Tyranids were always good for me. I just like the fact that you can plan all you want, but at the end of the day their only real tactic is charging in and letting the sharp bits do the talking. Range is for pussies, dammit!

I'm also very fond of speed freak orks, even though I never amassed a huge horde they're just ridiculously fun.

I'm really interested in 40k, but I don't really have the money to start collecting and I don't know anyone who plays.

If I do start, Ork's are the army I'm probably gonna go with.

best thing to do is find someone who may be interested split the cost of assault on black reach and you have the orks and the other person has the marines its what that starter set was really meant for

For Teh Blood Of Sanguinis!!!
OT:Due to my bad paintjob I'm selling my blood angels to buy more space marines so I can start all over.
Also I'm tempted to get tyranids or orks.

I used to play an Ork Speed Freek army. Fully painted and almost all models converted. In fact, I enjoyed chopping up various models and building unique ones more than actually playing the game.

It really sucked when somebody stole the Warboss I spent so many painstaking hours on.

I actually put my first guy together not a week ago. It was a Chaos Marine. Apparently I'm really good at the buisness of getting the parts smooth. The only thing I don't know how to do know is paint..

I'll probably get into 40k more for collector's purposes than for playing the game, sort of like why I collected Zoids and Gundam action figures.

my two 40k armies are marines and ork, but i do not have an up to date set of rules... and you sir may well have just relit the old fires

my orks are from the goff clan and the marines keep changing the name of their chapter, but its one i made up, they are a dirty grey (armour washed codex grey) and their symbol is a simple cross i got them because i wanted some pretty tanks (and i prefer predators to the leman russ before any ig criticize)

I'm one of those incredibly annoying people (or at least, I'm annoying to all people I've ever met in the local GW) that doesn't really collect. I build and paint for the enjoyment and for display. Surprisingly though, I've managed to amass a large force of Salamanders, including a leader made of about 30 different parts from across both 40k and fantasy XD
do you have a picture? i'd love to see that

I don't play tabletop 40K, but so far I really liked the computer games and I enjoy painting myself, so I usually have fun by just looking at other people's awesome craft when I visit GW stores in the city.

If I was to build an army, it would propably one of these types (that I think look cool since I don't really know the rules that well):
Tau. Love the 60-70's inspired alien designs of their hover crafts and armour. Awesome.
Dark Eldar. How sinister can it look? This is the benchmark I think.
Necrons. Always had an affinity for the undead, and these dudes just look plain cool.

2500 points of Tyranids.

You mean nothing. Your units mean nothing. Your tactics and careful deployment mean nothing. Your guns, bombs and swords mean nothing. The only thing that can save you is if I make a mistake. I do not make mistakes, and you are crushed and consumed without a soul to witness your pointless sacrifice, your plans nothing but a fact unrelated to the outcome, your paltry damage a lie and laughable attempt to form a spine in your back... promptly consumed.

I always loved playing Imperial Guard, the squishy suckers. On paper, they sound like they should tear Nids to pieces, but that assumes that Nids let people have a say in how things unfold...

some quick questions. I want to get into 40k but reading everything here confuses me.

what are regiments and what are the differences etc.

and what is converting?
I either want to get into imperial guard or those ones that look like robots (really blanking out on them)

I play Necrons and have a fairly substantial 2000 point army, but I am going to buy some Imperial Guard soon as I want to make the "Tanith First" regiment from the Gaunt's Ghosts series of books by Dan Abnett.
