strangely, i havent met a female gamer that was on par with my skills in video games.
(Which in it of itself dumbfounds me. I thought women are better at multitasking than men, yet y is it that there are no good Female RTS players? on the competitive lvl that is. )

I have on the other hand met many who can destroy me in games like tetris or bejeweled. So from my own experience Girls can only be great at casual flash type games.

Some are good, some are bad.

Much the same as with guys.

The only reason there aren't so many good female gamers is because there aren't as many women playing games but the percentage is most likely around the same.

I used to go out with a girl who could easily hold her own against me at CS:S and other such games and was probably as good if not slightly better than me at RPGs like Ragnarok.

Generally, they're not as good. That's just because they don't play them though (generally). Girls who actually play a fair bit of video games are bound to turn out better just like guys who do but because most if not ALL guys have played some video games in their life they have better inherant understanding of standard controllers and mechanics.

Basically:
- people who play games > people who don't
- percentage of guys who play games > percentage of girls who play games
- guys IN GENERAL > girls IN GENERAL

I love generalisations.

I remember playing Street Fighter at a party and my ass was handed to me by a girl, and no I'm not a terrible player of Street Fighter, I'm good with Chun-Li but she beat me easily with Dhalsim, and no she didn't spam or cheat or anything she was really good.

Every girl that I've ever played is just as good if not better then me and most of my other male friends. In fact, i knew a girl who beat the crap out of "I jut wanna Rokk" by Freezepop, using an xbox 360 gamepad.

this rule doesnt apply to my mother. She has trouble comprehending the idea of walking in a straight line in halo.

Girl or Boy, whoever plays more is gonna be better at the game.

I think the reason people think girls aren't good gamers, is because there are so few girl gamers compared to male gamers. It is true that a girl with no expirience wouldn't be any good, but the same is true of everyone else in the world.

My ex-girlfriend was a brilliant gamer, and actually quite pro. So yes, I think they can. I just think it's more rare to see good girl gamers. Most of them are just casual. Hardcore good girl gamers.. Well.. I feel it's about as rare as seeing an eclipse.

Look, some genders are just set out to be better at some things. Men have a natural propensity for short bursts of strength, while women have an edge in some types of endurance. Clearly it is not possible to say all men are better than all woman at videogames, but I think it would also be a little silly to say that the stereotype doesn't hold any weight at all.

Being a girl myself I'd like to be classed as a decent gamer. I don't play COD, or mass effect or any of those kinds of games. I'm more of an RPG based player (if any of you have read my posts before you could gather I hate online play)

But do you consider girls good gamers?
Do you think they are as good as boys?
Do you mind facing a girl online?

I was online once and I was playing L4D some boy was playing with me and as soon as he saw I was a girl he left the party sent me a message saying "I don't want to play with you cause you're a girl"
In chat speak mind.

Judged on my sex, yet again.
But Mass Effect is an RPG :.(

Anyway,

Girls run the same gamut guys do. There's some good ones. Some amazing ones, some bad ones, and some annoying ones.

My friend Dani is a pretty decent gamer. She holds her own with the guys when she plays COD, and has routinely thrashed me before.

I have no problem playing with or against a girl whatsoever, so long as they aren't like the guy gamers I dislike (loud and obnoxious.)

Girls are a bit hard to find in gaming in general, but I would be willing to bet thats just because of the number of guys gaming compared to the girls. But there are some great ones out there, and I enjoy playing with them as much as any guy I've played with.

I was playing FFX a while back and was using a brawler team mostly and was stuck on one of the Seymour battles. My girlfriend took the controller without me noticing and proceeded to level up my full team(except for Riku, cause who uses Riku) and then went through the sphere grid to make my Yuna the biggest badass on the team who also recieved the ability "1 mp cost."

....My girlfriend is significantly better than me at RPG's.

However, I'm pretty sure I'm better at shooters that aren't Left 4 Dead.

More on topic, of course girls can be good at games, just like any guy can. Of course, girls can be very bad at video games, just like any guy can. You see, asking whether one gender is 'good at games' is pretty damn stupid. Facts are, some are good, some are not. Gender has nothing to do with it and that should be mildly obvious.

Oh whoa popular thread.
It's because there should be an obvious answer, but some people still insist on following personal experience instead of logic.

I fail to see what gender has to do with the ability to play a video game...but ok

As for the questions:
1) It depends...are they a good gamer?
2) Really couldn't care
3) If I could give a fuck I would..but I don't so I can't.

The guy who left because your female..well fuck him hes an idiot.

Judged on my sex, yet again.
Well.. you do seem to bring it up a lot. In this post you mentioned it three, times...the first one being about as necessary as me mentioning I've got a scar on my left arm from when I cut it open as a kid.
The other two times, yeah fair enough they explain your point, but i guess its just me, I don't see how gender plays a part in online gaming or why people get pissy about the fact they're playing with someone of the opposite sex.

Meh I'm going to go back to my beer.

People leaving the match because of gender issues? I always thought they left if you didn't use some kind of super-korean-uber-tactic, or if you stole their kill.

It depends on the girl. My wife is horribly bad at video games, she can't control 2 thumbsticks at once. This leads to her running around in circles in Splinter Cell while I'm lying on the floor bleeding to death 10 feet away, and all the time she's HONESTLY trying her best to find me.
Ah yes, this is pretty much my experience when playing Splinter Cell with a girl.

I remember countless times rescuing my Comrade playing the incompetent Agent Archer while the mighty Kestrel has had to rescue her by silently eliminating countless enemies standing between the two. It has no relevance that she is female though, she's just more of an action gamer and not trained in the ways of stealth as me, Probably never even played Thief..

Oh look, here she is now..

Agreed. really, these threads are ridiculous, there is no difference between the skill levels of gamers due to gender, and this is in my opinion, pointless discussion, and more often than not a place for certain types of females on the forum to announce that they are girls and draw attention to it.

There are some awesome (tournament winning awesome) female gamers, so plainly girls can be every bit as good as any bloke... I think the issue (if we can call It that) is that most girls have no interest in competitive gaming.
Do I mind gaming with girls? Absolutely not, skill levels may vary but one thing I've always found is that girls are not dicks, which unfortunately is more than can be said for a lot of male gamers.
