Do You Pay Attention to Post Counts?

I do check post counts on lot. I'd treat people with 1000+ posts with more respect then people with 100- posts (like me here). Anyways it isn't impossible that the newguy with less then 100 posts pulls out something epic or that the 1000+ poster is a full-retard.

Only When I see some outlandish opinion or poorly written or just flat out abusive or stupid comment, and then if their count is < 200 I just assume they be trollin'

What hierarchy? I think of it the same way I thought of it when I first joined. No matter how many posts you have, you're still just a person behind a keyboard and are entitled to the same amount of respect regardless.

Sure, it is natural to assume that people with less posts don't know about the rules but I've seen members as old as 2005 who have less than 100 posts. They know what the score is, they just don't post very often is all. Then you get people who have 60k posts in a relatively short time. I personally only use the count to gauge someone's addiction level to the site. In no way does post count make me biased when reading an argument between a low tier poster and someone with 5000+.

I just don't see the point in jumping in unless I've actually got something to say.

Its conflicting, because I like forums, but discussion doesn't seem to happen, there seems to be about 2-3 (non-troll) responses people can have, repeated, and all it does it add pages numbers.

I don't feel like adding to the discussion, if my opinion is roughly the same as the 30 posts before mine, just to boost my post count.
This is why I rarely respond to OT threads after the fifth page. I always feel like I'm just reiterating what has already been said. You also serve as an example for my earlier point although you aren't that old :)

[sub]Incidentally Forum Games is where my post count got so bloated. The vast majority of my posts haven't been involved in discussions.[/sub]

Well, since I suppose it's much easier to not yet be banned when you've only posted 12 times than someone who's posted 12,000 even if you behaved the same way as the person with more did. So when there's a poster with a few dozen or less posts, it does make some sense to assume they may not behave as well as a poster who had been here longer...

It's like someone's appearance, it's certainly not a sure fire way of telling what kind of person/poster they are, but it's still used as something to base assumptions off of.
So basically, a poster with less than a hundred posts in this comparison is like someone who has messy hair, a loose T-shirt and pants that hang below his waist. Not the best way to judge a person, but it's done anyways.

I tend to pay closer attention to a user's join date as opposed to their post count.

I don't treat people who've been around longer with more respect but I figure they know the site and the community better than someone who has been around a month but has 10,000 posts.
Haha, I understand this community and I recently joined about a few months ago.
Oh really? Are you suuuure?
Well! We'll just have to test you then!
Question 1: What kind of thread will get you the most results and responses?
A.) A continue the story/sentence game.
B.) A "The above poster's Avatar is now..." thread.
C.) A respond to the above poster in the manner of a Posh English Gentleman.
D.) A where did you get your Avatar/Username from thread.
E.) A PC gaming is dying thread.
F.) A "Am I the only one who..." thread.
G.) A "Ask a(blank) anything" thread.
H.) None of the above.

TRICK QUESTION!

The thread must involve Valve and must be either calling the fanboy's fanatical or just pointing out reasons why Half Life is a terrible series. Responses galore!

... I was trying to look for a "above avatar" thread that had more posts than a Valve thread, and I noticed there's a almost disturbing amount of results on the first page that have exactly 35 posts.
http://www.escapistmagazine.com/global/search/?q=the+above+avatar&cx=005672590579257297818%3Amkmrjhvsnwa&cof=FORID%3A9&ie=UTF-8&sa.x=0&sa.y=0#1276 and most of the results aren't from just the same thread.
Eeeery.

No because their are a lot of stupid topics that people can post in, you can have 10 000 posts but if half of them are in pedophilia topics then well you clearly post on anything just to talk even though you have nothing to add to the discussion.

Only if the post count is in the single/double digits, and it's clear that they're trolling ("Suicide troll account").

I've done it. But to be honest, not a whole lot. Post counts are an indication of how well that person treats the forums though (just in the sense they tend to be more respectful).
Half the reason I'm posting this is now I'm curious what my post count it. xD

EDIT: I don't post much to be honest. There's usually no reason. xD

Hidden option I. A thread with a statement so semi offensive and controversial, it makes ghosts pop a blood vessel.
Alright then, good answer.
Question 2: What is the video series most openly disliked/despised/hated by the community to have ever had a video spot each week?

A.) Zero Punctuation
B.) Apocalypse Lane
C.) Unskippable
D.) Miracle of Sound
E.) GameDogs
F.) Unforgotten Realms
G.) Rebecca Mayes Muses
H.) There will be Brawl
I.) ENN
J.) "People on the Escapist are too civilized to express distaste for something!"
K.) Other.
L.) Jimquisition
M.) Movie Bob
N.) Big Picture

This one is a bit more off a toss up...

Its a funny habit some of us pick up isn't it? We look at a person's post count, and we sometimes makes assumptions based on them. For example, any time I see someone with over Ten Thousand posts, I tend to treat them with more respect, since they must have payed attention to the rules and been reasonable to have lasted that long.

At the same time, I tend to look down on newer posters, since I'm still suspicious of people who might not yet know the rules, or are stealth trolls.

Then there are the regulars with a thousand posts or more, and I equate myself to being on the same level as them.

Does anyone else here do this? If you do, can you think of why we might set up a mental image of a forum hierarchy?
Well I only look at posts based on which title it gives them. I'm currently a Muckraker, and soon to be a Press Junketeer (I think), a title I prefer more, but its just a forum title, so it doesn't matter

As for how my opinions will change once I've posted another 6XX times - they won't, I'm just as smart and talented a writer now as I will be then, almost certainly, and my gaming opinions will only change to the point of new information (if a new game is released in that time, then I will form an opinion specifically on that game, if I play it and know about it).

I mean, I guess people with less than 100 posts (100s a fair bit), I might be slightly skeptical of 'oh, you're just a paper boy' but really, those people could stay here and post more than me in the future, so who am I to judge based on the flimsy little title that we're given?

Really, I tend to see their avatars as signs of judging, since I recognize avatars over post counts.

If I don't see your avatar too often, I look down; anything else, you're just a regular poster I don't judge.
