Possibly my favorite ever episode.
The House was one scary mother fucker.
One question though, how did their makeshift tardis protect them in space, it didn't even have walls?
I assume the same way that the Blue TARDIS protects her occupants when they open her doors in space, shields of some sort.

It was nice to see Arthur Darvill have a chance to do some good acting too.

"Hello."

Seems that it might have been the tardis who taught river after all who is better at driving a tardis than the tardis its self

*giddy with glee!*

Yay, yay, yay, yay, yay I'm so happy that this episode didn't disapoint! I was so looking forward to it especially considering how much enigma was around it!

I thought they got the voice of the TARDIS bang on, she was so wonderful. And the 9th/10th Doctor console room, it felt like coming home as soon as Amy and Rory walked in. Magical. It would have been cool to see some other rooms and maybe an old console room (the 4th Doc's wooden one would have been nice except a bit small for the scene) but I actually found the infinate coridor thing fantastic, and frightening.

Was I the only one who thought she called out 'thete' when she was in that cage?

She borrowed him as much as he borrowed her, I loved that. I loved the fact that she told him he always ended up where he was needed not nesasarily where he wanted to go.

Overall the best episode so far. I have to say, Doctor Who is often at it's best when other writers come in an bascially write their fan fictions. We got 'Vincent and the Doctor' last series and this time we've got this, fantastic! No series arc stuff, just plain old Doctor Who at it's most beautiful. Eu de TARDIS so to speak.

(I really wanted to give the Doctor a great big hug after Idris/TARDIS said 'hello'. I glad we got the lovely bit at the end).

Great, great episode. Being penned by Neil Gaiman, I wasn't surprised.

By far one of the best episodes of this season, probably of recent seasons too.
Agreed. I thought it was wonderful. Neil Gaiman's humour combined with the Doctor Who universe really tickled me, and he managed to make a disembodied fricking voice both scary and hateful. Honestly, there were times I wished the House were a physical being just so I could smack the son of a *****. But the TARDIS, wonderful woman that she became, sorted that out nicely.

Fantastic characterisation, and a truly bittersweet ending. Bravo Neil, and I hope you come back for another go in the future.

2 BIG thoughts on that episode.

1) Very Neil Gaiman. Reminded me a lot of Neverwhere for some reason.
2) Every time I said that the Tardis is semi-concious and is the reason the Doctor always ends up somewhere interesting? I'm so glad I was right!

Other thoughts: Definitely the best episode of the series. I'm a little surprised that they let someone outside the writing staff have that much freedom re: defining canon about the Tardis, but I'm glad they did as I can't think of anyone better to do it. My only real problem was what I felt as a slightly wasted oppotunity with regards to them running around inside the Tardis and the control room they showed. Would have been nice to see them going thorugh different/random rooms instead of the same corridor over and over and I was really hoping for a completely random console room from, say, the 5th Doctors time instead of just the last one.

Overall, fantastic. Love the Bunkbeds line and can anyone remember the Forest and River line? Feel I should have remembered that as its very obvious about the reference. Looking foward to seeing it happen.
The only water in the forest is the river.
Think that refers to the silence in the library episode, as it was a forest of information..in a way.

But why would they add a line like that for something that has already happened. It was established throughout that episode that the TARDIS could somehow see the the Doctor's future.

The TARDIS is 700 years old.
Must've missed that part but surely not? Idris did say she was already a museum piece when the Doctor stole her.
Well yes, but that's common knowledge from the old episodes :D

I agree, but I still think if refers to River Song.

Seems a little too obvious? Since I can't think of any thing else I would agree.

What's really smart/clever/weird is I have been watching old Doctor Who's on DVD again this afternoon and thy mentioned a TARDIS graveyard at the end of the universe...

I watched this episode and was like :O

And then I watched an episode with the third Doctor use the console with out a shell!

Also loved the fact the TARDIS console they built looked like the first doctors!

Good episode too!
I'm jelly that you can look at the old episodes well. Up to a certain point in the series, the homespun effects just grate on me...

But the makeshift Tardis was just the engine, no kind of field generator or anything.

also,
Doctor: "It's the TARDIS, and a woman!"
Amy: "Did you wish really really hard?"

Seems like they're starting to develop and grow the doctor what with him moving from being quite pacifistic and diplomatic to ordering the deaths of House and countless silence, but don't get me wrong, such an iconic character growing is great.

They are pretty dodgy but they make me laugh. However the real payoff is in the stories, I've watched some truly outstanding episodes that are far better than most of the new stuff. Plus if you like the mythology of Doctor Who there is tons of information buried away in them.

Actually, it was the first Matt Smith episode I've liked. I thought Neil Gaiman's writing was superb, and the lady playing Idris was very good though I can't remember her name. She gave just enough crazy that it was believable but not so much that it was in the way.
I also liked the adventuring in the TARDIS' corridors with House playing with their minds.

Also: Timey-wimey > Spacey-wacey

The only water in the forest is river?? You can bet that bit wasn't put in my Gaiman. It's a shame, as I liked this episode. Made me relatively emotional.

This has got to be my favourite episode so far. I'm a big Gaiman fan anyway, but this was brilliant.

I mean, the corridor with Rory's corpse and all the writing terrified me. Actually, so did the old Rory. The whole bit with the corridors in fact. Loved it, but it definitely creeped me out.

I loved the TARDIS, and her voice and acting was spot on. It is how I imagined her to be- quite scatterbrained but brilliant, like the Doctor.

I got a giggle out of the Corsair. Both in the man/woman regenerations, and in that his name essentially means "privateer". As in, someone who was given permission to attack supply ships and take their cargo. And his Ouroboros tattoo was clever- the ever repeating cycle.

Also, lots of good lines and the future link/hint... thing. Brilliant episode all round.

I didn't like this episode :(

It was alright but the whole thing just felt floppy, kind of just stuck in there to make good for this week.

"YES HELLO I AM YOUR TARDIS *BOOBS*"

"FEAR ME FOR I AM DISEMBODIED FLOATY VOICE OF DOOM WHO IS A LAME TEMPORARY VILLAIN."

The bit with Rory and Amy in the corridors was good, mind-games! I think Mr Floaty Voice could've been a bit more sinister.

It was good to learn a bit more about the tardis and stuff but still an average episode (PERSONALLY), here's hoping next week is better!

Spacey-wacey will never beat Timey-Wimey!
