There's a good story the only problem is its just one good story with fillers. One of my friends has a suspicion of what will happen on it as well.

The guy in charge of producing it did some brilliant writing, "The Girl in the Fireplace" and "Blink" to name 2, but he only did it every now and then so he could push his best ideas forward... I

I find that where fresh writers have been pulled in "The Doctor's Wife" naming one, it has given it some vitality.
Wasn't that one written by Neil Gaiman? That was the only episode of the new series I have actually liked.

Like him more than the 10th, not as much as the 4th. But, the writing for his episodes could definitely have been better. With that said the last season with the 10th was shit

I rather enjoy him.
I do not enjoy the obscene amount of threads asking this question though.

He is good if not as good as Tennant in the role. I'd say he is about as good as Eccleston was in the role albeit very different. My main issue is that his companions (Amy, Rory, River) have gotten stale and have been focused on to much. I haven't felt that way about any of the other companions in the show nor should I have to. They should not have had a second season with the doctor imo. Fortunately it looks like they are switching up the companions now even if they are going to make guest appearances in future episodes.

I'm really not sure how I feel about him. The quality of the show has certainly taken a turn for the worse, but it's really the writing and can hardly be blamed on Smith. Tennant's Doctor went from goofy aloofness to the depths of sadness to absolute, cold fury.

Matt Smith plays his role well, but he always seems to be stuck in the goofy aloofness, which is more on the writers for not giving him any really powerful moments like Eccleston and Tennant had. David Tennant is my favorite Doctor, and one of my favorite actors in general, but I think the show was hurt more by the loss of Russell T. Davies than David Tennant.

I swear that this is the third time I've seen this thread in the last few days. If we're lucky, then maybe some of these threads will fall through the cracks in the universe and out of existence.

I think that Matt Smith's general demeanor is as unique as all those before him and I cannot understand why people are having such a hard time adjusting to him. If he stays long enough, he may become as popular as David Tennant.

I prefer him to Tennant; Tennant was too smarmy for my liking.

However, he has got a raw deal on the episodes this season. The pacing, the scripts, the plots themselves have all been completely atrocious. Amy & Rory were alright for a while but when they stopped caring that their baby had been stolen that was when they got stupid.

I preferred Eccleston to Smith and Tennant though!

The obvious answer is that if you don't like him; you're not a real Doctor Who fan.

All the Doctors are The Doctor... so you can't really dislike one without disliking them all.

While he is not my favorite, (that goes to Christopher Eccleston), I don't think he is terrible. I don't think he has been given as good of material to work with as Eccleston and Tennant, which has made the episodes less enjoyable.

Matt Smith is, of course, a great Doctor. Unfortunately for him, he has to follow David Tennant. As old-school Doctor Who fans remember the likes of Tom Baker, Peter Davison and the others, I and likely a great majority of new fans will remember David Tennant, with Chris Eccleston coming right behind him.
Matt Smith, eh... There's something about his face that doesn't quite sit well. The Doctor needs to be able to display an incredibly wide variety of emotions with nothing more than their face muscles. Chris Eccleston did that very well, David Tennant took it to a whole new level, and Matt Smith, well, not quite so much. Both David and Chris could do "furious, righteous determination" very well, and that's something that I rather like in The Doctor, is his ability to let the villain know how horribly screwed they are. Matt Smith, bless his heart, doesn't quite have that ability.

pure and simple doctor greatness goes, chris eccleston, matt smith, then tennant, matt is amazing but not the same type of doctor as eccleston, but this is all moot anyway they are different characters and to answer OP yes i do like matt as the doctor

obviously this doesnt include the older doctors as i have little to no experiance with the older series's

I like Matt Smith as The Doctor. I hate Steven Moffat as head writer. Obviously, this is problematic.

There seems to be a hell of alot of these threads going about at the moment. I think this is the third I've seen in the last two days.

I'm hopefully correct in saying that fans of the classic series prefer Matt Smith, as his Doctor has the depth and complexity of the originals.

Where as fans of the new series gravitate to Tennant for whatever reason that maybe. As a classic fan this is completely beyond me.

I really like him as The Doctor. He's arrogant, but unlike David Tennant's Doctor, his arrogance tends to cause issues for himself, whereas it seemed that, right up until the final three episodes, David Tennant's Doctor was just as arrogant and smug as Matt Smith can be, but he never got into issues for it, whereas Matt Smith has had plenty of issues. Plus, he seems to feel consequences a lot more than Ten did. Drive away Martha just because you don't like her as much as Rose? Oh, well, just get another companion. However, this Doctor seems fully aware of how much he's screwed up, and is down on himself for it.

Also, I feel like Matt Smith is a lot more compassionate towards his companions than Tennant was. I couldn't see Tennant telling the TARDIS interface "Show me someone I like!" when a hologram of the Doctor shows up, and then be unable to address it in the forms of Rose, Martha, or Donna because of guilt over how he's messed up their lives.

TL;DR I really like Matt Smith as the Doctor, just because he has to suffer consequences for his actions, not just get away with everything because he's The Doctor, and he actually is affected by mistakes he's made, while Ten always seemed to focus on the Time War as his only real mistake, and nothing else being as major until Doctor-Donna.

Thought I was the only one who got that smug feel from Ten.

At first I did not like him but he grew on me. The problem is that last season and this season has just been so fucking boring. I hate Amy and Rory, espesaly Rory mainly because he is a complete arse. And do not even get me started on River Song. I am not saying that RTD did a perfect job and all his episodes were perfect but since Moffat took over the show has been so crap that I have just not bothered to watch the last 3 episodes.

Anyway Matt Smith good Doctor just has the misfortune of being in crap episodes.

EDIT: Althrough Matt Smith cannot do the angry or Serious stuff well. Whenever he trys he reminds me of a little kid dressed in his dads close saying in a childish voice "I'm a grown up now"

I like David, but I think Matt is a nice change of pace. Instead of him being serious a lot of the time, he's Goofy, save for the end of one story arc. It's nice to see something different.

I think Doctor Who is a pretty cool guy. Eh defeats aleins and doesn't afraid of moral inconsistency.

In all seriousness, Matt Smith certainly brings a unique physicality to the role, and in the last series he made the episodes more enjoyable to watch. But this series has had far too many 'bottle episodes' taking place in a single room or building, not to mention that some of them weren't very good (Curse of the Black Spot, Let's Kill Hitler, Night Terrors). The first two episodes (where they spent all the budget) were definitely the best though.
