For every man, woman, and child who's ever picked up a copy of Harry Potter or, heaven forbid, some actual literature.
Wow. So Harry Potter isn't real literature? That's amazing. I wouldn't have known that if you hadn't rudely pointed it out. What about the people who actually like Harry Potter? Jeez.
I never said anything negative about the books. Hell I love the first three but they're not literature. Neither is The Da Vinci Code, the Bourne Identity or anything Tom Clancy has ever
touched.
Ahem. Let me read off the definition.
1.writings in which expression and form, in connection with ideas of permanent and universal interest, are characteristic or essential features, as poetry, novels, history, biography, and essays.
2.the entire body of writings of a specific language, period, people, etc.: the literature of England.
3.the writings dealing with a particular subject: the literature of ornithology.
4.the profession of a writer or author.
5.literary work or production.
6.any kind of printed material, as circulars, leaflets, or handbills: literature describing company products.
7.Archaic. polite learning; literary culture; appreciation of letters and books.
There. I hope you reconsider calling any piece of writing "not literature".
