Of course, you can't think half of the things he says are actually 100% true. Not trying to discredit him, but sometimes he goes over the edge. It is his job to be outstandingly obnoxious, but he is pretty funny when he reviews a bad game like Metroid Other M.

As Yahtzee once said in his SSBB reaction video: "But I'm a critic, it would be weird if I didn't, if I put peoples balls in my mouth for a living I would be a prostitute, or a Gamespot employee...."

All you have to do is watch an older review of a game you've already played and liked! Its all just his personal opinion but its most funny when he points out something you noticed in a game you liked!

I find that Yahtzee tends to take a his real view of a game and skew it to the extreme for comedy's sake. He reviews every game like it's an entrant in the "Next Big Thing Competition '97" because, every now and then, they are. But if he just judged a game on it's own merits it would be two things: A) Not Funny; and 2) The same as every other review of a game. Ever.
I agree with this. I often find him tearing games I like to shreds with his cynical reviews, but I still love watching Zero Punctuation (it's a nice comedic pick-me-up if I'm feeling down). That's the thing about satire, it's goal is to aggravate you from time to time just for the sake of comedy, or else it just gets stale; some people like it, some don't. Although I do have to wonder if Yahtzee expresses his true feelings about all his reviews, or if he's often covering up for how much he liked many of them for the sake of his job. He said something along the lines of "being nice isn't funny, so I'll skip to why I dislike [insert game here]," in one of his earliest reviews, which leads me to believe it's the latter.

No, I don't take anything he says with a grain of salt.
I take it as he says it.
And the things he says are just his opinion.

I've always regarded Yahtzee's reviews as the Ill Will Press of game reviews .
yeah but most of the time Foamy is right
Ha ha ha ha! Yahtzee as the Foamy of the Escapist! *wipes away tears of laughter*
That was an interesting comparison and maybe not too far off.

But, yes, I take his reviews with a tablespoon of salt. Yet I can trust him to tell the truth. I've seen G4 praise a game one month and complain about it the next. Same with Game Informer and other magazines. With Yahtzee, I can read between the lines and judge whether or not I'd like the game he's reviewing. And that is worth a lot to me.

I take his reviews with more salt than I can eat, and I once ate a heaping bowl of salt.

I love games he hates, for example.

I think he's brilliant. He brings up so many valid points while being hilarious at the same time. The only reason I came to the escapist is because I heard of him. He would never make me hate a video game, nor want to buy one but I watch his reviews for comedic value and yes I take them with a grain of salt.

This may sound a bit weird but, its always the gameplay features which he says are bad that make me want to buy the game. I dunno, i guess im just weird that way.

Either way i watch his reviews just because they sometimes make me laugh, not because i intend to take his advice to heart :)

To me he's intended as comedy. I have noticed that he tends to be 100% correct in his reviews of many games, which makes me more likely to trust him over other reviewers. Though, with all games, I buy games based on if I think they're gonna be good or not. I don't let what one person says influence my decision on a game before I've played it.

I find his videos to be about 70% legitimate critisism, 20% overthinking and 5% praise where it's due, all wrapped up in the guise of comedy to sell the opinion to the viewer. His reviews really aren't any less relevent than any other reviewer's, they just have a differnt focus and bias.

I have actually bought a game bassed off one of his review -Dark Void (at bargin bin prices).
