Do You Like Anime? Write for The Escapist!

Ive had a love hate relationship with anime.

I enjoyed some of the english voiced ones available on television at the time, but it just begins to eat away at my nerves sometimes.

Accually to refraise it, I don't hate every anime but the only one that I liked from start to finish ( one that has one) is the full metal alchemist series that I have to admit transists into the annoying and embarising anime trappings at times but it makes up for it by the scenes accually being funny really funny in fact. Even though I absolutly hated the ending and the ending to movie which sort of ended thing technically worse than the way they were before.

Serious stories like death note and the gundome series reminates the awkward anime bits but its story just becomes so monotinous and boring that I could not possibly continue watching for danger of jumping out a window to add some exitement to the thirty minutes.

Naruto held my intrest for awhile but the plot hung around things for too long and soon I found entire episodes being devoted to a single fraction of a single tense conversation which dousen't stay very tense after awhile dous it?

I have heard that the action pics up much more in shipuden (or how ever you spell it) but Iv'e lost my intrest in the series.

So I can't say that I love it but I can't say that I hate it, it would have to depend on the series.

I would love to. I meet every requirement except writing ability, the best grade I ever got in English class was a D+ except for the year I convinced the teacher i was suicidal and she was more than generous to extend due dates and bump up my grade with random extra credit assignments...

International and overseas shipping is a pain in the neck, and frankly more trouble than it's worth - and that's ignoring format differences, as the DVDs that we're sent are all NTSC, and we don't really want to require anyone to buy special hardware just to do a volunteer position.

Well I already have the discs and my DVD player has a strange tendency to play NTSC discs but I do see where you're coming from. Besides there are plenty of Escapists from the US, I'm sure it won't be hard to find someone.

Wow, there are so many people who are bummed out about not meeting the requirements. Makes me feel rather bad that I do, yet probably won't try this. I'm 18, and a fairly skilled writer, but I honestly don't think I would be able to keep up with deadlines. I also highly dout that my work would be picked anyway. Being a semi-talented writer in highschool isn't nearly as intense as being a professional reviewer. (on a side note, would this job actually be considered "professional" since there is no actual pay involved?) (on another side note, I think it's really awesome that the escapist is giving people a chance to write for them)

I was so psyched until I reached the end and it said "United States only", why do they always do that? Every contest, job offering, trial etc. Each and every time, they wait for the end to tell us that the majority of us can't apply. (Not only the Escapsit mind you) Meh, good luck to those who can though ^^

We get sent NTSC stuff, so it wouldn't work in PAL territories - and also, shipping things overseas and internationally is a headache and a half. Apologies to all of our readers outside the US, but it's just not feasible

Unless you're sending people VHS tapes, I fail to see how it being NTSC has any bearing here.
I've been watching region 1 DVDs on my PAL television for nine and a half years.

Does anyone really have a DVD player that isn't region free in this, the Lord's year, 2010?

And shipping things internationally forces you to add the name of the country at the bottom of the address, and fork over another $5 for postage. Terrifying, I know!
But you already know that, I suspect, since you already send games to a Mr Croshaw, living as far away from the US as one can reasonably get, barring travel into the outer stratosphere. So apparently it's feasible if you're cool enough.

The video team's arrangement with Yahtzee is their own, though physically sending him games would be incredibly inefficient. We've had troubles with international and overseas shipping in the past; it's simply more trouble than it's worth.

It's not going to happen. I'm sorry, but it's just not in the cards right now.

While I find that incredibly hard to wrap my head around, having ordered or arranged packages to be sent to me from private outlets or individuals overseas probably numbering in the thousands, with hardly a single problem, that's certainly your prerogative.

I like anime but not enough to write reviews about them. Being limited to reviewing dubs would make it unbearably painful at times. Sure, there's some decent dubs out there. There's some damned fine ones even. However, we're talking about a handful of roses in a garden of weeds. They're the exception, not the rule. So, no thanks.

TTGL was a lot of fun for the non-thinking side of my brain. It was action packed with some cheerleader motivational nonsense, but in a funny way. Then Simon becomes a -CENSORED- and the whole thing basically goes to hell. It recovers but I never could forgive and forget how terrible it really got right then and I basically just didn't care what happened after that.

You know, Death Note was a terrible disappointment. It wasn't as much of disappointment as watching Rosario+Vampire after reading the manga but it was close(they took the story of the manga, gutted the plot, character development and basically anything of remote interest and added a bunch of boobs fighting over a coward as fluff). I really enjoyed it until I lost all interest after the only truly likable character in the series died. Note to anyone making up a story, if your story is full of douchebags, make sure you don't kill off the only tolerable character in the entire series without a good replacement prepared. Replacing the only likable character with yet another douchebag and a Mini-L after the fact is a bit of too little, too late. Oops, that was a spoiler. =O

Ouran High School Host Club is one of the few anime I've enjoyed from start to finish. Though, I imagine Honey could give people nightmares. It's a show I went in not really expecting to like it. It had some a lot of moments where I wanted to claw out my own eyes but I was too busy laughing to bother trying.

I haven't seen Princess Mononoke.

I'm debating applying for this. I've been an anime nut for almost ten years now, and have helped organize the major convention in Utah for the past three or four years. I've seen all of the ones listed for possible review aside from TTGL because after five or six episodes when they were first coming out, it just wasn't my cup of tea. However, I wouldn't be put off from having another go at it now that the dub has been completed. Taking into consideration the team that put it together (same as FLCL), I think it's understandable that it wouldn't be everyone's bic flip.

Some animes are rated high and may be considered best for the eyes of someone 18 or over. I don't get the USA's rating system (we just use ages - though 12A is some new thing that got made up to keep the little 'uns quiet) so can't exactly give any good examples of animes that are considered rated 18 and above in USA, after all you guys may put an anime down as 16 and above but we might put it as PG or 18.

How about a 'latest to hit the internet', rather than just north america? Or even just any old anime out there. You can't have done them all yet.
