I really can't believe this thread is still going.
Why not? It has "Girl" and "Gaming" in it. The girls flock to it to tell the world they have a pair of fleshy balls tacked to their chest (much like the OP did in the first line she wrote), and the guys ... well, they are drawn in by it.

I am surprised by the lack of anecdotes of how these vulnerable female creatures were abused online after the first page though. Pleasantly surprised, since it makes me sick to think girls believe they get more abuse than anyone else and can claim themselves to be damsels in distress.

... and it makes no difference of what gender you are when playing. It is practice, a hint of talent at times and good reflexes (which are not exclusive to the male genes) that give one gamer the edge over another gamer.

I wish more girls would play video games, it would give me someone else to talk to on xbox live other than the idiotic frat boy and the swearing 12 year old stereotypes that thoroughly exist throughout all of multiplayer.

As for their gaming skill, I don't see a reason why they would be worse.

Gender makes no difference to me. Heck, skill level or age doesn't really matter most of the time to me. Dick level is what matters.
hallelujah, can I get an AMEN!?!

Okay, Amen.

OT: I wouldn't mind whether my team mates were boys or girls. I can't say about playing against girls as it's not often broadcast to everyone on the team (even HALO: Reach's body system isn't a useful guide as some of my friends prefer to use the female one for the 'less stupidly beefy' shoulders). Relating to skill... Guess it depends on how long you've been playing for. I know girls with round 30 on 'Five', and some who do the 'rotate on the spot shooting until your ammo runs out' in HALO.

Same as boys, I don't care what makeup my team has whilst girls I know seem to have the same average skill level as boys I know.

If gender was a factor then I wouldn't know having never met or seen a female gamer. A gamer should not be judged on the game they play or their gender.

I've met just as many girl gamers as guy gamers, who are just as good. I don't see what the difference is. We're all gamers, so what is this sexism?

Being male or female has absolutely no effect what so ever on your ability to play a video game. He was just being an immature little twat, it happens alot online.
Came here to say this, so I'll just second it. I got a Text Secret (Like this, but person to person via the Post Secret FB page or forum [http://textsecret.net/]) about something very similar, and honestly, these are the growing pains of a group used to the "40 year-old living in his mom's basement eating Cheetos drinking Mountain Dew and talking to his limited-edition action figures" stereotype, and it's sister "Like, I started playing Farmville when my boyfriend is on Call of Duty, and I don't know what these buttons do?"

We all need to mature and accept that not only are more women getting into games, but that this is a good thing that should be encouraged!

simply put: yes, they can easilly be.
if, they have the knack for it, ( e.g. they REALY just like it, and thus find it fun, and thus try to figure out how it works etc. )
though the vast majority... NO. give the vast majority of girls a controller and they cant even walk and look around at the same time ( i could not get my head around it, but apearantly, that actually takes effort, wut>? @ 2 joysticks )
my GF though, and some other girls i know, awsome ^^

But have you ever seen any female body builders? Highly, highly unattractive and a tad scary if you ask me. Why a woman would ever want to take that career is beyond me.
Little off subject but I thought I'd throw my two pence in.
Yeah, I can't imagine why anyone would want to do something that makes them feel good about themselves when it makes them physically unattractive.

OT: Some are good and some suck, just like male gamers.

if they dress provocatively it'll surely put me at a disadvantage, but so far one hasn't beaten me

Yes, I know some girls that are good at games.

I don't know how to say this without sounding sexist, but they do take longer to learn at first imo. Like if you hand a controller to a male who has never played a game before and a female who also hasn't the guy will generally pick it up faster from what I've seen.

My best friend is pretty good at games. She can play Halo pretty well, but that's the only game she plays apart from The Sims, Just Dance and Guitar Hero.

One of my best friends is a girl and she's damn good at video games, and she's not the only one. I've met several girls who are damn good at fighting games and racing games. If someone doesn't want to play a game with you because you're a girl, that's their problem.

Being a girl myself I'd like to be classed as a decent gamer. I don't play COD, or mass effect or any of those kinds of games. I'm more of an RPG based player (if any of you have read my posts before you could gather I hate online play)

But do you consider girls good gamers?
Do you think they are as good as boys?
Do you mind facing a girl online?

I was online once and I was playing L4D some boy was playing with me and as soon as he saw I was a girl he left the party sent me a message saying "I don't want to play with you cause you're a girl"
In chat speak mind.

Judged on my sex, yet again.
Girls can be good gamers it all really runs on a case by case basis, but often they know how to play better than some of the bratty little 12 year olds and the moronic older guys.
Again case by case 1 girl may own everyone, another may get lucky and other may consistenlly come in last
Not in the least....hell most of the time I don't know even know the gender of those Im playing with cause Im 9 times out of 10 in an XBoxlive Party with my friends....unless the game/game moide requires a fair amount of team work and or cooperation(Zombies in COD)

Yes. And everyone knows that girls have cooties.

/sarcasm

Being a boy or girl is irrelevant to how good your are at video games. I'm a male and I suck at video games. I love them, but I've had plenty of experiences looking at the "Game Over" screen. I'm also into RPGs and Strategy.

Anywho, I wouldn't get discouraged about people judging you solely because of your gender. Trolls come to us in all ages as well.

Ive met many of the fairer sex who play games. I even marryed one.

But past naked rockband, a single one has never bested me. Yes, there are good girl gamers out there, but i cant say they were anything more then that.

See, theres good, and then theres, "HARDCORE FACE WRECKAGE" type gamers, like me. People who average 2/1 KDs or better every match. Players who can do both casual and hardcore games with ease. People who cant explain the controls to you, because they arnt holding the controller.

Summary: Yes, there are good female gamers. But i have yet to meat a women who is anything better then "good" at games.

P.S. Allow me to formally apologize ahead of time if this post offends any female readers. I do not think women are less then men, i just belive they subconsiously dont try as hard.

I am yet to meet a female gamer and am still under the old belief that they are a total myth created to make nerdy males feel better about themselves. :)

BUT... on a serious note. I don't see why they can't be. There no real element to gaming where males have any distinct advantage, (apart from an obvious blood-lust which the majority of females seem to roll their eyes at.) In fact, I'd say a key aspect to gaming is patience, which (if we're going to stereotype here) females have far superior levels of.

Of course. Whenever you go to shoot something, your uterus must just fuck up your aim.

More seriously, this is a pretty silly topic. Can we please stop making threads like this and disguising them as questions? Be honest, you're not asking for people's opinions on this because you don't know the answer or because you don't know what they'll say. This isn't some new topic that's never come up before, nor is it some great quandary. In reality, this thread exists because something happened to you, it made you unhappy, and you wanted to broadcast it to people so that people can post in support of the extremely clear implicit view in your post or they can post against it so you can watch them get torn down.

Also you can all feel cool while repeating the "there are no girls on the internet" bullshit or going on about how "I don't think female gamers actually exist". Good job making things more welcoming and building the community. Very mature.

Edit: That came across a little harsher than I intended, but the question is just so unbelievably silly. The overwhelming majority of people are going to say that most girls aren't good competitive gamers because there are very few female gamers to begin with and, due to the male bias of the industry, most competitive games cater to a male audience. At the same time, no one is really going to suggest that girls can't be good gamers, because then they just look like a jackass (and rightfully so).

It depends on the girl. My wife is horribly bad at video games, she can't control 2 thumbsticks at once. This leads to her running around in circles in Splinter Cell while I'm lying on the floor bleeding to death 10 feet away, and all the time she's HONESTLY trying her best to find me.

However, my friend Laura kicks my head in at most games.
