for whatever reason my mom wont let me buy anything with a violent sounding title. i'm 17 in a month so it's not really a big deal. but she wont let me buy left for dead 2 assasins creed to or anything like that, it doesn't matter how bad the game is she can forget about that, but as long as she didn't let her son buy super killer zombie shooter 3
If it helps any, tell her Assassin's Creed is a Canadian game, therfore peaceful by default.
Honestly though it sucks to be you. My mom was like that and I had to get out. there really is no cure for stupid.
I just buy stuff off Steam, I just bring it straight to the checkout screen surpassing any viewing of the rating. I have no idea If I'm allowed to own this shit although I probably am considering my mom is not sick with this so called "stupid" thats been going around lately. But anyway I do own the,, and that's all that matters at the end of the day, and I don't know what I would do without my Valve games at the end of the day.

Any kid worth their salt has already written an editorial piece and persuaded their parents, grandparent, aunt-and-uncle, and distant cousins as to the value of M-rated games; and the especially industrious ones have invited them for a rousing game of HALO or Brutal Legend.

Or to put it simpler: if they were meant to be playing M rated games, they already are.

Take my word for it, *wink* *wink*.
In case it isn't clear by now, I mean I did that back when I was in that position.
I remember doing something like that, I ended up doing a whole slideshow presentation in power point and everything. Alas, the game sucked ass... twas a sad moment.

Apparently all the rescourceful youths have that problem...when I wrote mine, the first thing I got with my newfound freedom was nothing short of pure, undilluted, badness. Fortunately I was able to compensate with a game of Assassin's Creed.

...If I may ask, what was yours? the game, I mean. Not the slideshow.

Say for instance that you are a 13-16 year old gamer. Your parents are strict as motherfucking hell and will never allow you to play rated M games and "Just barely" T games. Also, they have to watch you play for at least an hour (Should I also mention there smart as hell? They could probably figure out every joke in Banjo and Kazooie) and if they hear one curse word, one sexual innuendo, the game gets taken away.

I know, that life would be fucking hell, but have you guys noticed that at the rate some of these parents are going, this is probably not too far of? So I ask you Escapist, do you think a kid would really miss out if he could not play rated M games? ( Lets just say he's mentally prepared for it)
Generally speaking, no matter how protective the parents are, the child will experience violence, profanity etc. from dozens of other sources (eg school) before their 10th birthday. Also, denying them it will just make them want it more, so rather than a total blockade of the stuff, they should teach him right and wrong.

You really have no clue do you? If anything its gone the other direction. Parents don't give a shit anymore. I remember when Mortal Kombat II was controversial.

No. They can STILL buy those games when they're older. It can all happen in their 8th birthday when they feel initiated into adulthood. Sounds a lot less boring that spending your 18th getting drunk just because you can.

It has probably been said already, but I think it is more the case that mature gamers are missing out on a lot of titles aimed at children. There are presumably loads of great kids games out there, and no adult gives a shit and they avoid that whole section. More adults could probably benefit from playing things like "a boy and his blob" or "De Blob" or even the kiddy stuff with animal care and stuff in. Remember how great the Aladdin and Jungle book games were? An older person would never know because they wouldn't have thought to pick them up.

im 13 and most of my games are rated 18 (fallout 3, saints row 2, stuff like that) and i cant get into the lego games or most stuff rated under 15+.
i woudn't say their missing out its just that most higher rated games are better gaming experiences.

well im not aloud games with sex or nudity
With that spelling it's 'E-Z 2 C Y U R KNOT Machure E-NUF 2 PLay Them'.

Also immature kids ruin team based games on consoles, as they are mostly p2p and I randomly get matched up with kids who, to put it kindly, are loud, prone to complaining and suck. Just because I can mute their whiny voices doesn't help when I get rammed by the kid in front of me driving in reverse at the start of a race FOR FUN. Makes me want to get a pc and join a moderated server for big boys only...

Granted there are adult who act this way but I'd say they're slightly less prone to it.

Hehe I'm playing Dominating Blazblue and my 13 year old cousin asks "Aren't you a little old to play a cartoon game? Don't you pay mature games like cod4?"

Really? You are calling him out on spelling? I don't know if you have been ignoring the entire internet, but spelling is not a reliable to tell maturity. Actually, I am guessing that if he did not say that he was 13, you would not have guessed. I also fixed yours, if you want to be such a prick about it.

Anyways, it is unfortunate, but true, that many good games produced by good studios have to have an "M" rating, or it is passed off as a child's game.

If you're going to correct me for correcting him, make sure I can't correct you for correcting me.

Racing games, sports games, most every jrpg, Nintendo games and puzzle games all say hi from the magical fictional land of 'Good Games That Aren't Rated M'!
