i generally create 2 characters with an RPG, one that isnt me to blow through the storyline, usuaully a blue haired female who does all the right things for the sake of making people resond in ways you want to to benefit you, and another character that i try to get looking like me who is the perpetual bastard who backhands children in the game and gets a jolly out of stealing everything.

and i sold that kid to slavers in Fallout 3. What does that say?
That little girl with the pj's? I felt like a total asshole for doing that to like a 6 year old girl. But the dark side overcame me and I got me my Bogeyman Hood :p

Usually, I choose the options that most suit myself, though on occasion I will just go absolutely nuts and pick the opposite, just to challenge myself.

No, I prefer to play as the character they give me, If I wanted to be myself I wouldn't play video games.

I find that i act like myself for the first half of the game, and when i reach the half point in the story I tend to do more crazy evil things. Sparks a Gummy bear gets raped and becomes adolf hitler kind of story line.

I don't. I play choice-based RPGs to take on a different persona. It's interesting to put yourself in someone else's mind.

I'm a fairly compassionate person in real life, but in games, I'm usually a huge dick. It's very cathartic, stress-relieving, and a good way to get my negative feelings out of my system. The problem is that most choice-driven games don't provide the option to do what I would actually do were I in the character's situation, so sometimes I'm stuck doing obviously craven or idiotic things just because the other choices are even dumber.

In terms of physical appearance, I am a pale-faced, 148-pound college student with stupid-looking hair. I never make the character look like myself, much less act like myself.

Every once in awhile I make my character look like me, but I usually just do whatever to better myself in the game and dont much care for the NPC's. Ya, and im a klepto in games :)

I have a set of characters that I use in every game I play and grow with every game I play. It's weird. Some of them are like me, some of them aren't.

I usually play myself or how I would like to be or how I perceive myself. This means I usually play a cleric/healer, a paladin or a bard.

First play through I always go with what I look like or make the character look how I would want to look, if given the chance to shape that character. Then I go out and make choices based off how I actually think.

Second playthough after some time to let the game fade from memory a bit? I simply ask "what would Ashly from Evil Dead trilogy do?". That always makes a game more interesting. Why, you could say it makes the game groovy.

First time through a game, I pick a character I think represents me, or that I would like to be (If there is none of the former available), and then plays as I would in that situation. Help people like I would, answer questions like I would, and behave like I would.

It helps me really get the most out of the story.

After that, if the game was good, I play through to have fun with other classes and races that I didn't before.

No, if I played as me I would sit in the tavern drinking all day or go round hunting down all the med-x I could find.

I usually go for some sort of sneaky sniper type (or fantasy world equivalent)...usually a blonde chick with a ponytail...probably because it reminds me of of a certain ex girlfriend [/amateur psychology].

Morally I just can't do the evil thing, it's just a computer game but I still can't bring myself to blow away innocent people or take the 'bad karma' option.

My characters tend to be rather different then my real life. Its good to be the way you want to be, but can't because of society (people get so uppity when you start killing them and taking their loot)

Yep, exactly the same, tall lanky character that can only survive by running like fuck, or throwing shit at other shit.

I tend to make them the Anti-me, and make them do the opposite thing to what I'd do.

Also, Tabletop RPG's are always male, 3D RPGs tend to be female due to the fact that i'd rather be looking at a woman's back then a man's, and you get given free stuff more often.
