My gaming habits have me obsess over one genre or theme at a time, and I play that genre/theme to the exclusion of all others. Whether the games are brand new or DOS-era old, I will play through all the games I have of that nature or as many until I get bored, then I usually avoid gaming until a new genre tweaks my fancy.

As an example, I once went FPS-crazy and played Doom, Doom2, Doom3 + Exp, Prey, Pariah, Fear + Extraction Point, Crysis, Far Cry, Return to Castle Wolfenstein, Halo, Halflife 2, Portal, Halflife, and had just begun Blue Shift when I finally grew tired of FPS'ing.
Question: is Pariah any good? It got mixed reviews, but it seemed solid.

If I could ever get my Nintendo 64 out of storage I'd be playing Bomberman : Second Attack and Star Fox 64.
And maybe some Superman 64.

Nah.

Some of the oldies never die. As with some of the above I occasionally dust off UFO, and I can't ever go long without playing R-Type (it's been 20 years and I still can't beat level 5...) My pals and I sometimes try Red Alert II for its lunatic multiplayer, although RA3 may shortly supersede that. Plus XBLA has gifted us with some good oldies; Golden Axe, Soulcalibur, Speedball II and SWOS are all on there. I also just got in to Uplink the other week when my internet was down and I needed something offline to try.

On a bum note, I tried Half Life: Source on Steam and deleted it in disgust when it refused to render my hands or weapons. No point in playing if you can't see the crowbar!

I still play some of my old games, Red Alert 2, Alien 3, Alien Trilogy, Red Faction/2, Splatterhouse 1-3, Altered beast...the list goes on.

I don't play them just because they're old and have fond memories attached, I play them mostly because they tend to be, as we used to say in the ghetto, groovy relics of a time long past.

Whilst the 360 is loading/downloading I do.

Prime example, Yesterday whilst my mates gamertag was downloading we were playing through all my sega saturn games.

I play some of my old games, but I rarely replay them to the end. I get bored about halfway through and start replaying another old one. I really like reexperiencing the storylines of some of the games, and some have gameplay that you just can't find anywhere else.

I am actually playing through Headhunter on my Dreamcast at the moment. God that game has aged terribly, just feels slightly slow and clunky now. And whoever's idea it was to map the stealth kill button to the Use button sucks. You have to be absolutly perfectly behind a guard to snap their neck, otherwise you just throw a fake bullet at them and alert them.

I have my psone in my uni room. Though I mostly just play puzzle games on it, and the dungeon mode on Ergheiz.

Sometimes me and my friend dig out his megadrive and play Streets of Rage or something when we want an "old school" game to play.

Here in my uni house we have a PS1 with Metal Gear Solid, Silent Hill, FIFA 96 and Team Buddies. Always a bit of a laugh when you are in the right mood.

Recently played what's still one of my all time favorites: Beneath a Steel Sky [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beneath_a_Steel_Sky]

One of my biggest disappointments in gaming is the death of the "point and click adventure game"

I've just embarked on a journey of going through the stack of old games in my collection and its amazing how, while the graphics are horrible (compared to now), the games are still just as enjoyable now, as they were then.

An example of the games I'm going through at the moment:

Dune 2: Building of a Dynasty, Rise of the Triad, Quake, Terminal Velocity, Fallout, and Command & Conquer Tiberium Dawn. There are more, but I can't be bothered looking for them atm.

I recently found my old playstation 1, and have been playing old games on that, such as Grandia, Spyro and Dino Crisis. Ahh, sweet nostalgic memories! :D

Yeah, I get out my old games quite a bit. Sometimes, it's when I get stuck in my newer games and can't seem to progress anymore. Then I'll take a break from them and bust out my SNES/NES console or Atari 2600 and play games on them. I also cycle through my PC games. I have a few pretty new PC games, but I keep going back to my old ones too.

It's a good game, but the plot's a little hard to follow. If you can track it down cheap, you could do a hell of a lot worse.

I'm going through my collection of games I picked up and never really got into, so in that sense, yeah, I play old games. Recently finished Lemony Snicket, which I started a while back and never finished. On Turok at the moment, and I really wish I wasn't.

I'll also play old games I've finished before just to remind myself of what a great game is. I'm trying to get System Shock II fully hi-res'd so I can just jump into that when I'm in one of those moods. I also replay Half-Life I with an alarming regularity, even though I'm tired of it. There's just nothing better out there...
