To all those who say he's a critic not a reviewer, whether true or not, you DO realise it's an insult don't you?

Reviewers evaluate something in a way that has to communicate it's pro's & con's to EVERYBODY!, not an easy feat.

Critics are 9 times out of 10 uncreative slime bitching on the backs of others REAL work.

It really does seem to be sometimes. I still find him sort of funny, but I guess I've kind of gotten too used to his humour. I still tune in weekly though.

I enjoy watching him work, but I'm always skeptical of his opinion on a game. He denounced Mirrors Edge as an unplayable steaming pile, and I absolutely loved it. (I got the impression that he disliked it cause he was bad at it, and I loved it because I got more out of it than the game may typically offer.) I always take reviews as opinion, and even though Yahtzee considers himself more of a critic than a reviewer, I see the trend he has established, and reserve judgment on a game until I play it.

I pretty much agree with everything he says, but still enjoy games that he blasts. I usually view his negative comments as nitpicky (though true)

I never took him seriously, it worries me that some people on here actually base their purchasing decisions based upon them, he is making reviews for a laugh, he never makes any real points against them and half the time he contradicts himself.

I've played enough games he's hated and loved them to stop taking him seriously as a reviewer, and I don't find him funny anymore either (his arrogance is taking over) so I've stopped watching him entirely.

So I basically take his reviews with the whole of the Dead Sea.
Except the not watching part: This. The next review is up in 15 mins and it's probably Bioshock 2, and I am willing to bet I shall disagree with every word he says.

He's negative, he's funny, and most importantly, he's right a good amount; what's not to like?

I can disagree with him on things like the mediocrity of Halo, but agree on plenty of other points. So no, I read his reviews first as serious review with bits of humor, then at any point afterward when I see one I think of it as humor with bits of a serious review.

Yahtzee himself says to not use his reviews as as the gospel truth. That being said, if he likes a game, it usually makes me interested in hit. I bought the first Left 4 Dead solely off his recommendation.

I bought The Conduit before and after his review. No regrets. I loved the Smash Bros Brawl review because it was hilarious and I'm a huge fan of Brawl. His Wii reviews are just bad. So..no I don't listen to him.
You bought The Conduit twice?
Once. Still own it.

his review are meant to be funny. And I enjoy him ripping games apart just because he makes some valid points. Yes sometimes he can be a little over the top but overall he makes valid points not only about the game but about fanboys and the like e.g. COD review.

......... hope he won't be to mean to FF13..........

Don't really think that they count as 'reviews' but that depends on how you mean review. Yeah OK, he is talking about his experiences and looking back at what he liked and disliked about the title, but he isn't doing it in a way to try and influence our opinion or provide guidance of whether or not to buy a game.

He pretty much just takes the game and looks for faults.

How much credibility can you give a guy that thought Saint's Row 2 was the best game of '08...0o

I still do find a lot of his criticism accurate in my book though.

I think he already has, I'm guessing he'll break his rule of not playing JRPGs just to rag on that game....lol

Up to about his 100th video his reviews were pretty much what I thought but in funnier. Nowadays he seems to only focus on the bad points so I just watch him for entertainment value, though for the most part still agree but don't dislike the games to the extent he does.

Yahtzee waffles but he's fairly consistant in his opinions, of course those opinions generally mean that very few games will hit his standards.

Most of what he actually chooses to pick on is funny because anyone familiar with the game will know it's true for the most part.

That said being an RPG fan I disagree with a lot of his overall conclusions and things he considered to be flaws I consider to be advantages in many cases.

I guess he's not bad as a critic overall, and he's very funny.

It should be noted that when it comes to the type of game he likes, I often agree with his "picks" when it comes to my visits to the action genere. For example I think both "Saint's Row 2" and "Batman: Arkham Asylum" are absolutly awesome games, even if neither is my genere of choice.

Well, you can take Yahtzee's reviews as a piece of comedy that is not supposed to be taken seriously. Although, we can't deny he makes very valid points in a memorable way about the worst aspects of a game.

Few videogame reviewers can influence an audience so much when going to buy a videogame, but as he says, it's all his personal opinion. If he doesn't like a game and you do, his opinion shouldn't get to you. I say take Yahtzee's reviews as they come, not always seriously nor always as a joke.

Absolutely. I greatly enjoy his cynical sense of humor, and I find he makes a lot of valid points, but, as he himself has said, he's a critic. His job is to find every little superficial flaw in a game and expose it to the light.

If I'm really looking forward to a game, I just skip that review and then watch it post-gameplay to laugh at all the little niggling annoyances that bothered me during the action.

I find it to be quality entertainment more than an unbiased review source.
