It's a turning point to be honest. If not now, in the next few years it'll be. Music is in danger of becoming pretty stale if you ask me.
While I believe the best era for music was cca 1992 - 2007. What can I say, I'm a sucker for old school emo & post-hardcore bands [mineral, drive like jehu].
There are still some amazing albums coming out, but most of them, are... well, they're good, but nothing that hasn't been heard before. It's hard for something to come out, that blows you away, because it's something previously unheard. Consider electronic music, the whole thing was pushed so far, that you've basically covered most of it, from techno to dnb, to idm considering rhythms and from ambient to noise. Lately everything has been a rehash of what's been made before. Some odd combos here and there. But nothing spectacular.
The problem with saying the best music is now, is that only the most influential bands will stand the test of time, and it's hard to judge the current era, we'll have to wait, 10-20 years before we can completely say.
I think there are still some brilliant creative minds out there, but in general, I'd say everything is about to lead to a decline, since music has been hyper produced for the past 50 years, it's hard to come up with something new. I'd say one of the few aspects that hasn't been completely explored is merging electronic music with rock music.
On the other hand, Finks new album is pure win. ^^
