Do you take yahtzee's reviews with a grain of salt?

Yahtzee's reviews focus on bad points of the games. Even though he exagerates for the sake of being funny, I find them informative on that aspect.
I find his reviews extremely funny, but I always keep in mind he's biased a lot of times, and I would never judge a game based on his opinions alone.

I take his reviews with as many grains of salt as I take any professional reviews sites scores. 10/10's are handed out far too often by them. (So this 10/10 game is perfect in every way and has no room for improvement does it? Bullshit.)

The reviews themselves are a bit overblown and nitpicky, but I do agree with his criticisms of the industry as a whole. I tend to think of Zero Punctuation more as entertainment than a real review. Extra Punctuation is always a good read.

I still listen to his reviews because it's things in the game that bugged him (and might very well bug me). If I've been paying any attention to the game he's talking about, I already know the basics, and thus his reviews provide important little details more than anything else.

Sometimes the stuff he complains about isn't a problem for me, sometimes it's a deal-breaker. But he more often than not hits on the little details no one else seems to mention.

Suddenly everybody has on their polite pants.

I think the guy's freaking hilarious, and quite smart (I might say "Roger Ebert for Videogames," but that makes a few assumptions regarding his actual enthusiasm for the medium and the grace with which he'll grow old.). And you're all right to say that it's wrong to call them reviews. It literally is. He says over and over that he isn't a reviewer, he's a critic. So they're critiques.

My answer to the question then is no. I don't take yahtzee's recommendation with a grain of salt. I don't take it at all. Most of the games he reviews are the multiple-A titles that skip right off my list because I can't afford them. And he has an affection for FPS that I can't understand the same way he can't understand why I like waiting my turn to use an over-designed under-powered spell it took my 15 hours to learn.

No, I take them as the absolute truth. Infact, I have written down his gaming words of wisdom into a bible form, which I keep next to my photo of him, in the woods, under my shrine to Yahtzee - surrounded by the limp, rotting bodies of the squirrels I sacrificed last wednesday in a bid to please the almighty review God.

The thing about his reviews aren't that they're supposed to be taken all that seriously. He's making them to entertain and inform at the same time. That his opinions differ from the popular crowd isn't that uncommon. When I look at metacritics on Bioshock that game has been getting awesome reviews, but I didn't like it that much. He plays games and reviews them and he's got some striking comments on them, though I disagree on the quality on some games he's got lots of valid points in them. If there is something bad about the game he'll mention it with no doubt, even if it is a game he likes. I never decide to buy or not buy a game because of his reviews, but they do give me some pointers if I am considering it.

I've played enough games he's hated and loved them to stop taking him seriously as a reviewer, and I don't find him funny anymore either (his arrogance is taking over) so I've stopped watching him entirely.

So I basically take his reviews with the whole of the Dead Sea.
I thought I told you, you don't get an opinion and I see what you did there (dead sea reference) also I hate that guy, he bashes every game I love (well not ALL games but yeah)

To be fair, he does exaggarate for the sake for the comedy and does actually review them. But I do get somewhat interested in a game that he does like. A game that he does like might be good.

Seeing how he can't positively review a game any more without people complaining, no you really can't take his reviews seriously. That being said I still watch his reviews.

The same can be said about any review. You can't please eveyone. That's why sega quit trying to please the sonic fanbase.

Everyone has their own taste in games. I just watch it mostly for the humor and doesn't really discourage me from buying a game. Although if he says a game is good then I will most likely try it out. Also remember he is a critic, he is meant to point out the bad things in the game. Great fun to watch though.
