Honestly,I agree and disagree, while the vita doesn't have a multitude of games, its suited me very well. I have UMVC3 (which I love, but mainly because I can play it for 15 minutes here and there) Unit 13, Disgaea 3, Modnation racers, Uncharted and wipeout, and even though some of the games have faults (I almost scream at Modnation's loading times, lagging while customising, and bad touch screen response, just because I love the game so much) I have enoyed every minute of it.

The thing is with consoles like the vita, is does it apply to you? For me, that question was yes. I play handhelds alot more, and was heavily dissapointed by my 3DS.

I only really bought my Vita for Persona 4, it's not out yet, so at the moment it's just a cool novelty.

Once P4G comes out, that's when I anticipate it getting much better

It'll all be worth it for Persona 4 Golden. I won't have to buy another game for months and months.

The Vita is region free isn't it? Look I didn't buy one and I don't really plan to but the Vita being region-free was the one thing that made me take a somewhat closer look at the hand-held. It's true that right now the main things the Vita has on offer (in the US) are watered down ports of console games and, Gravity Rush. Whereas in Japan, the PSV has (or will have) games like these:

http://www.play-asia.com/The_Legend_of_Heroes_Zero_no_Kiseki_Evolution_Limited_Edition/paOS-13-71-1ab-49-en-70-4mwx.html

http://www.play-asia.com/Hatsune_Miku_Project_DIVA_f/paOS-13-71-1ab-49-en-70-4p81.html

http://www.play-asia.com/DJMAX_Technika_Tune_Limited_Edition/paOS-13-71-1ab-49-en-70-51w7.html

...ok so one JRPG and 2 rhythm games, the Hatsune game being part of a pretty big, multiplatform series...Hey, maybe Ragnarok will be the big PSV killer app! Maybe...I really thought Japan would have had a Monster Hunter on the PSV at this point...sorry. I'm just going to go back to my 3DS.

I can't say that I feel that I wasted my money, since I didn't. Got mine as a birthday gift from my fiancée. If I would have bought it myself(I was eyeing it), I would be a little bit worried. The trickle of games for the platform has been slow, and as of lately have kinda stopped(here in Sweden).

I would like to say that the games I have on my Vita I'm pretty happy for. I got Disgaea 3 with the console, and I have a couple of hundred hours in it. I dunno, I seem to be a sucker for that game, and it works well to play when I'm not at home. Touch my katamari was pretty great, but a bit short.

Honestly, the only game I have that I haven't been able to "get into" is Gravity Rush. Which is weird, since it is fun, and I really dig the art-style. I just can't be bothered to pick it up and play it, but when I do, it's pretty fun.

Honestly? Yes. I get the feeling sometimes especially given all I am looking forward to is Assassins Creed 3 Liberation and all I own are Uncharted, Gravity Rush, Disagea 3 and MGS HD pack. But the PS1 support will tide me over for a long time, as a frothing at the mouth PS1 fanboy I will be most satisfied. I know I could have kept to a PSP but I like the screen of the Vita.

I understand what you mean. I had been looking at a Vita for a long time and really wanted one, but there were just too many dealbreakers. Everything from the lack of games, the limit of just one account at a time, long loading times due to slow memory cards, no other color options than black at launch and the lack of support for PS1-titles simply made me not buy it in the end, despite desperately looking for a excuse to do so.

Then I bought a Asus Transformer TF700 tablet instead and never looked back. I love my tablet and with all the quality games, movie-watching possibilities, emulation possibilities, easy web-surfing etc, anyone who says that handheld game-devices isn't facing competition from the tablet-market is simply wrong.

Wow, I think I'm the only one who's enjoying the Vita.
I laugh at your inability to use this marvelous device.
HAHAHA!
Seriously though, I really like it.
The huge amount of downloadable PSP game are awesome
and the games it's got on it are of quality.

I figured it was only a matter of time when I got mine and I'm so happy I was right.

Yeah, I think Sony miscalculated that by making a handheld that is mostly a new iteration of the previous one and not supporting it even as backward compatible to the PSP. Its still to early to call, but it wouldn't be the fist device go down in history as one that was highly competent from a hardware perspective but failed because of support. Also, the fact its pretty expensive doesn't help either.

But the worst part is the lack of support by Sony themselves. Its like they know it hasn't lived to expectations and are quietly letting it die. For example, look at E3... they had a hardware that was released a few months before and one that has several years in the market. Instead of focusing on the new kid in the block and proving why people should pay attention to it, they focus almost 90% of their presentation to the PS3. Even the wonderbook had more screen-time than the Vita.

Monster Hunter with twin-stick controls (1x for camera, 1x for player) ALMOST justifies the purchase on its own.
And while the Vita didn't take off, it'll still probably get enough good stuff during its lifetime to make it worth it. Probably.
I dunno man, Monster Hunter Portable 3, which is the only known Monster Hunter game that'll be coming to the Vita, is just a port of PSP game that's also available on the PS3. Meanwhile the 3DS secures the actual sequel. Basically I'm just thinking that people who bought a Vita expecting Monster Hunter because that was one of the few games on the PSP that made it worth it might have jumped the gun.
I'm talking about the existing ones - MHFU, for instance. The Vita has a translate-arrow-buttons-to-stick option for PSP games which, practically singlehandedly, transforms MHFU into a much-more-playable game.

Captcha: Dish ads advertising "ad-free TV." The irony is strong with this one.

Well, didn't know about that. I know some of the shooters like Resistance mapped the "aim" functionality to the face buttons rather than the arrow keys to simulate the twin analog stick feel, would there be some way to map those controls to a second analog stick? Going back and improving the experience of PSP games does actually seem pretty cool, if only it supported UMDs...

The content manager, as stupid and cumbersome as it is, is pretty much the reason it hasn't been ripped open by the Dark_Alex's of the world. Being able to use the PSP as a removable hard disk made that very possible. Alas, another example of DRM hurting the paying customers and wasting their time until the ultimate loophole is found.

And the twin sticks make it mechanically better than the PSP, but damn near impossible to put in your pocket.

I think the issue here is how much the phone/tablet world changed around it. Games with good graphics, UE3 even, with touchscreen mechanics can be had on a larger screen for 2-10 bucks, on a device that doesn't cost much more. Vita games being in the 30-50 dollar range seems astronomical compared to iOS and Android offerings. Hmm...I think I'm talking myself towards selling this thing and getting a tablet. There'll be remorse when P4 golden comes out, but that alone can't justify the whole damned thing.

In terms of an investment i dont think the Vita will be a wasted purchase. I mean its hardware practically guarantees longevity of the handheld. Also it cant be in this release slump forever (right?).

Thankfully after reading the post I gained some new perspective about the Vita. I myself do not own a "baby console" :)D PC master-race checking in). So the Vita fits in my niche of wanting a "gaming console" without forcing me to decide on what to use at my home (my 4 year old PC is trending along). Its nice to have something to play while I just want to lay on my bed or I'm at a friend's place.

Despite all this I do not own a Vita so whether that affects the validity of my statement is up to you guys. Though when Monster Hunter comes out for it I'll be really tempted to get one. I started MH on the PSP after all, so its more or less a Handheld title to me. Unless MHO ever gets release in America.

I wouldn't really want to get a portable console because I'd be afraid of losing it. And I don't generally have many opportunities for portable gaming anyway. I prefer to game on a larger screen because it's easier to make out details - the Vita's HD screen is wasted on a tiny console.

Since day one, i am loving this handheld.
It keeps getting better with every firmware update and wave of games.
Gravity Rush is a wonderful game that justified the purchase for me.

And seeing the awesome stuff on the horizon, some of which i had the pleasure of demo-ing on GamesCom, i'd say the Vita has a bright future.
