Post counts tend to give the wrong picture of the poster's level of posting (hoorah for redundancies). Whenever i see someone who has over 9000 posts, i know that they have either been here for a really long time, OR they tend to make really low-content posts and less meaningful contributions to threads. If they just recently joined, its more often the latter case.

But sometimes i wonder why i do not have a (relatively) high post-count, i mean, i spend a lot of time writing on this forum, but it all seems to be but a minuscule amount compared to other people. But meh, i like to think that i make the most out of each post.
It's user group chats, each one counts as another post but it's often used like MSN (as it's supposed to be). Very small posts are expected there, and usually followed up by tons of other very small posts in conversations. This causes people's post counts to sky-rocket, particularly if they chat in extremely active groups like the MLP one.

Join date is something I pay more attention to, only when reading a thread that seems foreign (not of the escapist community) though. That said, when someone drops into a thread and they have 10k+ posts they have the aura of having an e-schlong thrown back over the shoulder being worn like a scarf, irrespective of what they say.

Nah, not really, it's too easy to constantly spout drivel, sometimes with the intent of pumping up post count for some reason.

I only really notice someone's post count until it gets to about 250. After that, there's a good chance that they solidly know the ropes around here, and so their voice will be just as relevant and on-topic as anyone else. Other than that, anyone over 5K (and more so 10K) will just get a little bit of extra respect from me for sticking around so long.

Not really. With user groups and such it isn't exactly rare to see people with huge ones anyway >.>

Ah, I remember the time when I first joined the site over a year ago and seeing people with 15k+ posts and thought I would never get there.
Lololo.

OT: It doesn't mean anything, it's incredibly easy to raise it without breaking the rules.

Nope. I just read the posts and don't pay much attention to how many times they posted on a site.

only when i notice that they have like 5000 posts and only been here for a few months. so on average they do like 20 or more posts a day.

but i dont think oh he has 5000 posts so his oppinion must be more important than the guy that has 200 posts.

Somewhat, yes.

That is because I see people with less than about 750 posts breaking the same rules again and and again. < 100 is even worse in this regard.

Yes, I do.

Sometimes when I see a poster has a high post count and/or an early join date, I divide the total post count by the interval of days between join date and present day, and I arrive at the PPD (Posts per day) Index.

For instance, 10,000 total posts within 1 year is 27 PPD, which I can deduce the poster frequents the Forum Game and RP section, or is very chatty within user groups, or chooses to use simple low-content posts as a format for regular commenting.

A low post count may point to written out responses as a regular occurrence. Over a longer interval, it can mean the user is a lurker as they post at an irregular frequency, or they have taken a hiatus in that interval. I am one individual in the hiatus grouping.

Not the most accurate thing to assume using post count to describe behavioral post patterns and forum preferences, but hey, it works most of the time. Some users are not as active as others, so this is where the system falls apart.

As for how I view users with various post counts, the numbers hold little meaning to me. If the poster is acting like a jackass, just step away and let the mods do the work. Usually a less notable poster would be the one in this situation, as they've had less time to settle in, but the rules don't discriminate even for high-post commenters. With this in mind, the numbers are arbitrary and I look more at general behavior. Respect comes from knowing the user is a mature individual.

Not really. I pay little attention to people on probation with low counts though. And I get a bit wary of those with excessively high posting rate :)

I've had far higher posting rates myself on other forums at times. I just don't find that much to comment on here very often.

There's only really 3 forums I read often, plus links from Escapist content, and none of them are hugely active.

every once in a while but usually its only the person who posts the topic. when i see people with 10k or something i tend to think that they have nothing better to do with their lives.

None of you are worth my time.
Now, bring me my slippers and paper before I ***** slap you all back to the "Muckraker" days. XD

OT: Nope, not in the slightest. It's just a simple number and I tend instantly avoid anyone who so much as even hints that it means a damn thing.[footnote]Meaning those who think someone with 8000ish posts opinions matter over someone with 400 posts and/or just because someone has a high post count means that that person is more important than anyone else.[/footnote] It is a good judge of how much spare time people have though and as you can tell, my calendar has been pretty much empty for the past year and a half.

only when someone says something that makes me think think he dropped out at grade 4 just to see if dumb ass remarks are spread around this site like butter on toast.
