By writing "hip hop", do you mean the whole culture or just rap music?
Because the music is called rap, not hip hop.

Hip hop is the culture. Rap is one of the elements of artistic expression within that culture. MC is the person who entertains the crowd. That person doesn't have to be a rapper as long as he/she keeps the party going.

except that in the metaphor it could affect something, whereas people calling hip hop "rap" or any variant doesn't matter, hell none of the genre's matter really and music would be better off without them
