I usually play to get any kind of bonuses I can from people, whether that be protecting people or beating them to death.
As for looks, I usually just make it up but it always ends up having a resemblance to me. So they're always dashing young fellows. Har har, I make funny joke!
I should probably stop giving them glasses. But that might stop them looking like Gordan Freeman...
I just can't win.

I always try to make a character(male or female, depending on the coin-toss) that has a purple mohawk and insane facial hair, that way,I can giggle when npcs ask me in all seriousness to save the world.

Also,I like making huge,muscular red-haided viking man,extra points if I can equip a battleaxe.
Because nothing else is as terrifying as an 8 foot tall barbarian that drinks alcohol from his enemies' skulls.

Also,I act nice the first playthrough, then I play as the very definition of chaotic evil.

Oh GOD no!

I try to make a character that I would least find any resemblence to myself. By playing a totally different person, I learn how that character thinks and acts in different situation. Then I will absorb his/her knowledge and grow as a person and a human being.

If I'd have many lives, I'd not repeat one story over and over again.

If the customizer allows me to create characters that aren't necessarily buff and well-built, I try and recreate myself. If not, I usually make someone famous/fictional. For example, I play as Jesus in Soul Calibur IV.

I would say nope. I always go for my extremes. Like all of my evil or all of my good, just to see what it's like. I'd love to create a completely evil version of my self in real life and have a game of chess against him.

Well, I guess I do tend to make myself. My Fallout 3 character looks somewhat like me, and I do make choices based on my own real life morals. The unrealistic thing is, some of the choices I make I'm not sure I'm strong enough to make in real life (like accepting others despite flaws and all). Oh, and he also has my name. So does my Oblivion character. Only I am not a wood elf with heavy armor, claymores, destruction magic, and some bows. Hell, even my DnD character has my name.

I normally play characters from novel ideas I'm working on if the game allows me. I also sometimes re-use old tabletop rpg characters
The character I usualy use is mixed-race female warrior with a strong sense of honour and a hatred of "civilised" authority figures.

I do model it after myself but I always wonder about an hour into the game: do I really want to do this? lol

another kleptomaniac here.

Unless the game punishes stealing there's not enough reason to respect NPC property.

Whenever I come to games I tend to play as women (though I'm a guy), no idea why
It is just a control fetish. No big deal.

In D&D I don't tend to play myself. Don't see the point of that, being myself full time. I usually go for characters which are challenging to play.

I usually have one character that is me, then a load of others that aren't really based on anything in particular.

I tend to play as a sort of idealized version of myself. I make the choices that I like to believe I'd make in my character's situation, even if I'm not 100% sure I could live up to them in reality.

Sort of yeah, I mean i wouldn't do allot of the things that i do in games because i fear getting locked up in a 3x4 cell. But when its a game like fallout 3 infamous or even mmoRPGs i would be a real asshole... But yet again its just an outlet from all you gather from the real world. If i had another outlet maybe i would be nicer in games...
