Do you typically buy games when they come out?

Short answer: No. However, I have bought a couple games in early access, and so far none of them have really been a disappointment. Assetto Corsa and DiRT Rally were in early access for a lil while, but both entirely playable and definitely worth the cheaper price tag at the time. Released into very well composed, outstanding pieces of software. I also got Grim Dawn which was ages in development, but turned out superb. Killing Floor 2 though, is taking a lot longer to get going and with microtransactions already in the mix, I have my worries.

Never pre-ordered anything in my life except Witcher 2. But other than that, I wait for a sale, because I know they will get cheaper eventually, and my backlog is rather large and I am slowly picking my way through open world games so have a lot of time to watch for sales in between.

Witcher 2 & 3 come to mind. Oh, and Mass Effect 3. Well, two out of three isn't that bad, right?

I used to buy new games on occasion but starting as of last weekend I don't think I ever will again. I bought dark souls 3 and after tax and everything it ended up costing me near $100 which is freaking insane. I just can't justify that amount of money on a game when I can just wait a while and get a slightly older version for $30.

For a while, my launch day purchases were reserved only for titles that I was really looking forward to and was assured that they would be released without issues.

However, with all the delays (i.e. Battleborn, Uncharted 4), controversies (i.e. Mighty No. 9), and "early AAAcess" titles (i.e. Street Fighter V), it's becoming more difficult to really expect that you are going to get your money's worth.

Which sucks because I want to support developers by paying what their titles are worth.

My next purchase will be Uncharted 4 at launch because I'm confident that Naughty Dog has used the extra time wisely to give us a quality title at launch and Battleborn a month later on the grounds that I loved the beta and Uncharted caught my attention first.

Not as much as I used to, most games I buy at full price are ones I want to play with me mates, I have also bought a few 3DS games recently at full price, like Pokemon Super Mystery Dungeon and Fire Emblem Fates (though the latter is an interesting case, I got Birthright at full, Conquest at half, will wait to see if I will pick up Revelation)

Otherwise, later this year I am gonna pick up FFXV, Persona 5, Shin Megami Tensei IV: Apocalypse and Pokemon Sun/Moon all at full price, I am also pretty sure I will shell out full price for Titanfall 2 when it drops.
I'll be grabbing Titanfall 2 off of GMG within a week or two of launch. Same for Pokemon Sun/Moon.

OT: I don't typically, it's rare now, I tend to buy them on sale on PC, sometimes grab new Nintendo stuff near full price though, tends to hold value or even increase in value.

Will wait for reviews on FFXV though I'm optimistic.

I've regretted doing so enough times in the past that I usually don't anymore unless I've got -EXTREME- brand loyalty, and some things *cough*PaperMario*cough* have even called that into question.

Rarely,

Unless the game is a known quantity and I am a fan of the series, I don't often buy games when they are released. The last games I didd that were Arkham Knight (luckily I could refund it) and Rise of the Tomb Raider, because I really liked the previous games. Instead, I add them to my wishlist and wait until they get bundled into a sale.
