Do you think spiders would be scary if they had less legs?

Thing is I'm terrified of spiders but trying to think about what about them scares me makes me think I should love them

I love the strange and get no stranger to them, their eyes are pretty awesome and cute at times, they are free pest control, their way of hunting is cool, they aren't THAT venomous, I personally think Spiderwebs are beautiful(poor little arachnid, having to spin such beautiful tapestry away from humans because Arachne could help being sacrilegious and Athena has to be a meanie)

I don't think they'd be less scary with less legs, hell I think they'd be more scary. kinda like how a badass mercenary would be less frightening if he had lost a leg. Ok, bad examples

But I think my fear of spiders can be tracked back to my childhood and waking up with my face feeling furry, heavy and itchy...

Aside: Dyou think someone could take over the world with an army of giant spiders banking on many peoples fears of the bastards?

I don't know if the number of legs would change how scary the spider is to some people, Although a spider with less legs wouldn't be an arachnid anymore... (Whoo look how smart I am heehee)

Personally I like watching spiders when they move around ponderously, the flowing movement of all their legs is enjoyable to me. Of course, I won't hesitate to wipe out the little devils if they encroach upon the sanctity of my shower!

It's not just the legs, it's the size of the legs, it's the spindly hairs, the way they move. It's fucking everything. Gah they're nasty.

Except jumping spiders:

Awwww aren't they adorable? They've got the Disney factor, and that's an accomplishment, considering the fact that it's a spider.

Orb spiders aren't that bad either. While they're huge, their caraprace at least looks smooth, and their bright colours reminds me of beasties I'd sooner encounter in WoW than in real life.

Well, ask yourself this: Would a spider with no legs that moves solely by means of a cybernetic pogo stick implant me silly, terrifying or both?

I blame adults (and my sister's fear), personally. I used to pick up all sorts of bugs as a kid, but then they slowly became gross and creepy to me, and I don't know why. Spiders in particular.

And too, there's a control factor in there. I used to hold bees all the time, until this one day when I was ready for the bee to go but the bee wasn't ready to get off me. I freaked out a bit when I realized I had no real way to get it off if it didn't want off without it stinging me. Same thing with spiders, I think -- fear of them getting on me and then not getting off when I want them off.

I have recently been going to what's that bug?'s spider section and just reading through. http://www.whatsthatbug.com/category/spiders/ The way they calmly discuss spiders is helping, I think. I moved recently, lots of spiders, and I haven't killed one in about a month now. Just relocated a few. They all suck at life though, as none of them seem interested in helping with the mosquitoes. . .dammit.

I was just thinking about spiders and I was wondering what made them so scary...they have eight legs, but so do scorpions and I like scorpions not scared of them at all. Spiders are venomous but so are most bugs and arachnids...fire ants are technically venomous too but I don't find them unnerving...So if your scared of spiders spiders what is it you find scary about them? Personally I just find the way they move creepy they are really fast.
Legs, bah, i know people who wet themselves around snakes and they don't have ANY legs. I also know people petrefied of mice and they have 4, like cute n cuddly dogs and cats. Hell, i knew one guy in my life that was so afraid of Dogs he wouldn't come in my house unless i put my big dog outside, dispite the fact the big guy won't hurt a fly and couldn't get into the living room anways. Granted, he was a 170 lbs Bullmastif. But when my buddy was scared of my other dog... a chichiua... that ah.. well, we had to deduct some man points with that one...

So, no, it's not the legs. It's... just human nature? Instentual fear of the unknown/unfimilar? It's also possible to overcome if you work at it. I'm getting better, i was pretty skittish around spiders, but, i'm to the point i can almost hold my buddies spider... it's a long way from where i was... which was trying to kill it with FIRE... whenever he got it out. LOL. (it's a work in progress)

It's not the legs... it's the face. That soul-less and evil face...
And please, it isn't "spiders" it's "Lucifer's leg hairs"

What makes a spider creepy... the way they move, hairiness, eyes and hunting method. Why can't they be cuddly like rabbits?
You hurt his feelings, I think you should apologize.

What really gets me is walking into the webs.
Ok that is both Creep and Cute at the same damn time.....It's just not right!
Secondly their eating habits are what scare me. Like how they inject a venom to liquify their preys insides and suck it out for later.....yeah. Oh and possibly lay babies inside you. Skin crawly nastiness. ICK

Now Imagine if they were bigger. They're just all around scary and having less legs still wouldn't take away the fact that Spiders still creep me the hell out.

It's not the legs that scare me, but the hairiness and the fact that I can't see their eyes.

They're just overly creepy to me. Ugh... *shivers*

But if they pogo'd around on one leg, they would be fucking terrifying.
Oh gosh, the image that is now in my head is both hilarious and horrifying. Thank you very much for that.

spiders don't bug me much, unless i can see...details. i'm similar with ants. ever since falllout 3... i fucking hate ants. i was walking up with my lead pipe to kill what i thought was a red giant ant when all of a sudden FIRE was shooting at me. i think i would be less scared if i'd taken that mission later on. i was pretty low level.

centipedes too. they've always creeped me out. waaay more than spiders ever did.

i don't think the number of legs would make any difference.

For those who didn't use spoiler tags, please use them!

Anyway I don't think fewer legs will make them scary. However if their legs were shorter than it may work since it's their long legs that make them scary. Well that and their body structure is in two part (instead of three), many eyes and big fangs.

Its the lack of emotions that gets me. They're like small robots made from living tissue.

Anyways. Heres a cute hornet.

Seriously, that scared the crap out of me.

If they had less legs, they would probably scare me even more!
