No, I do not think I am superior I am saying that the way I speak is not something that should be attacked. The same way I do not attack them for speaking a certain way. Also, I am talking about people who use "You just always need to be right" as a defense for something. I personally am able to admit when I am wrong about something easily because it is logical. It seems almost as if they are trying to use that statement as a means to be right.
Oh I see well people who do that are just stupid or baffled or just don't want to continue the fucking conversation (i.e my brother he's a big jackass when he thinks he's right and he will not stop talking about it even if he's TOTALLY wrong and if I have proof he just disregards it)
Yes, your brother sounds like something they were trying to accuse me of being. I do agree that someone who still thinks they are right after being proven wrong is very annoying.

the thing is if you are using big words just cause you know the other person doesn't or can't, then you are being a pretentious dick and lording your intelligence over them

when in a conversation/discussion/argument with a person, you should always cater yourself to their level of speech. if you try and speak above their level of vocabulary you are actually trying to prove you know more than them. it's also a sign of disrespect to the person

so yes your father was right in what he was saying

When I was 16, I thought my father was the stupidest man I ever knew.

When I was 22, I was amazed at how much he had learned since then.

I too get teased for using bigger words than my family can handle. My parents are smart enough to know some of the words, but my little brother just gives me a blank state, then calls me a noob.

At which point I throw a Gatorade bottle at him.

Yes, but speaking the way I do comes naturally. It would be like me asking him to speak on the same level as I simply because it would be more convienient for myself.

Have you tried to use the word "nibelung" or "bloviate" yet? Those can cause some mental chaos.

Nah, not over-the-top stuff like that, things like travelify, and realisticity.

Those are good. But nibelung means- roughly- "dwarf", and a gold-hoarding one at that. So whenever I use it, it's like I can see their brain start examining the word, then implode from complexity.

When my parents belittle me for for desiring to be educated...I can't help but think that that tells me something right there.

Oh right, I don't know many obscure words, I only have two:

1) Floccinaucinihipilification. 'The estimation of a thing as worthless'
2) ... Crap I'm down to one.

Anyway here's a good site for them: http://www.kokogiak.com/logolepsy/

Yes, whenever I try to say something elaborate I either was:
laughed at,
getting looks like I'm some wierdo,
or (now this happened 97% of the time) constantly having to repeat what I say as they go "what??" after every time I do so.

but then I decided that I will only use such vocabulary with people on the same level of intelect as mine (or higher) and online where people can get a dictionary instead of going "whhaat??" like a retard thus resolving the problem.

..in short yes it did happen to me but then I decided that extended linguistic use is only meant for those intelligent enough to understand it

You're making a big deal out of nothing. I understand big words but people who talk like they're reciting a Charles Dickens novel just come across as pretentious. Because they are. It isn't belittling (sp?) the intelligent, it's belittling the pretentious.

Sir, you have just been a victim of the Chewbacca Defence.

I get into an argument like that almost every week with my younger brother. 9 out of 10 end in him screaming an unintelligible combination of insults at me before storming out of the room.

When you try to use simple logic on the 'uncomprehensive' shall we say, It sort of has an adverse effect. In other words, they use being dumb as an immunity to common argumental tactics. Use big words on them, it goes in one ear and out of the other. It's a war of attrition with those people, see how many words you can throw in, regardless of quality or size, and if it's more than the other person, you win. An argument with anybody with the least bit of culture goes much more calmly.

And yes, I've been accosted for my big words before also. Pfft, like it's a flaw...

Granted, using big words for big word's sake is pretty silly, but if you understand the value of a large vocabulary, there's no problem with using that knowledge to your advantage. The more words you know, the easier it is to formulate a sentence without sounding the same.
