I absolutely stand behind the American flag and respect it. Now standing behind the government that controls it... no.

Angry guy: I burn your flag!
Me: No, you burned your flag.
Angry guy: No, this is your country's flag!
Me: Yeah, but you paid for something just to burn it, look silly to me.
Angry guy: Hmmmm, do you have a flag you own handy?
Me: No, can not say I do.
Angry guy: *squints* ... *walks away*

A bit, but not to the point of jingoism. I respect what it stands for, freedom from apartheid, world's best constitution (shut up, it is) etc. and I like the fact that it has more than 3 colours, but otherwise it's not exactly a miracle-inducing entity that I own 47 shrine's to.

I love my countries flat. It's right up there in my top 5 most beautiful flags ^_^

But we can't really hang the Union Jack on our houses in England, believe it or not, the local councils actually order you to remove them because they could cause offence to people who are not British. It's happened a few times.
your community disgusts me.
It's not the community, it's the Government. We are also actively encouraged not to use Christmas, instead using Holiday Season as it may offend people who don't believe in Jesus.

We are not supposed to say Halloween now either, as it offends the god squad. (Catholics).

Politically correct Britain strikes again.
Who elects said government? Sorry, I thought council meant more of what would be called a local government, sorry I'm not up to snuff when it comes to British political structure.

I'M catholic! And all of this makes absolutely no sense to me. I dont' go around saying people shouldn't say, "happy Hanukkah" to me if they're jewish... or ramadan, any islamic holiday... or any of that. I smile politely. Sure, it doesn't mean anything to me, but who am I to make a fuss about someone being proud and happy with their way of life and wishing me well?

Well, I don't vote for local councils, I don't believe in them. A colossal waste of money, we could fire them all and centralise the government in London again. Local councils are more trouble than they are worth.

I work with kids, less now than I used to because I'm at University, but I'm still connected in the industry. It's massively political and you have to plan everything your going to say hours in advance so you can screen our anything that could cause offence to the huge checklist of people who could take offence, for fear of losing your job/appearing in court.

Yeah, were not allowed to do anything like christmas or easter unless we dedicate the same amount of time and effort to holidays and celebrations other cultures have, I find that perfectly fair.

I'm an Athiest, I'll point it out before I go furthur.

What really grates on me is when people presume to tell me what I can and can't say or do.

The government is scared to death or people who shout "racist" frankly, as they usually win massive payouts in court for the most trivial things. What baffles me is, that people move to this country of their own free will, knowing it's a Christian country, with very strongly held traditions and beliefs and then fail to integrate with us and accuse us of being racist and inhospitable.

The UK can hardly be accused of not being diverse or welcoming to outsiders. The UK is one of the most diverse countries on Earth, it's one of the things that makes us stronger. London, is 40% (37.8 actually) ethnic. I can break that down.... 13.1 per cent are South Asian. Indians 6.5%... Bangladeshis and Pakistanis 2.3%. 2% are classed as "Other Asian".

Also, 10.7 are black, but they are British, so I've not included them in the 40%. 5.5% are Black African, 4.3% as Black Caribbean and 0.7% are "Other Black".

1.5% are Chinese; and 1.9% belong to another ethnic group. I've not listed Mixed Race people anywhere.

So as you can see, we are perfectly diverse and do mostly live in harmony. It's the very vocal minority, mostly these idiotic charity movements that keep campaigning for the government to top offending these people (who usually don't have a complaint in the first place)

I blame the bloody do-gooders. You know, like Gay Liberation idiots? They have no place in modern day Britain frankly, yet they keep going, pushing peoples noses out of joint. Gays are being beaten up now days because people find them just plain annoying, a steriotype brought on innocent people like me by these do-gooders. As a gay guy, I find the gay liberation people annoying. Here in the UK, I am protected by Law. Being gay is perfectly normal now and cannot influence how people treat me, unless they want to be arrested/sued. So we don't need liberation groups any more.

Sorry, I went on a bit there. Rant over.

i really dont care too much about the american flag. it is nothing more than a piece of cloth. i do respect the ideals it stands for such as the bill of rights and the constitution which sort of ironically justify burning a flag as free speech lol.

wait... you're mad that people can sue because of perceived discrimination, and yet you say you are perfectly fine with your ability to sue.. Hmm... Maybe I'm not quite getting it. maybe you are more responsible with the law. That must be it, yeah, sorry, I'm sure you wouldn't sue unless you had a very solid case and you'd be pursuing legal action only in the gravest of circumstances. I'm sure your fellow countrymen can trust you to not abuse the system.

Your last paragraph is extremely interesting and I would like to say a lot on it but, that would be grossly off-topic.

Well considering the fact that I basically hate most of my country (America) for being a load of stupid, thick headed, douche bags (don't take offence to that if you are American please). I know that does not go for everyone but it still sums up allot of our population. And the way that it got founded is also a terrible thing to celibate, going up to some country you just found out about and killing off their residents and raping their ladies just so you could have a place to call your own? Freaking terrible if you ask me (I am mostly native american, go figure :p). And don't get me started on their money grubbing companies that take our money that we HAVE to give them for the "bailout" that was suppose to be for the company, but instead was mostly used on vacations and bonuses for the already ruling the world rich as hell bosses.

But damn, I am sorry for ranting so much about a country that is in fact not all that bad, but it has allot of room for improvement (again not trying to dis any Americans here).

This poems kinda sums it up for me (yeah its a little 50's, but the last stanza is still good):

It's just a piece of cloth.
That's all it is---just a piece of cloth.
But when a little breeze comes along, it stirs,
It comes to life, flutters and snaps in the wind...
all RED, WHITE, AND BLUE! And then you realize
That no other piece of cloth could be like it.

It has your whole life wrapped up in it...
The meals you eat;
The time you spend with your family;
The kind of things your boy or girl learn in school

Those stars in it...
They make you just as free
As the stars in the wide deep night.
And those stripes
They are the bars of blood to any dictator
Who would try to change this way of life.

Just a piece of cloth. That is all...
Until you put your soul into it
And give it meaning.
Then it is a symbol of liberty, decency
And fair dealing for everyone.
It is just a piece of cloth until you breath life into it
Until we make a stand for everything we believe in,
And refuse to live without it.
