Do you think girls are good gamers?

I've known many good female gamers in my day.

And really, it's not like men have some kind of biologically-tuned attribute that makes us better gamers. Really, it's the same thing that works with pretty much everything in everyday life.

If a woman played the same video game as much as a man did, they would likely be extremely close in skill level. The only reason why most people may find it difficult to acknowledge women gamers is because the ones you know just don't play them as often as most guys do.

To me, it's just like saying "no man could be as good as a woman at shopping" or "no woman could be as good as a man at hunting". I'm sure a great stereotype for superiority would be sports, but I wouldn't DARE tell a Canadian woman she couldn't play hockey as well as a Canadian man. I've seen them play, and I swear there's no difference between male and female Canadian hockey.

what the hell kind of question is this? were you hoping to provide men with a forum to make their sexist comments, or is this a serious question? in any case, im quite certain your gaming skill is not determined by your chromosomes.

Don't know if this counts, but I got my ass kicked by my freinds little sister in Little Big Planet. She is around 11-12 and I am 19.
Just saying...
(And to all trolls out there.Yes, Little big planet counts as a game.)

I'm 23 years old, female, and I've been gaming pretty much my whole life. Do I consider myself good? Haha I'd like to think so, but like everyone else out there I've got my strengths and weaknesses. I don't think girls are any better at games than guys, or vice verser. It's more of an individual thing. How often the person (gender does not matter) plays said game and how much time they put into it counts for a lot. I play a lot of FPS (Borderlands, Unreal Tournament, etc), but I used be big on RPGs (not so much now. WHY IS THAT. D:). Because of this I schooled my (now ex) boyfriend in a Halo Deathmatch, simply because while he had played more Halo, I had played more shooters.

To answer your questions: Yes, I think some girls can be good gamers, but not because they're girls. I think they CAN BE as good as boys, but again, gender doesn't really have anything to do with skill. And I like co-op with girls!

In regards to the little bint who dropped the game and send you "OMG U GARL" mail, punch him in the nit! Okay, kidding, but it's a nice thought isn't it. While I wouldn't mind doing so, I tend to avoid online gaming with people I don't know, simply because I've heard too many stories of "TITS OR GTFO" and attitude shifts once they discover you're a girl. Not to say ALL online gamers are uncool dweebs, but the ones that are leave a bad enough impression to create a generalization.

A generalization within a generalization. Imma go watch me some Inception. XD

Being male or female has absolutely no effect what so ever on your ability to play a video game. He was just being an immature little twat, it happens alot online.
This. This a thousand times. Judging gaming ability based on sex would be like judging gaming talent based on race, hair color, or height.

Games are about reflexes, hand-eye co-ordination and logic, which - unlike raw strength or tits - don't differentiate between gender.

So yes, I do.

True.
But have you ever seen any female body builders? Highly, highly unattractive and a tad scary if you ask me. Why a woman would ever want to take that career is beyond me.

Sorry, I just had to.

OT: To me, the term gamer has always been uni-sex, which I guess is as good an answer as any.

Gender really, for me, does not, and should not come into play with the skill of a gamer, it comes with experience of the gamer . As a girl gamer myself I've played a majority of different games and I have different levels of skills in each, i.e I'm pretty good ( in my own opinion) at RTS and games such like Fallout/ Mass effect, though hand me COD and I'll died very very quickly. But that's because I just don't play it there don't have any experience in it.

It very irritating when I do play online with boys, or comment on videos as a girl gamer how frequently i get put down as a bad gamer ( i've been told that i should even be playing games) because of my gender. I'd like to point out that I know this doesn't apply to all male gamer, and girls can be just as judgemental ( I was the only girl and gamer in my media class last year, and i got loads of looks off the other girls). I do hope that this attitude about games and gender with change for the better :) (ps: sorry for any grammar or spelling mistakes!)

I know of quite a few girl gamers (one of them being my girlfriend), and none of them are really good at what they do. Well, if you count Singstar as a game, than I have two girlfriends who are better at it than anyone else.

Most girls I know are through WoW, and they either player healers and are moderately successful or they play as a hunter and are mediocre.

My girlfriend plays a rogue and she is terrible at it, I tried helping her out with some tips, but she is stubborn as ever.

My friend's fiancée gets a lot of shit thrown at her for being a girl who plays Call of Duty: Black Ops and is pretty good at it. Pisses me off because she's a really nice person. Especially good at zombies, so we get her in whenever she's free :)

Sex doesn't decide if your good at anything period.

What does make you a good Gamer is Dedication and Natural Talent which knows no gender. A woman may kick so much more ass then any guy in a game simply because she has the drive to show them up where as men have no such drive because they aren't discriminated against. i have natural talent for games simply because i have a super logical mind but i only play a game for fun so im above average at best where as a women who sucks with anything electronic may be better than me simply because she is tired of the anti social jackwagons and wants nothing less but to show them up in their own game.

and besides haven't we learn as men that you don't piss off a woman because she can take what you dish out and throw ten times more back at you and look good doing it. there i said it and if you want my man card.... COME AT ME BRO!!!

Anyone who I can actually confirm is female on xbox live (they have a mic and talk) usually isn't very good at the game, or they just aren't trying. Usually, they're just there to have a good time instead of compete.

That's not a bad thing, but I have to admit that I've yet to run across a truly competitive girl gamer who kicked my ass in an online FPS.

It's the same way that there are guys who are terrible gamers, it's unfair to judge based on gender rather than skill.

Having said that as a 20something white male, i've ben playing video games most my life whereas most (not all) girls my age tend to be fairly new to gaming or at least didn't start at 3.

But if it's a matter of experience so long as they want to learn they can become fantastic, I'm currently playing through borderlands with my better half and she's saved my ass more than once. Dab hand with a sniper rifle xD

There are good and bad gamers on both genders. Since the ratio of men playing games is higher though naturally it's more likely to find good male gamers. Got nothing to do with genders, it's just simple math.

Being a girl myself I'd like to be classed as a decent gamer. I don't play COD, or mass effect or any of those kinds of games. I'm more of an RPG based player (if any of you have read my posts before you could gather I hate online play)

But do you consider girls good gamers?
Do you think they are as good as boys?
Do you mind facing a girl online?

I was online once and I was playing L4D some boy was playing with me and as soon as he saw I was a girl he left the party sent me a message saying "I don't want to play with you cause you're a girl"
In chat speak mind.

Judged on my sex, yet again.
I only know when I'm playing with girls because either
a) They use voice chat
or
b) Every other player in the server is kissing their ass thinking it will lead to nookie.

Can't say they're any worse or any better.

Although I've never heard a girl shout 'you ******' over the microphone.

you cant classify a gender on a whole as good or bad at something

i know girl gamers that are better than me at playing some games while others are worse than me at the same type of game (tf2 for those interested)

so on a whole it doesnt matter weather the gamer is female/male/osterich whatever, how good they are at playing games is an idividual thing

Just an example, I don't depict the different genders as good or bad at video games, but:
I played Armored Core 4 a lot. I Loved the series, and the skill level required. I lost all motivation to play after consecutively losing 11 matches in a row.

The kicker was that they were all girls. Every single one. (No sexism intended)

Damn you, japan...

I've found it's rarely a factor. Only differences being female gamers have an (understandable) tendency to lie about their gender, and there being less of them, likely a leftover from gender roles and such.

I have actually met quite a few female gamers, in different genres and games even. And as you would expect, they had completely different skill levels. I have found that both competitiveness and experience determine how skilled someone is. I knew a girl who played unreal tournament almost daily but she still wasn't that good because she never really tried to be good at it or win anything. Then there are other girls who play way less, but are determined to kick everyone's ass. There are definitely less of them though, and most good female gamers don't go around shouting their gender either.

Guys are usually more competitive and get more accepted as playing on a competitive level, so they probably do it more and have more experience too. That doesn't mean girls can't become as good at some point, but at this moment most of the best players are male, sadly :(
