Ive noticed somthing interesting, after a few years of having very little access to TV and developing interests and such

Ive found that I now hardly ever actually watch it, ecept for mabye like two shows, other than that its just background noise

now Im in Auatralia, currently I just have the standard analouge channels (and I have to screw around with the rabbit ears now and again....yeah Im still using rabit ears) I think I do get the digital channels but they are unwatchable

so all up thats 5 channels

TEN
9
7
SBS (sort of...with some wishhful thinking)
ABC (government funded, probably the best one)

I dont have foxtel....and now I actually dont really see the point, aparently its alot more crap than it used to be even though I like the occasional documentry

anyway I dont know what its like in america

but back to what I was saying before[/B] not only do I not watch much TV but it...just kind of annoys me, half the time Im just shaking my head about how "dumb" it all is, and its all so...."mainstream" ...and just soooo....stupid (its the ads mainly..especially ads for their crap reality tv shows)

I mean if its not games then the rest of my entertainment comes from the internet more or less, its like filled the void that TV used to...uhh fill, so Im wondering is this the case with anyone else?

and its weird because TV used to be a main scource of entertainent....especially when I was a kid

that said however I probably would watch it more if I bothered to get ABC and SBS working properly

getting it streamed is comercial free :p or download it, but even then, i don't really watch much. more anime and random movies than anything. but even then, i rarely watch tv, sometimes there's news actually worth paying attention to (man that tastes weird in my mouth.) or a docu, or mythbuster's XD but all in all, if i was paying the tv bill, i woulden't have a tv bill :p

If you look into it, I find theres some great shows on nowadays. I mostly watch American stuff though.

Breaking Bad
Justified
Futurama
Always Sunny
Daily Show
Colbert Report
Conan
Men of a Certain Age
Parks and Rec
30 Rock

All fun to watch, most are comedies though.

I can say that I used to watch a LOT more TV like Cartoon Network/Nickelodeon when I was younger. Now it's just the occasional late-night Futurama or Adult Swim anime.

...Kind of a sad feeling, really.

I only watch the ABC and 7two. ABC because they have lots of good, intelligent and funny stuff. And 7two because they play Jonathan Creek once a week.

TV is just terrible in my country. I stopped watching about 10 years ago, and it just kept plummeting over the years in terms of quality. The only thing that interests me is the news, and I can get those on the internet.

So no, TV is quite dead to me.

you lost me at the word mainstream...
well I realised that my tastes have changed...and Ive been indulging in more "niche" interests such as video games sites, and web shows like nostalga critic and stuff on the escapist

and then I look at commercial TV...(this is going to sound weird/pretentious) and its like I see the stupidness of it all..that I didnt see before...like I can see through the cheesy voice-overs trying to get me interested in some shitty show I may have actually watched as a kid

and I look at crime shows...so many of them...so generic, and they way they usually horribly portray sterytypes (not so bad...but you know what I mean)

Its like I ascended to a higher plain of existance....KIDDING haha no...its hard to explain...basically I now see the bad part of TV for what it is...boring crap that fails to interest me (theres still good TV however)

I don't actively watch TV anymore. Most of it strikes me as stupid or uninteresting (or it's anime with terrible german dubs. [footnote]Really, the scriptwriters should learn how to write dialogues that actually sounds like how normal people talk. Most of the voice actors aren't particularly good, as well.[/footnote]). And yet, when you have two TVs in one room, there is always someone who thinks it's a good idea to watch something while you play on the other TV.

I still watch some shows, though. Thank god for the internet and DVDs.

Edit: Also, german TV shows are bad. So very bad.

The Sparticus Series and maybe a couple of episodes of Dexter.
Apart from that, No. Long healthy walks or Hours of Unhealthy gaming for me!
But honestly.. I'm just sick to death of Commercials. And the same show at the same time on the same 5 days a week for the past 9 years...

Nope, I don't. I don't even have a TV. I watch a lot of TV-shows, but I just download them the day after they air. Much more convenient, no commercials, plus I get to watch them when they arrive instead of when they air (which in Sweden is always atleast eight months after their original airdate, if the show is even bought at all).

Funny you should say that, seeing how I'm going to play a session of Twilight Imperium in Sunday (a highly entertaining board game that usually takes all day). Heh.
Seriously, TV is a constant stream of crap over here, and I thank whatever deities out there that in today's world you don't need it to fill the hours.

Except from the news and sports sometimes, nope, never. There's really nothing of interest to me.

I really enjoy White Collar, and NCIS never fails to suck me in. Otherwise, my TV exists for my 360 to display somewhere.

I'd love to watch Arsenal play, but the US stations can't be bothered to carry the games.

Ocassionaly a show comes a long. But usually I wind up on the internet streaming it because I missed it while it was on. I mostly use it for background noise if I dont know what music to listen to :p
