Do you purposely avoid REALLY big forum posts?

I jump into any discussion I have something to say.

And of course, if that person is wrong I can't help myself.

Even if I'm not quoting, I always have something important to say.

I don't think I avoid threads with a lot of posts, it's just that most of them don't interest me. If I have something to say about something, I'm going to post, regardless of it's popularity. But that popularity might stop me from reading all of the posts, unless the topic is something I'm really interested in or there's a decent discussion taking place.

I enjoy the thought of other people reading my posts, and I hope that I'm contributing in any threads requesting help or advice, but if my post isn't read, it isn't read.

Yup, that's pretty much how it goes. If your reply isn't at least on the first 2 pages there's so little chance of your comment being reads, so I just think "what's the point?".

I tend to avoid massive threads because I can never be buggered to read them before I post, if it's something that interests me though, I'll risk repeating something someone else has said.

I prefer joining in a small thread and riding it out until the discussion value has dried up, so sometimes I end up in huge ones, but only if I've been posting/reading the whole time.

You're right,I sugest somebody implements a posting rating system, you know, the most relevant posts get read first or something, that or the funny ones, whatever is good for me

Sometimes, yeah. But mostly just because I usually always read the whole thread before posting to ensure that I'm not just going to be reiterating something that's been said a dozen times already. Sometimes I just don't feel like trawling through 10+ page threadnoughts.

Honestly I prefer just getting into a thread when it's relatively new, saying my piece, and then leaving. Occasionally I'll have an exchange with someone if I'm quoted, but aside from that I don't often check back regularly on the thread. Mostly because it seems to always end up with both sides of the conversation running out of original things to say and just repeating what's been said already until the thread dies.

I make it my business to read through every reply to a thread before I post something myself.
So, yes, sometimes I avoid big ones out of pure laziness.

Not really. If a thread has a lot of posts then I'll add my two cents anyway if the topic interests me and I know enough to be able to find two cents in my pocket about the discussion. If there are a lot of pages then the simple answer is to just not bother reading them and add a post with no responses (or simply read through the last page on the thread for any discussions that are happening/ could happen).

For me it's less whether or not it has a lot of pages and more just whether or not I can write enough on the topic. A post on something you know nothing about is a useless post, with the result that I often delete a lot of posts which I start writing as I just can't think of enough to write in them. I care a little about whether or not people respond; getting a quoted message in my inbox is definately very nice but I'm not too fussed if what I write meets blind eyes. You may question my incentive for writing then; I think it's just the potential for discussion which pushes me, even though it doesn't really annoy me if people don't read what I write.

Also after I post I will keep an eye on the thread for any more discussion in that thread I could add to.

If you always have something important to say and jump into any discussion in which you have something important to say, does that mean you jump into every discussion?

That still relies on people reading through the whole thread, though. If people aren't reading the whole threads (which is what's putting people in this thread off posting), how can they find something relevant to rate positive/ irrelevant to rate negative?

No, I'll state my opinion on whatever page the topic is on by the time I find out about it.

More than not, yeah.

Which is pretty much the explanation for having a big post count and why I am pretty social in real life. I have many things to say.

Well the reason I came onto this thread was because it was only on page 1. Nothing really gets heard after that.

I also try to do this, so I don't miss something that's already been said. sometimes though I directly quote someone on the first few pages, just to start a direct conversation.

I did the same thing for a while. I don't like the hot threads in it because I like to read a lot of it, thats diffcult to do when the thread is over 10 pages long.

Yeah, you just end up getting lost in the shuffle so yeah I like smaller Threads so we can respond to each other and have a conversation.

I tend to avoid rather large threads, mostly because someone has already stated what I'd want to put already

If I'm going to tell one of my industrial-strength tales of misspent youth, I damn well want it to get read, so I save them for smaller discussion threads and wait for the "quoted" messages to roll in :)

If it's something I feel I can honestly contribute to, or something I feel strongly about, then I usually do, having read most of the responses.

Otherwise I tend to stick to things which have at most 3/4 pages, depending on the topic.
