That whole episode just seemed dreadful. I just did not enjoy it. The pirates didn't even seem like pirates imo.

And the schroedinger's baby theory sounds interesting. Surely the TARDIS scanner isn't so bad that it can't even detect a pregnancy.

Hmph. Not a bad episode, but suffered from the exact problem I figured it would - far too static for an episode of Dr. Who.

A single ship is not enough space for an episode, even if it does inadvertently encompass another ship in another universe (and I thought we weren't doing that any more, after the cybermen?). The guy has a vessel that travels through time and space. That's his thing! Static episodes are therefore bad.

I don't understand why the Doctor didn't get pissy when Amy managed kill (as far as he knew) the pirate at the beginning. Also, why would the siren's anaesthetic sound like that?! WHY?

Oh well, I've resigned myself to accepting the plot holes and Deus Ex Machinas (See, TVTropes is useful for something!) in the latest Doctor Who episodes.

Considering how the entire schtick of Doctor Who is supposed to be time travel and causality I'm having real trouble with the Doctor's morality these last few episodes.
Isn't the idea that the captain's son would keep him in moral check?

Still, I'm not sure where their food is supposed to come from after they leave Earth...

EDIT: Several more thoughts in the time it took for the page to load:

1. Couldn't the Doctor have simply brought back the TARDIS using the key like he did in the Ecclestone episode where Rose saved her dad's life and they got attacked by gribbly paradox beasties?

2. Could that universe have been the same one as the one Rose got trapped in? Does the Doctor even care about her any more? Do his affections diminish when he gets a new body?

3. Unrelated to this episode: Surely River Song can never remember any of the episodes that have already happened in the series, since she hasn't seen that part of the Doctor's timeline yet?

4. Like Generic Gamer said, I think the Doctor is being far too bloodthirsty. He's already condemned an entire species to death (the Silence, but their plot points have yet to be wrapped up so they can't all be dead) in the second episode, and I thought that was more of a Christopher Ecclestone thing (y'know, "born in war" and all that).

And yet, the Doctor allowed the Captain to stay so his kid would not die back on their old ship. This way the kid would live and get to stay with his father. Ok so he may never be able to leave the ship but it was his fathers choice.
I just think the Doctor works better when he's working for the greater good. One has to wonder how many people will die just because the Doctor was sentimental. besides which, the rest of the crew are pirates who had no lesson to learn. Why would they stop piracy for no reason? As I say, I know this is really a kids show now but it's just not great on the Doctor's part.
As opposed to Tennant's Doctor where other gave their lives for him. Jenny, Luke, Harriot Jones, Jack (technically), Martha (attempted to and failed), The Face of Boe, River Song, Astrid, Chantho, Dalek Sec, Jabe, Pete Tyler, Lynda, Mrs Moore.....

All sacrificed themselves either to help the Doctor or to protect him. So instead of the blame being on him directly, it's indirectly until Davros points it out to him in Journey's End. Although I'm sure it's occurred to him already. The only difference now is the Doctor is actually making these decisions himself as opposed to others doing it for him.

Too many plot points and story arcs, my brain is in danger of asploding. Maybe next week one of them will be explained!

Don't know how true this is but both my parents pointed out that the big booming voice in the trailer sounds like Tom Baker...
Tom Baker's dead though, so I doubt he'll make a cameo :L as cool as that'd be.

and I'm getting sick of Rory rapidly. The amount of times that he's died, and then come back... stop dicking around and just do it.

Isn't it funny how pirates, who the word scanner is alien to them can fly a sophisticated spaceship, using terms like wheel etc :p

It's nice to see the ood back again next week, although this time they are being possessed by the colour green ;D
They do seem to have a rather severe evolutionary susceptibility to being possessed.

I think the Doctor really should look into that.

Tom Baker isn't dead, he spoke about Elizabeth Sladen's death literally 3 weeks ago

"Yo ho ho! Or does nobody actually say that?"

Interesting. Another appearance by that strange face with an eyepatch in the wall.
Decent episode, nothing really mind blowing though. Pirates are cool.
I did think for a second they'd killed off Rory!

Next week looks VERY interesting though!
"There's a living Time Lord out there"
I'm putting money on there being a living time lady rather then a time lord, think back to season 4.

I loved how the aliens that died from human bacteria had letters from the human language on their suits..

Based on the trailer for next week, I'm thinking it is a female Time Lord.

Also, how long can technologically inept pirates last in deep space without crashing into a sun, really?
To be fair, we only saw them piloting the ship for a few seconds. They probably did manage to fly into the sun a few minutes later.

Did it say/mean anything in particular, or was it just a pan-dimensional version of the Chinese symbol tattoo?

Underwhelming, but good.

Next episode looks beast however.
Your assessment of the next episode is just how I worded it - beast.

Speaking of which, anyone else think that voice may have beeen the beast?

Anyway, twas a good episode, but not great. Freaked me out.

Also, I know it's a family show, but I seriously doubt Amy would last on a ship full of 17th century pirates who haven't seen a woman in weeks. Just saying.

Ah, I just remembered another thing about this episode I didn't like!

Amy basically (apparently) killed a guy. Why didn't she react to doing that at all? You'd think she'd have some sort of moral crisis to committing a murder, even if it wasn't the full-blown heroic breakdown the Doctor'd have in a situation like that...
