Oh it's so fun to go back and read all these silly comments /after/ I've submitted my reviews for consideration.
John, I feel so sorry for the task you have to endure in deciding the winners... and having to deal with the numerous people who didn't seem to read your initial post. I get the feeling this thread would be half the length it is if people read... I do not envy you.
Myself, I did in fact submit my reviews. Short form on Princess Mononoke, basically giving a simple overview of the premise and underlying theme of the series, complimenting the show on the beautifully presented artistry. Long form on Death Note, which I again gave an overview of the premise and underlying themes.
I tend to agree with most of the posters here in regards to Death Note. I had avoided this like the plague for the last couple years simply because of the insanely huge number of prepubescent fanboys/girls who would attend cons in cosplay and just rant and rave about "zomg Light is so sexy and dreamy"... it gave me an aneurysm just thinking about it. It was because of this that I decided to review it. So I picked an anime I had known about and loved for over 10 years (Princess Mononoke) and an anime I had no knowledge of and had previously avoided...
However I found myself absolutely astounded by how well-done Death Note actually was. The intelligence behind the writing of the show shocked me, and made me wonder "why is it that so many people love this show... when most shows to hit 'zomg sugoi it's so awesome' are ones of lesser intelligence?" (Naruto, Bleach, DBZ, Sailor Moon, Cardcaptor Sakura, etc... not saying these are bad, they're just not high IQ series to be frank). But I thought it was a good anime, hype aside.
But anyhow, I've said too much I think.
Good luck to all who have applied! And John, please don't feel pressured by my competition, take your time as I'm sure it will give the best results to do so.
