Canada?
Please read more thoroughly next time - international shipping is a huge pain in the neck for this sort of thing.

It has nothing to do with writing skill and everything to do with cross-state legal issues.

International and overseas shipping is a pain in the neck, and frankly more trouble than it's worth - and that's ignoring format differences, as the DVDs that we're sent are all NTSC, and we don't really want to require anyone to buy special hardware just to do a volunteer position.
