I watch shit like that all the time on YouTube, mostly when I'm bored out of my mind. I do find it amusing, I suppose in a somewhat morbid-kinda-way.

Not out of habit. I do SEE people getting into this shit, and I might laugh because they're dumb, but it's not my entertainment venue.

I use to be amused by that but as I have gotten older it just makes me feel that people are becoming stupider for doing this shit. (I know people probably haven't gotten stupider and that the internet just simply makes it easier to find them.)

My opinion about people who watch Jackass are too severe for this forum.

That being said, we are all animals, and we all like to watch things die... from a safe distance.
obligatory video:

P.S. how do you embed in this place, it seems that each forum tries to embed youtube differently just to annoy its users.
That video is fantastic. X)

Anyway, OP, you're talking about schadenfreude. Pleasure from other people's suffering. Everyone gets it. My personal favourite is watching people fall off stuff on youtube. It's not very nice of me, but it's oh so funny...

Well, it's certainly different before you see them completely mess themselves up.
Hitting their head on the concrete, going into convulsions, having blood come from their nose and ears...
You never really forget how easily that could happen. You also never forget that gurgling sound.

So, I want to say not really but a little part of me does.
In the same light that the Titanic stuck the middle finger at nature; there's a little part of me that thinks "yeah, you're tempting fate and I kind of want you to find out why that's a horrible idea".

If nobody is grievously injured or dead, I'll have a laugh in the company of friends.
If I'm alone and watching it, it becomes much more mundane and annoying.
A bunch of whys and "what were you thinking"s.

I've found myself becoming more empathetic (and consequently more squeamish) as I get older, so watching most dangerous/painful videos makes me feel icky. :c
Seems to be the case with me, too. It's kind of weird, I can feel their pain, not just "Ouch, that's gotta hurt", but I almost feel as if I've taken the hit myself. Almost.

I don't mind happening upon something that happened purely by accident while I'm watching something else, such as the other day I watched an NHL game and Crosby got the puck in the face that definitely took out a tooth or two. I'm not going to go out of my way to search for this stuff though.

So, in short, no I do not like watching that. Besides, internet's for porn and kittens, why'd you try to look for anything else on it?

That's basically what happens to me. I've found that some things I'm not expecting while watching something else can have the same effect, but it depends on how invested I am in what I'm watching (and what's happened). It's not entirely uncommon for me to feel a bit breathless or for my throat to feel tight while watching someone being hanged, for example. D:

Yeah, pretty much. It's funny, really. Guess some of us grow out of slapstick in time. Cartoonish slapstick I can handle, but you gotta feel for the poor coyote of course.
