In 1700 years from here, we'd have already colonized a massive amount of galaxies.

And in millions and millions of years from here, we'd probably leave before the sun explodes as an evacuation protocol.

And as things seems now, I doubt we'll die before that happens. Humans are far more reasonable than that. Jesus the stupidity of these doom theories...
Give me a break, humans killing everything including themselves?
FOR WHAT?! You don't go out and kill all ants out there for example. Although you have the possibility to do so because you happen to have some walking boots and cans of spray, doesn't necessarily mean that you'll go out and do it.

Same thing with nukes, there's nothing in it for you.
I couldn't agree more.. The chance of human mass-extinction is actually quite small when you look at it.

Well assuming that we don't kill each other in a nuclear war for stupid reasons, like "my god is better than yours" I highly doubt than in 6 billion years we are going to be still humans, if we are still alive we would have evolved into something (hopefully) more advanced. Additionally, we are currently living what I like to call "Adolescense of reason" in the sense that collectively we are not a fully developed intelligent species (if we were we would not be killing each other), once we grow up (again as a species, an individual can be smart) we would probably begin the Cosmos exploration.

in the future there is only one certainty, taxes anything else is uncertain we could well be off the planet or we could burn with the earth

The sun will burn out in 5-6 million years, it will either explode as a supernova or burn off the outer layers until a white dwarf is left. Either way, i dont think we will last 1 million years more.
There are a lot of cynics in this thread, what makes you think that we won't last longer than a million years? Personally I think the future is looking rather bright; Our technology is progressing at an unheard level, there's less violence in the world per capita, than at any previous time, and the internet is making sure that everyone has the chance to see that we're not so different, no matter the country.
Civilization is only about 10.000 years old, and we've already had a man on the moon, imagine what could happen in the next 10.000 years?
The 1 million years comes from the fact that most species have a lifetime of around 1 million years give or take. This of course doesn't mean that the species are gone for good often it will just have evolved into another species.

But then again the Sun will last for 4.5 Billion (4.5*10^9) years more and we might have avoided the species lifespan limit and unless we kill each other or get wiped out by a meteor or gamma ray burst we would probably have colonised other planets and probably (over that much time) other star systems.

First off, humanity will most likely end before that happens

Second, not only would humanity end if we survived long enough to see that event, so would everything else.

I agree. By the time this happens we will have perfected space travel. The only question then is, do we win the inevitable war with the aliens?

Well, to this day governments still choose to back stab and conspire against one another. I really don't see a unified Global populace that aims to tackle our problems in the present or the future (Environment, Conflict, Depleted resources). Besides, I don't think the globe can sustain us forever.

Mankind has no chance to live that long. In the best case we still have a few million years.

If it did happen in my life time i wouldn't be complaining. Life has 100% death rate anyway.

im sure it wont end imedently but the only REAL purpose of the sun is to keep the earth from rapidly cooling down and throwing this would into a new ice age

if the sun were to go out i think we would be able to survive for a while with eletric lamps and flash lights

do eventuly the would would get so cold that it gets too cold for eletric currents to run through wires so we would have to start useing candles for light and start hunting for food

basicly an ice age would send us back into the hunting for food era

Probably not, by the time the sun dies we'll all be elsewhere in space, i reckon.

Pssh. We'll be building our own artificial planets by then. And making our own suns. And enslaving alien races. And mastering the Space Jet Pack. In fact, we'll probably just be like the Combine by then. (No, they don't have Space Jet Packs. That's what makes us more awesome then them.)

It's probably been said before, but humanity will either kill itself off long before that happens or it won't have any problems getting off earth by then.

We're slightly useless at getting along, so no worries, we don't have to concern ourselves with planning for that.

Plus, we keep birthing too many people, and no one will do anything about it. We don't even have to kill anyone for it to work too, honest!
