i see no difference. you dont legally have a right to possess those items, regardless of whether or not they are tangible. minus a jewel case and foldout hard copies are the same as copies you have on your HD. sheesh, i feel like ive been hearing this argument alot lately. i quit.harhol post=18.73544.799395 said:Not if you could make a perfect copy of those Mercedes cars without physically removing them from the dealership...glambo post=18.73544.799354 said:so, youre saying if i spend all my money on my 2004 honda, but im not satisfied with my possession its not stealing to go to the mercedes dealership and steal a few simply because i cant afford any more cars?harhol post=18.73544.799315 said:Anti-download fundamentalists are free to have a go, but bear in mind that I buy several hundred CDs each year and could not physically buy any more.
There is a tangible difference between downloading a duplicate and taking a CD/game/movie from a shop.
Oh and thanks for this "jim_doki post=18.73544.799381 said:Piracy is wrong
I've always said it as "you-torrent". Use the edit button, you did bad.Vek post=18.73544.799387 said:Yes. That is all.
Also, that's not a u, it's the greek letter mu, symbol for the SI prefix micro-. as in, micro-torrent. Because that's it's name.
Lerns you some Greeks, yo.
That is exactly what I do. Game companies aren't the scum that the RIAA and MPAA are ('cept EA, but there is still time for them to not reach the dark side). If a game is good, I buy it, even if I already beat it, and never open the box.perfectimo post=18.73544.799282 said:If it was fun would you have bought it knowing you already had a copy?Limos post=18.73544.799277 said:I torrented Bioshock a while back. Always some Anti-p2per has to make the SAME damn example every time. Never in the history of p2p has some one *stolen* anything. What is being traded is information. Information is infinitely replicable, and can be free or cost money for the original owner to share with others. The owner never forgets his version, but now some one else knows it as well. Does this sound like shoplifting at all? No. There is a reason that no one has been sued for stealing. It's "copyright infringement."glambo post=18.73544.799354 said:so, youre saying if i spend all my money on my 2004 honda, but im not satisfied with my possession its not stealing to go to the mercedes dealership and steal a few simply because i cant afford any more cars? interesting perspective![]()
i cant bring myself to torrent music, mainly because i know what its like to try and sell albums. i do, however, use a certain private tracker to download movies. no current stuff, just foreign, B movies, old movies, and impossible to find stuff
hey, i said i torrent. i torrent because i DONT FEEL LIKE PAYING. i have the money to buy a copy of this hard to find DVD off of Ebay for $60. instead, i do some "copyright infringing" and DL it for free. without paying.Signa post=18.73544.799488 said:That is exactly what I do. I personally will copy and download anything I possibly can. If its on a disk, I'll have it for myself, or for any friend who wants his share. Does this mean I'm stealing? Hell no. I have a bookcase stuffed full with movies and games. I am very responsible with what I download. Just because I can have it for free does not mean that the creators do not deserve their fair share. It's when the creators ask too much, make it unavailable, or in a format I will not support (DRM) that they don't get my compensation. I'm getting what I want, and voting with my dollar what I want to see more of, and less of.
So I should have to pay the difference in wages to people I beat out for promotion!jim_doki post=18.73544.799400 said:not really harhol. You, by making that copy, have taken food out of several workers' mouths. Including assembly engineers, designers, painters and electricians. all these people dont get to eat tonight because you didn't want to pay for your car

For the Microsoft Word issue, you could always just use OpenOffice.org, which is free. I prefer it over Word.sneakypenguin post=18.73544.799527 said:Yes indeed, I wasn't going to pay 60 bucks just to be able to edit my office word 2007 documents for school(trial ran out and you can't even copy/paste from it) so why not download a key to unlock it? Or if i've seen a movie in theaters or have a copy and just want one on my lappytop for my breaks at school why not download it.
I tried open office but with college Powerpoint excel and access are required so a key gen download was necessaryEarthbound post=18.73544.799549 said:For the Microsoft Word issue, you could always just use OpenOffice.org, which is free. No, I don't use torrents because I view copyright violations as wrong, and will have no part of them

That being said, I use Limewire for tracks I can't find in the stores.
