Do you try to hide your geeky inclinations?

I thought of this because I made some joke to my friend about Half-Life at soccer practice a few days ago, and he had a hissy fit because he didn't want the soccer team to know he knew shit like that. Of course, I on the other hand don't give a shit and in fact would like people to know what they're getting in to. That's probably part of why I play large-scale Magic: The Gathering games in public spaces. But I ramble. My question is, do any of you ever stop yourself from doing or saying things in regular conversation so that you won't be labeled as a geek?

No. I take pride in being a geek and won't try to hide it. As my AP English Language teacher said not too long ago "Embrace your inner geek. We're all in AP and so we all are geeks."

I try to hide them. Not because I'm actually embarrassed by it--I like what I like--but because nobody EVER knows what the hell I'm talking about. I try to avoid talking about anime and videogames and stuff because A) people think I'm weird enough even without doing that and B) I don't want to alienate people from conversations, 'cos that's rude.

Absolutely not. It's a huge part of who I am and what I do and I would never be ashamed enough of that to hide it.

Every chance I get I like to make jokes about anime and video games and sometimes my friends dont get it, but if we're ever walking through a mall or something I notice a few people look at us and have a small chuckle.

I assume that they are laughing with me and not at me.

Yes and no. I don't mind showing off my geeky side but only to the right audience. If I cracked a gaming joke around my Nana, she'd force me to say a ton of Hail Marys because she thinks all things related to gaming and geek culture is the work of Satan and distracts from the light of God and whatnot.

I don't think I could hide my geekiness if I tried. I mean, there'd be no 'me' left, heh.

I wear it like a badge, which at my age can be an iffy thing among my peers. Fuck if I care who's going to judge me for being me. They no likey? They can eat shit and choke.

No. Even if I wanted to, somehow I suspect that being a member of several Computer Science organizations on campus, a member of the University Fencing Club and having an unsettling interest in math would betray me.

Nah. I am teh 1337-N3ss.

Also, I'm the only guy around here (IRL) that can do tech support.

Also, what was the Half-life joke? *listens intently*

Seeing as I wore a cosplay accessory as part of a thrown-together Halloween costume... er, no, not at all. (For those curious, it was Griffith's behelit necklace from Berserk, added to a quick 'Goth' getup that I threw together for a party).

I certainly don't hide my more nerdy inclinations. I talk videogames, manga, and comics to my friends. I don't rant to people who aren't interested, but I certainly don't hide it. And most of my friends are just as geeky as I am: into videogames, comics, manga, anime, or all of 'em.

Not normally but somewhat around my best friends family. Not because they're against it so much as they don't get some of my little moments.

Hell no.

Being employed as an engineer, I came to work wearing a red engineering shirt on a casual Friday. I even managed to flip open my cell like a communicator.
