1)But do you consider girls good gamers?
2)Do you think they are as good as boys?
3)Do you mind facing a girl online?
1)Of course they are. Every female gamer that I've met has been proficient in their preferred style of games. Some are even better than I, and I classify myself as an above average gamer in about everything I play.

2) Theoretically yes. The only issue here stems from the fact that large percentages of male and female gamers have a tendency to play different games. As you said, you don't play shooters, and prefer RPGs. Well the lions share of guys tend to prefer shooters because it appeals to their male nature. It's not that guys don't play every type of game, we're just more experienced in blowing stuff up.

But once you find opposite genders playing the same game, you find it becomes merely a matter of experience. This is where the stereotype of "girls suck at games" comes from. By the time most girls play the more male-directed games, the male players have gained experience in he game's mechanics, and as such have an advantage over the female player.

So yeah, theoretically equal in terms of skills. Practically not in terms of experience.

3)I love facing a girl online. As girls do tend to think differently about what they experience than guys, it provides a unique perspective that I wouldn't normally see about the game. And as stated before, they're just as capable of kicking my butt up and down the block as any guy gamer I've played. And I do love a challenge.

I haven't met many girls who play games but they are just as good as the guys, there is no problem with them.

So in answer,
Yes they are as good at gaming as others.
Yes, they are as good as us guys, which is to say ability ranges greatly
No I don't mind, more people to game with is a good thing,

I've only really played WOW with girls before however during my 5-6 year experience playing, I can honesty say that some of girls I know are the best players out there.

I was just thinking about this. I remember I was killing time at the arcade several years ago playing Jurassic park 3 (shooter) and this girl hopped into the second player seat and even handed me quarters when I died. She was very very accurate.

Gender doesn't really matter imo. I know a couple of girls who play games and they are really good.

Aaaaand another Girls and gaming thread that exceeds 10 pages thanks to guys trying to impress the opposite sex with fair comments and girls feeling the need to remind us they are girls and they game

...Good Times.

I think girls are good gamers. They're rational, sly and graceful. Adds a nice touch to the community.

Everyone's seen this thread a billion times in different forms, and every time it comes up people spout some sexist nonsense for 50 pages (whether that sexism is direct at men or women), and then back it up with useless anecdotal evidence ("I knew a girl once and she herp a derp derp").

When it comes down to it, asking "are girls good gamers" is just as ridiculous as asking "are boys good gamers". We're not a homogeneous group, nor are we some sort of button-pushing hivemind. We're individuals of varying age, race, sexual orientation, intelligence, and yes - gaming skill.

It's also worth mentioning that game skill isn't something you're born with. It isn't "have or have not". A large part of it depends on the persons familiarity with gaming conventions (for example, the learned skill of reading HUDs) and time spent playing/practicing a certain game. Whether male or female, a person who's logged 150 hours in COD:BO is probably going to be better than someone who's picking up that particular game for the first time, or someone who's never played a shooter of any kind before.

One of the most annoying things female gamers put up with is not necessarily the harassment or the fetishization, but the notion that we are ambassadors for all of female kind.
Win a game? All girls are good at gaming.
Lose a game? All girls are bad at gaming.

It doesn't work like that. Some of us are good, some of us are bad. Some of us have a lot of experience playing games, some of us have just recently gotten into them. Just like gamer dudes.

On a similar thought track, we are also of varying levels of physical attractiveness, just like men. Just because one female gamer is attractive, doesn't mean we all are. Just because one female gamer is unattractive, doesn't mean we all are.

End Thread.
Seriously.

One of my previous girlfriends was more of a gamer than I was, she was in love with Stepmania, Guild Wars, I got her hooked on Diablo 2 muahaha, Assassins Creed was another of her favorites, LittleBigPlanet, Rock Band, Katamari, Xenosaga too, and all of these games she would just murder me at, except Diablo and Rock Band hehehe

Anyway, she was badass, great gamer and a great girl.

I think more girls playing games is great, wish I could meet more on CoD haha.

I think girls are just as good gamers as boys. I've played against so many girls who've destroyed me on loads of games.

Oh whoa popular thread.
It's because there should be an obvious answer, but some people still insist on following personal experience instead of logic.
Actually, I'd warrant it's because a girl started a topic about gaming.

Or.. really, if we use Occam's Razor, a girl started a topic.

(Omitted the 's' in started there at first. Unintentional? You decide.)

(And bugger your sarcasm text, escapist. Sarcasm is not bright pink. If anything it's sort of a smug deep yellow.)

I've always gotten the4 impression that girl gamers try to prove themselves against the boys and often are better gamers. A girl I know could effectively kill me in Halo with nothing but the needler or pistol for an entire round without me ever getting her. Another friend has top scores in Amplitude, Guitar Hero, and Rock Band that I will NEVER beat. And yet another has three 85 Wow toons. These girls work their asses off, and they make sure they rub it in my face that they are a girl and they slaughter.

Girls start topics all the time. People are coming here because its a fairly easy answer that they can shoot off and leave without worrying about getting into an actually engaging discussion.

I'm sure this has been said about 600 times already, but there are good guy gamers, and good girl gamers. The girl ones are just less common. On the other hand, there are a LOT of bad gamers, both male and female.

Being male or female has absolutely no effect what so ever on your ability to play a video game. He was just being an immature little twat, it happens alot online.
Not true, men are genetically better at navigating 3d space. But the difference is fairly minor.

Well not at driving games

OH SNAP!!!!!!

xD j/k everyone on The Escapist; I just needed to tell the joke lololol.

But in all honesty, I know a few gamers who always beat my score in both Tekken and Left 4 Dead, and my sister is the one who taught me a lot in the role playing realm like D&D, so yeah, I believe girls are good, if not equal, gamers. Gender has nothing to do with gaming though in my opinion, it is mental capability to comprehend what you're doing.

Experience and gender are completely unrelated. I can destroy my sister in a FPS but she can utterly dominate me in a street fighter match. So yes, I consider them just as capable of being a good gamer as us men.

Do you think they are as good as boys?
Depends on the person. Historically there are more boys playing than girls but that doesn't mean we're better, that means we are the majority. To repeat myself, I consider them just as capable of being a good gamer as us men.

Do you mind facing a girl online?
Not at all. In fact, they are generally more polite when it comes to chat. However, if the girl gamer in question is a team killer or ignoring the teamwork tactics the rest of us are trying to co-ordinate; I'd call her out on it just like how I would call out a guy on it.

i myself couldn't care less whether a gamer is male or female, chances are, they'd probably still kick my ass online (although i have gotten EXTREMELY rusty) especially if they were my friends. for some reason i've never been able to play competitively against my friends. and a few of the best random players i've ever played with when i used to play online were female, not because they were super skilled, but cause they weren't douches and didn't rage at me if i slipped up and died or something.

overall it tends to be more enjoyable when some prepubescent boy isn't screaming through the mike at you every time you pick up a gun they were probably going to blow a hole in their own face with. or if by chance you die half as many times as they have.
