Do you still read instruction booklets?

Seeing as how I'm new here, and this is a question that has been bothering me non-stop, I'll ask.

DO YOU STILL READ THE INSTRUCTION BOOKLETS FOR YOUR GAMES?????

Or are you one of those gamers that just pops in the disc, and figures it out as you go along?

I for one, still read them, just so I know what the hell I'm doing, unless it's a game like God of War 2, after just playing the first one. Controls are literally the same, so no real need.

Not really.

I used to love reading them for something to do when I wasn't playing the game or was waiting in anticipation for my turn with the TV, but they seem to have lost most of the fun little quirks that used to make them so fun to skim through. Now they really are just instruction booklets, which isn't necessarily bad, but is somewhat unfortunate.

I've never had to read an instruction book to know what I'm doing. The in-game tutorials have always explained the game well enough for me.

I used to read them anyway, though, on the car ride home back when my mom had to buy games for me.

I don't read them because i can figure out controls almost instantly to a game. But there are times in which i have referred to the instruction booklet.

No, because these days they're bloody useless, usually only few pages now and have nothing useful in them.

Welcome to The Escapist, enjoy your stay, be polite and STAY THE HELL OUT OF THE BASEMENT.

I mean it.

Don't even ask why.

Just keep out.

Let's just say I had a nightmare when I picked up a game and there was no instruction manual. I think it's my fear of Digital Distribution finally taking over my subconscious. That's the only reason to explain it...

Why do I fear it? Maybe that's too strong of a word... I just don't want it... yet. Not unless I get a scratch 'n sniff that smells like a new box being opened.

EDIT:
My, I don't believe I answered you question specifically and may have accidentally started a derailment. My apologies.

Yes, I read them. They generally have pretty pictures I like to look at.

Yes, if they have one. I pick up the game, either in person or online, then I read the manual as it downloads/installs or as I get home. It is just my way.

Depends on The Game, for a game I'm a fanboy of (Halo, Mass Effect, Assassins Creed) I'll read through it, if it's a game I'm unfamiliar with I'll look at the controller buttons...

When I was a little tike, I used to love reading the manual for the game I just got on the car ride home from the game shop, but now I hardly ever take them out of the box.

I read them on the bus ride home. Then they probably never get read again. Then I complain that the controls are counterintuitive.

This. Little sister used to think it was funny. Now she reads them too. Plus they occasionally have a cool little hint or joke.

Yes. It's good to brush up on controls, and they usually have backstory in them.
