Do you think Yahtzee will ever review Disgaea 4?

At this point, Disgaea is so alien and impenetrable to non-fans, Yahtzee would probably drink himself into a stupor just regarding the box art. It is unfortunate, but the series can be described as a math nerd's loin meat mixed with a chess fiend's sauce and served in a pretentious Japanophile wrap, then cooked wrong in a Western microwave.

Then again, this hasn't stopped me from clocking in over 100 hours into each title, now has it?

Are you one of those people that keep calling gears of war a "FPS" too?

RTS = Real Time Strategy. You know, no breaks. Real time.
It's turn based. You take turns. TBS.
Gears of war is a TPS I think it was haven't played it in forever.
I know what it is. Doesn't mean I won't fall into what people call it anyway.
AS in I OWN disgaea one and two.

Yatzee would be confused and bewildered by the initial dialogue scene alone. I don't see him playing more than an hour of this masterpiece.

Even though he liked No More Heroes and "loved" Killer 7 I doubt he'd be predisposed to enjoying the more otaku-side of things in Disgaea.

The gameplay being turn based would drive him insane too, he's the action/shooter type, doesn't seem to enjoy getting the most out of his "numbers". :p

One thing I don't get though, why is Disgaea suddenly "Japanophile" ? It's a Japanese game. It's just "Japanese", no need to add negative meanings where they're not merited.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but no. It's not an RTS. The more accurate term would be a Tactical Turn Based.

Real-time strategy (RTS) is a sub-genre of strategy video game which does not progress incrementally in turns

Wow, if anything he should review that Metal Wolf Chaos game. Intrigued by the fact that it was a game only released in Japan but featuring all English voice acting, I watched most of the opening cutscenes from the game, and holy shit was that insane.

For anyone who doesn't wanna bother watching them, the basic premise of the game is that Michael Wilson, the 47th president of the United States, flies around in a giant mech "saving America" from a group of rebels trying to over through the government led by the vice president, Richard Hawk.

Yahtzee could have a field day with that. Especially because it's filled with cheesy voice acting and a crazy over the top nonsensical plot, in very Japanese fashion. It's gotta be the most American and patriotic game not to be made by America. And another weird fact, it's an Xbox exclusive. How many original Xboxs sold in Japan? Like 5 if you wanna be generous, so that just makes it more crazy that a game like that was made.

It's not about Xbox as it is about western games in general.

Idol Master 2 FAR outsold Killzone 3 last week in Japan...and the former is a psp game while the latter is a ps3 one.

Yeah, but Xbox is a western console, and it was competing against the Japanese consoles the Gamecube and PS2. And if that wasn't bad enough, Xbox was Microsoft's very first console and had no reputation, while the Japanese were obviously very familiar with Nintendo and Sony. So to say the Xbox didn't stand a chance would be a gross understatement.

Disgaea is comedic enough that it doesn't require a roasting from a comedian.

Besides it's a JRPG (which he hates) and it's of the SRPG variety, which I doubt he has the patience and/or skill to play.

No, he doesn't like jrpg and this game isn't 'mainstream' enough.
A PS2 Greatest Hit title (Disgaea 1) isn't "mainstream" enough?
Yeah, it's not mainstream enough.

Sure the first one did fine. But i don't know many people who played the 2nd if not the third one. Third one was stupid. I didn't get very far because the characters/story was so much more sucktastic than the first two

Can't find anything on TTB online. Some site still describe it as a JRTS or just RTS. Anyways you call it, it's a genre that I can't stand. And Disgaea is even worst.

That's the entry on TTB. DOn't mind me, I just get a little... ticked off when people mislabel games' genres.

I've never heard of TTB either lol. I know it's not RTS but just "Srpg" has been sufficient enough characterization.

I don't think he would, since the meat of all Disgaea games is in the post game stuff, and the story itself isn't very good (apart from Disgaea 1, that was interesting). Remember he only gets a few days to play the games so he'd miss on 90% of the content.

Yeah Disgaea is categorized as a Strategy Role Playing Game everywhere I look.
