Do you still watch Extra Credits?

When it was on The Escapist I watched it occasionally, more because it was there than anything else. After they left however (and after that whole mess I still know practically nothing about ended), I promptly forgot about them. I mean no disrespect, but I never really found the show interesting enough to go out of my way to watch it.

Just kidding Saucycarpdog.

OT: Nope, I watch The Jimquisition myself. I get some humor and great views without any pretentious gits making my ears bleed.

Yeah I still tune in, mainly for the episodes where they talk about game industry insider type stuff, and how to get into said industry.

Now and then. I tend to forget it for a couple of months as I don't follow PA, then go back and do a catch up.

I enjoy Extra Credits. I think they do/did a lot of good in making some ways of looking at gaming more accessible, but they do seem to go through phases of being a little too self important. Still, it's good that they're there.

What's this, like the 3rd time this thread has come up now? And yes, I do still watch it. I listen to the podcast and occasionally post in their forums too.

I still find it interesting, so I keep watching.

No, I remember watching their programming episode after it was linked on a game development forum and just finding it awful and poorly researched.
Poorly researched? Just curious, since I have very little education on a lot of their topics - what have they been wrong about?

From what I remember of the episode they recommended using Flash to get started, which is a dying technology. It's a long time ago that I saw it, but from what I remember I got annoyed as it was a very content-free episode with information anyone could find from google, and they clearly skirted round the actual issue of how a game works internally. I suppose as none of them are actually developers that's ok, but I expected a bit better.

Also, the intro song really annoys me now, along with the voice.

Yep, I watch it every week. It was about 60% of the draw the Escapist had for me.
Also, whilst I do think they are very perceptive I would say it's not as good as it used to be. I'm not saying they got worse when they left the Escapist, it's just that they have sort of exhausted the big meaty topics that they were well schooled in and are now focussing on more specifics.

I still consider Extra Creditz to be the most entertaining and informative game commentary show on the internet. Even when they talk about a topic that they aren't particularly educated on, they always succeed at being able to make you think by asking the right questions.

And I hate when people call them pretentious. Just because a group explores something in a serious tone without irony people tear it apart. Why is taking something serious considered pretentious? I get tired of people writing articles or talking about things and constantly undermining themselves with lame attempts at humour in order to avoid being called stuck-up.

But yeah I'd much rather watch The Jimquisition. You get the same analysis of the industry without the pretentiousness and some actual humour.
Really? I don't mean to be calling you out aggressively but I find it shocking that anyone perceives Jim Sterling as even remotely insightful or amusing.

I'm not exactly in a minority with that opinion, at least not on this forum. Just saying. I know that doesn't mean my opinion is any more valid but I could say the same about your opinion. Because that's all they are.

Agreed.

OT: I still watch EC because it makes me think about gaming in a way that I otherwise wouldn't.

We've had this thread a fair number of times now.

Anyway, no. I mainly used to watch them for something to rage at, but after they left it was less convenient and not worth it.

I dislike them because they tend to present opinion as if it were fact. On top of that, I feel their quality writing and production suckers many people into believing the point they present without any critical thinking.

Oh of course, sorry, I was expressing incredulity, I didn't mean to challenge your right to have an opinion or whatevs...

I guess popular opinion has changed. Maybe Jim got better. But I gave him a chance by watching the first 6 or so episodes and I remember them all being filled with "insights" that other journalists had pointed out more eloquently months ago and attempts at humour that were barely above the caliber of your average youtube vlogger. Maybe I was overly-negative because I missed Lisa Foiles' top five.
People seemed to dislike him then and I haven't really been paying attention since. I guess I'll give him another go.

Fair enough. He's a lot better than he was though. He took a lot of the criticism he got on board and upped his game. He's far better now than what he was originally, cause yeah he was pretty poor at first.

Pretentious arseholes.
The high pitched voice doesn't do it for you?
The voice makes me want to rip me ears off.
Maybe it's my ears but I don't think James had that bad of voice. Sure it was higher-pitched than some but that doesn't make him justin Beiber bad.

No, I liked their episodes when they actually provided useful information about how things worked in the video game industry. I guess it was inevitable that they would run out on topics in regards to that and thus they've turned to more opinion based videos. Those, imo, are really bad.
