Do you start a new game on easy and then change or start on normal?

I always start out normal and if I like the game enough I'll play it again on hard. I never play easy mode... then it's just too easy.

Always normal, unless it's a game that asks you questions to see how good you would be, in which case I will go with hard if it says so, and if it says easy I will go back to normal.

Normal; on subsequent playthroughs I crank it up to hard, or harder (whatever else is available) if I'm feeling particularly ballsy.

I tend not to lower the difficulty if I do run into trouble, not through any conscious decision though, I just forget about being able to. The only game where I was given enough problems consistently to remember was Dragon Age: Origins when it was brand new, my first playthrough. Ahhrg, bloody Broodmother.

I like to do that too, usually to get a feel for the system. If that's not an option I'll usually play for about 5 hours and restart from the beginning.

I always start on normal, and if the game allows, and I find normal to be too easy, I move up to hard.

I usually play my games on the easiest setting, because I'm more into games with story and feeling, puzzles, and fun, rather than constantly getting killed because of simple mistakes. Some games I do play on harder difficulties though, like Fallout 3 and elder scrolls games, which just aren't fun at ALL unless on the hardest possible difficulty!

If it's a Flash game, certainly. If it's a PC or console game, I read the manual and/or play the tutorial level, which is effectively the same thing.

Depends what sort of a game it is, with FPS I usually start on veteran or whatever the equivalent is, sometimes i'll start on normal though - depends if it has boss fights, I loath and despise boss fights.

I start on normal and then adjust the difficulty depending on how hard the game is. I rarely adjust up to hard mode, simply because I no longer have the time or patience to challenge myself much outside of work.

I can't remember the last time I played a game on "Easy"

I always start on Normal and bump it up to Hard if I'm breezing through it.

However, I very rarely move to the 'Extra Hard' layer, unless it's Halo or something like that.

For shooters I start on easy and if I feel comfortable with the controls move up to normal. I always go for normal on RPGs though, I never go easy on those.
