Does anyone here have game-playing parents? I used to play Civ 2 with my dad. We won the WWII scenario in 1943 by nuking the Germans until they surrended.
I played AOE3 with my dad when he broke his ankle. He couldn't do much so I taught him how to play and we would have LAN parties every now and then. His Veteran Uhlans always owned my Imperial Rockets.
Not really-my dad loved duck hunt on the NES with the ugly orange gun. My mom tried out some classic games like Zelda and SMBros, but never really got into it. That's about as far as it went though.
My dad doesn't play games, except for Minesweeper and Solitaire. My mother, on the other hand, has found her second and third lives with Animal Crossing: City Folk and Animal Crossing: Wild World, respectfully, and much to my chagrin, AS SHE WON'T STOP ASKING ME FOR HELP ON WHEN TO CATCH BUGS.
My dad used to play a lot of games and got me into them, but now he has too much stuff going on and too little money, so outside of me playing Halo with him every couple of weeks, he doesn't play that much anymore.
EDIT: I tried to play my Grandparents at Tekken 3 when it first came out (they are quite young, but still, they aren't THAT young) and my grandpa kicked my ass with Law. His secret: Mash. Mash a lot.
My mother used to have a full out Tetris addiction. My grandmother would sit and play pac-man for hours. She'd cuss out the ghosts and everything. It was truely weird.
If my father were still alive, I know he would have a powerful lust for Civ IV. We have similar tastes.
The only games my dad really stuck with was Civ 2 and Civ 3. Usually when my dad sees me playing a new game, he walks up and says he wants to try it and refuses my help, thinking he can figure out the controls himself.
My Mom (Who just turned 67) loves Guitar Hero and any flying/driving games she can find, and my Dad (Who is 71) has been hooked on FPS's since I showed him Quake 2 back in the day...
But no, that doesn't make either of them even remotely hip
(Edit) When Rainbow Six: Vegas came out I bought it for mysel- I mean my Dad for Christmas, and we ended up playing it until about 4 in the morning...
Probably the closest fucking thing to bonding with the old fart that I've ever done.
