Yes. There are some games that are just fantastic that are M rated. Fallout 3 and Assassin's Creeds 1 and 2 are all rated M and they are some of the best games ever. If someone is prepared for the game experience, then why should they have to refrain from playing just because their parents cannot handle it?
yes thier are some fantastic single player games(such as the ones you listed) that no body whos mentally mature enough should miss out on. But the same can not be said of the online aspect of other games(Halo 3, MW, WaW,& MW2), I don't care how mature some kids are they should be barred from playing online until they've turned 17(or whatever the mature age is depending on your location)

Yes I've thought of this, they probly think we're dumb tossers but odds are we're having more fun than them so who cares

With that spelling it's 'E-Z 2 C Y U R KNOT Machure E-NUF 2 PLay Them'.

Also immature kids ruin team based games on consoles, as they are mostly p2p and I randmly get matched up with kids who, to put it kindly, are loud, prone to complaining and suck. Just because I can mute their whiny voices doesn't help when I get rammed by the kid in front of me driving in reverse at the start of a race FOR FUN. Makes me want to get a pc and join a moderated server for big boys only....

Granted there are adult who act this way but I'd say they're slightly less prone to it.

Hehe I'm playing Dominating Blazblue and my 13 year old cousin asks "Aren't you a little old to play a cartoon game? Don't you pay mature games like cod4?"

EDIT:
to be more specific the middle paragraph in the above quote is exactly why I loath playing with kids who are below the legal age

Jesus Christ, not a day goes by that I don't read some *new* thread in which some pre-17 year old (and I know you're 14 due to your profile!) moans about how their parents aren't allowing them to play M-Rated games, sugar coating it and phrasing it in such a way that they're trying to raise a topic of discussion rather than just moaning.

Ratings are there for a reason, yes you may be 'mature for your age' or 'can totally tell the difference between reality and imaginary' but at the end of the day you are still not 17 and therefore it is up to your parents to decide whether a game is suitable.

Honestly, yes. I played a lot of games when I was little, and Games Like Diablo and Half-Life were legendary.

They really are the best games. Just like some of the best movies are rated R.

A M rated game can have more depth and feel to it, and you also can get a lot more involved.

Yes Teen and E games do the same, but I found the best to all be rated M.

It would be really nice if more parents actually did that. More mature games would actually be MATURE, and I won't have whiny 12 year old cursing me out every game that I play online.

Seriously, it would be heaven, gaming bliss, not to have these children online.

Who cares if they miss out? They'll be able to get the games eventually, once they get older, and will therefore no longer be missing out.

Seriously, there should be an age limit for gaming. You have to be 16 to drive a car, and yes, if you are under 16, you are missing out, but who the fuck cares, it makes it safer for everyone else. Same thing should happen with games, having a 16 or 17 year old age limit to play mature games, and it should somehow be monitored.

THAT WOULD BE AWESOME!

I can really see that backfiring in terms of sales.

I would say that these kid's are missing out I wrote an entire Thesis paper on exactly why every case is different and why there should not be government regulation on video games. Every child is different and so parents who decide that because a game is M rated that their kid/kids can't play it are just lazy and know nothing about their kids.
I disagree. Think about it, if it weren't for the ESRB then someone else would be in control of said rating systems. In this case, let's just say it was the government. If this were the case, it may come to the point where the only games that do come out, would be things like tetris and pinball and the like. Games that exist today (ie: Fallout, GOW, MW2, ME2, ect.) are only really able to come out because of these fellows and their scrutinizing nature. I would like to think that "the devil you know is better than the devil you don't".
I agree that the ESRB rating system works well and it is certainly better than anything I could come up with but it does not control which games come out and is not a government run program. I had said nothing about the ESRB my post was merely anti censorship in terms of the government being able to decide which games one can and can't play by banning games of a certain rating. I applaud you for having the respect to disagree with my without starting a stupid flame war and actually saying something intelligent.

I'm starting to realize how invalid some of these replies are. " Good for us!"or "he can wait till hes older!!!one!". The thing is...its not really as easy as that. If you really were waiting 2 or 3 years for something your anticipating greatly...then it really can be hell.

So what I can infer form all these posts is that the escapist really don't like children playing their games. Thanks for posting!

Give them a Sega Megadrive, NES or SNES. All the kids games were fun back then (okay, not all of them...). I still play a lot of them now because many are still more challenging than some of the piss easy games we have today.

I don't get why games are supposed to have gore and blood and grit. Where's the fun? The wackiness? That's all I cared about as a kid and when playing games, I still do. I love stupid worlds like Layton's where almost everything everybody thinks of is puzzles and tea solves all ailments.

If anything, the people who choose to restrict their viewpoint of games are missing out as much as those who are having it restricted for them.

They can catch up later. Evidence for violent video games and sociopathic behavior later in life is conflicting, but 13-16 is a crucial stage of development. I'd definitely question the parents who allow kids to play those games.

for whatever reason my mom wont let me buy anything with a violent sounding title. i'm 17 in a month so it's not really a big deal. but she wont let me buy left for dead 2 assasins creed to or anything like that, it doesn't matter how bad the game is she can forget about that, but as long as she didn't let her son buy super killer zombie shooter 3

If it helps any, tell her Assassin's Creed is a Canadian game, therfore peaceful by default.
Honestly though it sucks to be you. My mom was like that and I had to get out. there really is no cure for stupid.

Hardly. Again I'm reminded of when I was a kid and my parents wouldn't let me watch Rated R movies (Canada hadn't developed it's own rating system yet), many of my friends would talk about all these movies they'd watched that I wasn't allowed to. At the time I felt a little left out, but thinking about it now, I hardly think I was missing anything. Besides they're are plenty of games for these kids to play that are within their age appropriate limits.

I dislike parents who coddle and censor their chidlren's views.

It usually ends up spawning people who weren't ready for a sudden transition once they grew up, thus becoming hyper-violent, sexual deviants, close-minded racists/politicians, depressed.

A negative, gritty, grim outlook on life is always best to live. Be happy, but just be pessimistic; know the shit that goes on in the world, for that is the only way you can base your purest beliefs, for you should not judge something until you try it or study it with a clean, open mind.

If I'm seeing things as pessimistic, and something good happens, it's twice as good!

If I'm seeing things as pessimistic, and something bad happens, I was expecting it, and can thus, adapt to it better.

All around, I'm a pretty jolly guy still! XD

And yes, I owe this to watching Rambo and Resevoir Dogs when I was 2.

No it wouldn't, there is plenty to life outside of M rated videogames, there's plenty to videogames outside of the M-rating. I get that it's probably hyperboly but if you need lots of blood and violence to enjoy something then the problem isn't the parents it's you.
There are games that have very little to no gore at all. Also, there owuld be several experiences in video games that would falter greatly if their "mature" content was removed, so yeah: It would be hell.
Yes, your life would be eternal suffering on par with living in a warzone, or a plague or the holocaust if you could not play M-Rated games.

Caving in to my subconscious I feel that I need to say this. CENSORSHIP IS BAD!!!!

Now that I have that out of the way to the OT. I don't really see how they would miss out, they could just buy it when they become of legal age to buy it on their own. It'll just be classics instead of "new, hip games"

I do think kids are missing out, but only because developers are more willing to put additional money and more talented developers on projects destined to carry that "M" rating. There's nothing inherently better about "M" rated games, they just have a historical tendency of being better.
