Does anyone else find Fox's new Terra Nova insulting and just generally stupid?

Hmmm it seems some people are a little too overprotective of the show, as some people are just attacking OP just because he is criticizing the show, rather then attacking his post. A show just being Sci Fi doesn't mean you can't say the logic behind it is bad, as many shows manage to explain it really well and clearly, such as fringe for the most part.

Question: Would you build your house in a spot where you knew something much bigger than you (Even if there's only a 50/50 chance it's carnivorous) came to lay eggs?

Follow up: If you were a scientist would you not at the very least study the egg shells to make sure they came from something harmless on the off chance they ever return?

The "best and brightest" the future had to offer answered both of those questions incorrectly.
I'd have kept walking.
Did you even read my post? I'm not saying what they did is a genious decision, im saying the location they built their settlement was the BEST case scenario out of multiple less-than-ideal choices.
Okay, you're right. Go build your house where giant angry things like to fuck. you obviously won't get eaten.

Also I just reread your post and you're wrong.
Remember the first episode they sent the army guys with the jeeps to collect all the time travelers and stab a little girl. Then they drove them back to the settlement. They could have put it anywhere. Closer is better but on top of a dinosaur breading ground is stupid.

While I hate the fact that it's giving me this weird sense of Creationism (DO NOT WANT) I just find it to be cheezy as all hell.

Meh I can suspend my disbelief, but I lost all interest in Dinosaurs when the Game Primal Rage died out and the 2nd and 3rd Jurassic Park just disappointed to no end.
I was 10 years old when I saw #2 and it put me to sleep!

Secondly I demand we make a show such as this:

[HEADING=1]A PRIMAL RAGE SCI-FY SERIES!![/HEADING]

[HEADING=2]I DEMAND A TV-SERIES OF THIS BE MADE!! NOOOOOWW[/HEADING]

I'm just completely blown out that it's nothing to do with the classic mid-late 90s FPS...

Suddenly the song Iridium has popped into my head (Iridium being the substance in the Meteor that killed the dinosaurs)

The show has dinosaurs in it. To me that's all a show needs to be worth watching.
Now if only dinosaurs could become even somewhat as popular as zombies or vampires...

heh, the thread made me think of thise age old action game, Terra Nove. the console crowd nowadays doesn't know games like that anymore.
damn was that thing fugly^^

ah still. rest in peace, looking glass studios :(
Whoops, missed that first time out :D

Notable, amongst other things, for attempting to dodge the need for troublesome SVGA drivers under DOS by using a loony-but-technically-legal 320x400 VGA resolution (in 8-bit colour), and having an utterly impenetrable control set and incomprehensible missions, despite otherwise being innovative in a number of gameplay areas (I think Tribes stole the jetpack idea from TN, for a start).

And of course it was fugly, it was of the last generation of games which didn't make use of 3D accelerators other than through proprietary plug-ins. All of them were pretty retina-searing. A hundred-and-some Pentium can't push that many polys by itself, and no matter how many it does push, they're not going to come out of your monitor ever so well after being filtered through the PCI bus and then a sub-standard-def, non-true-colour screen mode. :p

No, no... "Terra Nova". Which didn't have any dinosaurs, AFAIK/IIRC...

Personally I think it would have been way better to have had a group of people building a colony on a new planet. That way we won't have to deal with insane time travel stuff.

I like how they sent them back to just before the Cretaceous?Tertiary extinction event occurred and expect them to save humanity....yea, good luck with that.

Just a question, having seen nothing but the trailers and skimmed the refutations/ensuing flamewar (I don't have the channel it's showing on, not particularly motivated to pay for a subscription to it):

What exactly is threatening mankind in the "present" such that they have to send a small team back eleventy squillion years to prevent the catastrophe? How in the name of cheeses does that work?
And if it's an event that somehow would have meant that humans would never have evolved... a/ how the blue blazes did they figure that out? b/ surely the fact that there are humans around to send back to the ... past (ahem) means that they succeeded, completely removing any sense of drama or suspense from the proceedings?

I'll take a re-run of Terminator 2 to go, thanks.

Actually they say the location of Terra Nova(It's also the name of the living space)and it's whole planet isn't the same time line as the old Earth's so things they do in that past won't effect the old universes present/past/timeline

http://drmcninja.com/archives/comic/21p38/

kind of like Dr.Mcninja's timeline system you can go to Terranova leaving timeline:1 and you'll be entering Timeline:2 what you do in TL:2 has no effect on TL:1 unless they make a time device too at some point down the line that links back to the 1st time line.
So the only question is how did they know the Time Portal work if their beacon could never be sensed or recovered(It's how they knew they had a new timeline when that happened)

Now this just came to me and have no clue if it's what they mean by one way but maybe they can recover things from the past in that timeline but the trip ages it and would clearly kill any humans or any other biological objects transported forward which would include paper and probably mess up electronics too.

Um, just going to say this...you're complaining about unrealistic scenarios in a show about ALTERNATE REALITY TIME TRAVEL.

Exactly what is threatening it now. We are killing our planet and don't seem to care or want to do anything about it. Apparently we are aware enough of it to make it the premise for TV shows but no one cares enough to actually try and stop it...

The only difference in the show is that the people come from a bit further into the future. So things like the Texas sized island of plastic in the pacific, the several degree average global temperature rise, the giant hole in the ozone etc, etc, are that much more worse.

And sending these guys back 80 million years or whatever it was (perspective: 40x longer than anything even slightly recognisable as human has been thought to exist, and about 200,000x longer than any significant industrialisation of human civilisation) is going to fix that somehow?
