Ah don't worry about it! We'll be long gone before that!

But all this talk of sun's explodeing, volcanos erupting, terrorism, astroids, 2012 world ending crap just makes me want to get up in the morning and live my life to the fullist makeing sure I do everything I want to do.

The best chance of human extinction probably comes from large asteroids and super-volcanoes. The suns inevitable expansion into a red-giant is so far away that I'm sure we'll have discovered some form of interstellar travel by then.

Oh, and about the guys saying that we'll kill each other, do remember that states that has nukes in their arsenal haven't been at war with each other, ever. People are actually rather rational, and I doubt any world leader would doom his people to destruction. Not even Kim Il Jung or Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

The sun will burn out in 5-6 million years, it will either explode as a supernova or burn off the outer layers until a white dwarf is left. Either way, i dont think we will last 1 million years more.

There are a lot of cynics in this thread, what makes you think that we won't last longer than a million years? Personally I think the future is looking rather bright; Our technology is progressing at an unheard level, there's less violence in the world per capita, than at any previous time, and the internet is making sure that everyone has the chance to see that we're not so different, no matter the country.
Civilization is only about 10.000 years old, and we've already had a man on the moon, imagine what could happen in the next 10.000 years?

In 1700 years from here, we'd have already colonized a massive amount of galaxies.

And in millions and millions of years from here, we'd probably leave before the sun explodes as an evacuation protocol.

And as things seems now, I doubt we'll die before that happens. Humans are far more reasonable than that. Jesus the stupidity of these doom theories...
Give me a break, humans killing everything including themselves?
FOR WHAT?! You don't go out and kill all ants out there for example. Although you have the possibility to do so because you happen to have some walking boots and cans of spray, doesn't necessarily mean that you'll go out and do it.

Same thing with nukes, there's nothing in it for you.

On this planet, yes. Howevever, this won't happen for like 15 billion more years so we should have found another planet to live on by then...assuming we don't blow ourselves up in WWIII first.

Unless we leave the earth and find a different planet, learn how to grow crops or raise livestock without sunlight (or through the fiery inferno that is the sun going kablooey). Then yeah, we probably won't be around after the sun goes.

And I KNOW I'll be dead. So yay for me!

"No. Humans will die out. We're weak. Dinosaurs survived on rotten flesh. You got diarrhea last week from a Wendy's."

Hypothetically, if our race survived to the end of the sun, we'd be able to escape it no problems.

Realistically, we'll all be dead within a century. Human stupidity is rapidly approaching critical mass.

Oh yes. By that time, we will have either been exterminated (by Reapers or ourselves) or spread through the universe, possibly to many galaxies.

Six.

Billion.

Years.

That's millions of times longer than our species has even existed. Wouldn't surprise me if we'll have the technology to stop the sun from dying.

A teacher I once had asked a class about what they would do if the sun dies.
A female student answered that everyone will live in caves underground, and they would buy their food from the supermarkets, that somehow has unlimited stocks.

even if humanity don't blow itself up till there, we would need the capability to travel beyond our solar system since the whole thing would be put on darkness
