Do you prefer having a large or small game collection?

I used to have a massive game collection which eventually began to feel stifling and I sold the bulk of it to pay for new furniture. Every now and then when I see pictures of larger collections (a magazine I subscribe to had a feature on collections) I feel this pang of regret even though at the time my collection began to feel more like a burden than a joy.

(I also just want to throw out that I'm not a hoarder, I just really liked my games and spent a lot of effort seeking some of them out. >.>)

Although I will admit when I thinned out my collection I was a tad overzealous and sold a few great and a few rare titles. I'm just glad that emulators and digital downloads are usually an option...

These days I prefer a smaller collection of games that I adore on systems that I enjoy.

What about you guys?

I prefer a smaller collection of games I know I'll definitely play, due to Steam sales I've often bought things I'd thought I'd play but turned out to leave uninstalled and having never played and often enough the more choice I have the less I find myself playing more of them which in the end leaves me playing 2-3 games tops.

I also dislike having a backlog because I never get through it and listing things isn't my thing.

I prefer having a larger collection even though it's always one I've gradually acquired across several years. There are actually very few times I've traded in a game.

It's usually because I'll sometimes find myself in the mood to play a certain type of game whether it's FPS, in the fantasy genre, or maybe something a little more comedic. This sort of ensures that there's always an option when I get into those moods. Although I have a PS4 now, I don't play it terribly often since it often doesn't cater to what type of game I might want to play at a given moment in time. At least, not until we start seeing more releases. It also doesn't help that it's in the living room instead of in our basement/gaming room but that's a whole other issue.

Mixed bag. I like a large collection, but I have a small collection. I only buy retail and only purchase stuff I will definitely like. So far so good.

Didn't you know that game collection size is directly correlated to dick size? It's a fact, Jack!

OT: Physically, not so much because soon it'll take up more space than I'm willing to handle.

Online, hell yeah! It's virtual, no one cares! :D

Large for your average Joe, medium for a game collector. I have one of those cheap four-shelf bookcases, and it houses 90% of my physical games.

On Steam, I have about 200. I don't know how that ranks compared to other Steamers. I've only played about 40% of them though, I buy a lot of bundles.

EDIT: I misread the title. I prefer having a large collection, and I'm always looking to improve mine.

I'm a collector so I prefer a large collection.
That being said, I prefer quality over quantity.

I'm not going to go out and buy the entire Carnival Games series just to pad out my collection.

My collection tends to remain pretty trim. I only keep the best games forever. The rest I tend to just give away. Mass Effect and Final Fantasy 7 will always have a place on my shelf. But dirge if Cerberus and infamous? They're probably collecting dust at a friends house right now. I liked infamous at the time, but I never replayed it. I get the feeling that the same will eventually happen to skyrim and alien: isolation if I were to ever get it.

I want to have all the games, I want to have a massive-ass shelf full of games that take up too much room in my house.

Boyfriend, however, is a complete and utter trade-in whore.
In fact right now he's trying to convince me to trade in our Xbox and all our old games so that we can have some credit to go towards the PS4 I so desperately need.

This is one of the downsides of being a gamer couple.

[small] Seriously though I don't know if I should trade in my Xbox I've had it for so long and spent so much money on it I kind of love it a little bit is that weird but ohgod do I need a PS4 by the time DA3 is out...[/small]

I have a medium sized collection of 180 physical games from last gen while earlier gens I emulate when I can. I like pick up and play / last for a lifetime arcade games as well as the 10-40 hour experiences so having a large collection comes with the territory.

I'm in a similar situation but I'm keeping my 360 and games as the type of games I like (mid tier / SP / Japanese) have become somewhat of a rarity in the current industry.

If you have similar tastes I'd hold onto your collection.

Ahh, well in that case, the solution is obvious.

Dump him.

On a serious note I'm not convinced the PS4 is worth trading in for, since you'll probably get something like one PS4 game for every ten Xbox games. PS4 games are prettier but aren't THAT much better.

Well I mostly use Steam and sales are a thing so a large library is inevitable. That said I only have about 10 games installed at a time.

Generally varied, carefully curated, kinda ends up being considerable over six or so systems.

Also I don't like to run up a massive Steam library, but I have 100+ games on GOG.com.

Hello double standards, my old friend.

I prefer to keep what I buy, I mean, if I could at least sell it for half the price I could consider sell some but since its usually just for 20% or less of the original price then fuck that, I might as well keep it.

I have a decent sized game collection and prefer to have something on the larger end of the spectrum just so I have options. Every now and then I'll have the urge to go back and replay something, so having the game available to me still is very convenient. For this reason, I only sell games that I KNOW I have no intention of ever playing again. I still have numerous NES, SNES, PS and PS2 games simply because I may want to play them again at some point (though to be fair, I haven't hooked up any of the Nintendo systems in years, nor played a PS1 game).

Large. At the end of the day it's a hobby and what I'm interested in, so I like to try a lot of things and it's worth going all in for. That said I did get rid of most of my 360 games after I jumped onto the far more seaworthy and luxurious PC gaming ship (which happens to be a £85,000,000 super yacht with champagne fountains and all the expensive buffet food I can eat and the high-class courtesans I can bed, compared with the leaky tin bath of the current gen consoles, but I am both being harsh and digressing.)

I believe I have owned roughly 130-150 console games, of which I now own just about 10, and a Steam Library of 84 games, none of which have I paid full price for, save for one or two. I only have about 50 installed though, because of bundles and the occasional piece of crap that a friend sent after he bought a cheap multi-pack of something shit. I have however played pretty much all of those 50.

My words exactly, good Sir.

I am into retro gaming, so I've gathered a little collection of the best games for a few select consoles.
Still a long way to go, but such is the joy of collecting.

I love larger collections! I always have something to play, but the hardest part is accepting that you'll never finish all your games.
Plus I just can't keep a small collection since I'm a horrible spend thrift.
