I actually pissed off a guy once on mic when I was playing Halo. My brother was wanting me to try the multiplayer, since he had just gotten it, and I was in a Oh well, why not phase. My previous experience being more in the RPG/Puzzle Solving adventure type thing.

At first, I was horrible. But by the third round, I started kicking some butt a bit, talking on microphone on it. My voice is clearly girlish, and I had a tendency to giggle if i killed someone.

This one guy thats a friend of my bro kept making a point of saying how i was never gonna be a good gamer and shit, while his other friends were pretty accepting. During that third round, i kept finding that same guy. And shooting him. And giggling.

He went into this t rex type roaring phase, about how he was gonna kill me then teabag me and whatever, but he never got a shot on me again. XD after 2 more rounds of that, he left.

No one else was upset when i killed them, btw. And thats the thing. There will always be some idiot nutjob that chooses to play multiplayer while being incredibly sexist. Just like there are all sorts of idiots in gaming. I believe girls can be good depending on the game, and i have no problem with either. And neither does most of my friends, or my brother's.

You just have to shoot down the occasional Jerk.

My English teacher from last year has a tendency to kick peoples' asses on XBL, so at least women can be good gamers. (30 something can't exactly be called a "girl" now can it?)

Girls are and can be just as good but the rate they learn specific types of game, or the genres of games they prefer, are influenced by gender. Partially. How much I don't know.

We've evolved to be better at different tasks, men hunted, females gathered, so naturally our brains are slightly different, but not different enough to mean that a female couldnt perform just aswell as any man could, at a "male orientated" task and vice versa. Such is the advantage of being human.

I think they could be as good gamers as men.
They just aren't.
Don't ask me why, cause I don't know.
They just aren't.

Do note that when I say this I'm talking about top level professional gamers.

Being a girl myself I'd like to be classed as a decent gamer. I don't play COD, or mass effect or any of those kinds of games. I'm more of an RPG based player (if any of you have read my posts before you could gather I hate online play)

But do you consider girls good gamers?
Do you think they are as good as boys?
Do you mind facing a girl online?

I was online once and I was playing L4D some boy was playing with me and as soon as he saw I was a girl he left the party sent me a message saying "I don't want to play with you cause you're a girl"
In chat speak mind.

Judged on my sex, yet again.
Well, I've played with the same people on X-box live for a lot of years now. The majority of them are guys but there's a few girls in the group as well. We mainly tended to stick to playing Gears of War 1 and quite often the female players would be kicking as much arse as the rest of us guys, however I don't really think gender had anything to do with it. I mean everyone has good games and bad games, there's probably a lot of games you'd dominate me on leaving me crying in a corner and then there's games where I'd massacre you and kick your corpse around like a football.

However from my experience on X-box live and all the people, mainly the teenage males and little kids, they're all pretty negative towards female gamers, usually being rather abusive, I don't understand why, maybe it's the hormones or something, that or they feel the need to be some generic picture of masculinity being the one who has to rescue the Damsel in Distress or something like that. Then again I do really love sticking my little sister on the headset whilst I run around Gears slaughtering the masses and listening to them hurl abuse and be genuinely confused as to why a small girl is killing them all...

Or in short, girl gamers are perfectly equal to men, men just don't like to admit it.

To answer your question, I don't think anyone, male or female, is a good or bad gamer based on their gender. I've played against plenty of girl gamers who've kicked my butt just as much if not more so than guys I've played with. Really it depends on the person.

And no I don't mind facing a girl online, or more accurately, I don't mind facing anyone who's there to have fun and enjoy the game as long as they aren't hacking or being and obnoxious asshole (as it sounds like the tool you were playing L4D was).

Yes/No.

Both.
Neither.
Gender has nothing to do with it. Not the slightest bit. Simple as that.

considering girls TEND towards better intelligence than guys and gaming is reflex, memorization, and ingenuity two out of three of which are directly related to intelligence girls SHOULD be better than guys

but it really comes down to interest levels more than anything
you won't get good if you don't play enough to make up for lack of being a genius and you won't play if you don't like the game excluding game critics who get paid to play games

But do you consider girls good gamers? I'm sure some of them are.
Do you think they are as good as boys? They can be.
Do you mind facing a girl online? Why would I?

There isn't any real difference based on gender here, games don't require you to lift heavy objects to birth children so it doesn't really matter.

Easy enough, and as for L4D my sister is great at that game. What I avoid is little kids. They never know what they're doing and chatter constantly and then they whine and whine after you beat them at Street Fighter 4 times in a row. So annoying.

Do I think girls are good gamers? No.

Do I think a girl can be a good/great gamer? Yes.

Just like I wouldn't believe boys are good gamers.

When it comes down to gaming skill, I'm gone to say it's the person and not the gender.

One of my clanmates online is a girl, and she tends to kick the shit out of the other team more than half the time, and this is in any shooter we play, be it MW2, black ops, halo, bad company 2, etc. It honestly makes me smile when i hear someone on the other team crying about losing then crying more when they realize the person that stomped their asses inside out was a girl. That and shes pretty hot too which makes her a dream girl for a nerd like me i suppose.

*Pokes with cattleprod* You call yourself an RPG player and yet you haven't played Mass Effect!? Bad girl gamer! Bad!

OT: Joking aside, anyone who think sex as any impact on how well your hands can react to button pressing based on visual input from a screen is quite the stupendously stupid twat donkey.

Anyone can be a good gamer, unless they're missing an arm.

I don't believe in gender roles in any form

Depends on the girl.
There's more crappy male gamers than there is female gamers.

Some of the best players I know are girls, topping the leaderboards all the time. That being said, there are less girls who play games than boys.

It really depends, I believe that female gamers are just as good as male gamers but that there is less female gamers in general which naturally makes less good girl gamers.

i dont think being a girl has anything to do making somebody a good gamer or a bad gamer. it just so happens that girls tend to not spend as much of their time devoted to gaming and as such there is an uneven ratio of girl gamer skill to guy gamer skill. its socially acceptable for guys to veg-out on games but girls are suppose to be chatting with their frends, texting, or some crap like that

gaming is a hard place to get into as a girl; there is sexism, cruelty (it comes with the territory of being anonymous), social issues, a male dominant market, douchebags hitting on every girl... its hard for women to get into gaming because all it takes is one negative issue to cross her path and for her to take it the wrong way and she holds a grudge on the industry and never tries to crack its shell again
